To me Avi sounds like a second cello at times on this. Big compliment in my book. When it sounds like the cello is doing two notes early in the arrangement, it's Avi doing harmony with Kevin. Gorgeous. But Kirstie really shines. She tears out your heart.

👋😆💥Scott and Avi NEVER BUTT HEADS!! They have ALL had disagreements but there has ALWAYS been respect with all the members! 👉Scott even complimented Avi on his first solo EP and Avi was so touched!! Scott was visibly affected by Avi's departure! 👉 on Avi's last performance with PTX they sang SING with a lot of Avi memories on video screen and you can clearly hear Scott's voice break with emotion (he could barely finish the song) Have you seen the video of Avi announcing his leaving??? Scott and mitch are quite upset. This is the FIRST time I hear this BS rumour about them butting heads.👉 Also REACT to the Dancing On My Own video w/o Avi You can see how emotional Scott looks!! It's sad or whatever when "so called" Pentaholics still tend to spread "BULL 💩" rumours about the group!!!

In one of the behind the scenes type videos Avi looks so tired he was saying then how he was missing his family etc. I do think Avi thought he would be with them forever. I read somewhere that the spilt was amicable until the PTX lawyers got involved.

I had read that BS also and didn't believe a word of it because of all the things you cited in your post. The members of the group had too much respect for each other and were too professional to sink to that level. It comes from people who like to make trouble. Shame on them!!!

My understanding of Avi's story is that it truly was his need for more quiet time to regenerate and be in nature, plus family concerns with his mother's recurring cancer scare that basically forced Avi to withdraw from Pentatonix. As far as I've heard, it had nothing to do with other members of the group or any artistic differences. However, once Avi decided that he had to leave, then the LAWYERS got involved, and that's when thigs went downhill. Keep in mind they were all still so young, and I'm sure the prospect of Pentatonix continuing without Avi was pretty daunting, plus Avi himself would have been uncertain about what was next for him. Add scrapping lawyers to that mix and I'm sure things got prickly. I just hope that time and mutual success heal whatever rifts were created for whatever reasons. They are all such talented and sterling human beings.

Thank you foor telling that, it's exactly what I think. The music industry is merciless and cruel. I really hope they'll get over it. At least we know Avi & Kevin stay in touch and are still close friends.

@@SolennBreizh Yes, I hope they are able to build on that connection some day. I suspect (with absolutely NO evidence to back up my theory) that the Trio had a proprietary feeling about the group, since it was built on their initial connection and many years of collaboration. I may have felt the same if I were 20-something and in the same situation. This is all just speculation, of course. As you say, the music industry is merciless.

I love that they can slap us with the most timid, quiet and straight forward moments, and not just the impressively embellished and high/low notes. The fact that they are so masterful with negative space and silence is as impressive as their incredibly talented big and dramatic moments. (I think it might be even more impressive!) Oh, and I can for sure see Scott and Avi headbutting a bit. They said that the most actual arguments in the band (in some old interview) would be between Scott and Avi. Considering both of them took a huge role in the arranging of the songs and have strong creative ideas and personalities, that wouldn't surprise me one bit. Not in a huge drama way I wouldn't think, but they are smart enough to not talk about things if it was.

Undoubtedly. But is it also the videographer noticing those moments in the song and putting the camera on them at those points? Bit of both maybe? I guess I have to listen again to the songs on the album itself to know. Fact is they always surround themselves with the best people - arranger, wardrobe, makeup, choreographer etc. to get the best out of those songs and videos. And it works so at the end I'm just happy with that.

I think it is sad when people feel the need to inject extra drama into what was probably the most traumatic moment for all of them. I know they all have deep respect for each other's talents, because there is video after video of them stating such. Scott wrote "Light in the Hallway" in honor of a new nephew, and insisted that Avi take the lead in it. I am sure there were sticky business issues, but I feel that there were few, if any, personal ones. They have all gone on to great careers and I wish we could let it rest. This song is beautifully performed. We love and miss Avi, bur he is only a click away, and Matt is bringing his own flavor to the group. Imagine how hard it was for him to step into such huge shoes. When Kevin starts plucking the cello and then Avi's deep bass comes and it sounds like the standing Bass it's just so beautiful. Then Kirstin opens her mouth and everything just sounds gorgeous. I love that they do the Kirstin and then Avi leads and didn't go with the usual which people thought was probably going to be Mitch. But the crowning glory is the cello after the rounds and then into the climax of the song it is awesome. Such a beautiful song. Great reaction thanks Nick 😎 This is probably my favorite PTX with Avi video

In the beginning Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin were very silly 19 year olds. Kevin, with his infectious laugh, often joined in. Avi was very focused. So focused that Kevin "got really scared" when they first met. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKS6qWqqYrKdgs0. This combination did not always go smoothly. and, as you said, Avi needs to be doing what he is doing right now. However, once someone pointed out in a comment how white-knuckled Scott was with the chair back (he's a "hand-singer," can't help himself) I have to close my eyes or I'll focus on that. From what I gather from information that has been offered. Avi's mother was diagnosed with cancer and Avi wanted to be around to help take care of her. He could not do both, be there for her and touring. I have never seen anything about him and Scott not getting along. For awhile there was a rumor that Kirstie didn't get along with Avi and had pushed him out if the group and that was why he had left. This of course was untrue. Actually Avi was the one who discovered Matt to be his replacement.

Actually, Avi had nothing to do with finding Matt. Ben Bram had done all the legwork to find about 50 bass singers to submit audition tapes. The group listened to them, narrowed it down to 5? or so, and had them fly out to LA to audition live with them. Based on that, they then chose Matt. They said they were, hands down, impressed with his incredible work ethic, personality and his voice. This has been confirmed in several interviews with the group, and with Ben Bram.

I heard a rumour that there was drama between Avi and Kirsten and Avi made the others choose between them (as if Scott and Mitch would ever vote Kirsten out), though that is not the official version from the band. The guys compliment Kevin's cello in the beginning. Avi sounds like a standing bass. Mitch and Scott sound like violins. At least to me. I've always loved that about this song. I can't remember if you did these, but Scott and Avi are prominent together in parts of Mary Did You Know and Little Drummer Boy. Other songs also, but maybe to a lesser degree. Those are the ones off the top of my head. It's just that most of the time there is so much going on that the Scott/Avi harmonies are missed...or one of them is doing lead while the other is bass. Re-listen to some songs and now pay attention to just those two now that you're able to distinguish their voices. You'll notice how many times they're paired up. Not as often as Scott with Mitch or Kirsten for sure. But it's there. Like you, Avi is my favorite. But Scott is like a chameleon. He blends so well in all the registers and does some vocal gymnastics throughout even just a single song going high, low, and everything in between. He obviously does lead so well, but there are times when you almost can't hear him in the background because he is so good at it.

Scott has become a master at making space for others , which is why, unless he's leading, it's easy for fans of the other members to overlook him. I feel he truly understands "the greater good" - and this is integral to PTX longevity and success

A long time I was waiting for this one! 😇 And WOW Nick, you delivered!!! 😃And for me it was exactly the right time to react on that. Seem to be kind of good timing after yesterdays "He don't love you right" by Avi. And Nick, I can tell you that you are giftet with very sensitive sensory cells in your ears (I hope this is the right translation for what I want to say). The Carismatic Voice is also gifted with this ability to hear but she is more analytical. To see in real time, what the sound delivers to your emotion is priceless! One reason, why I love your reactions so much! Greetings from Germany!

I think it was always difficult for Avi & Scott to duet in a song because one or the other would usually be covering the bass notes. However, they have had brief magical moments together in Mary Did You Know, Little Drummer Boy and Carol of The Bells, also there is a section of Run To You that is just Avi, Mitch & Scott which sounds amazing! I love hearing Avi sing in a higher register to match the others in the group!

Yes! I love watching you get Avi-shook! Hello my bass buddy. 🤗 Let us all join hands in Avi's cult. And I don't believe for a second that tensions with Scott drove Avi away. Scott would *rave* about Avi, or at least his vocal talents, and Avi was going through a *lot* when he burned out and left.

The original was such a favorite of mine that I went into this the first time expecting to not like it. I was wrong. Fun little background fact: the concept of this video was a painting, so everyone was supposed to be as still as possible. And if you’ve ever seen Scott sing… EVER… you know how physically expressive he gets with his emotions. This is, of course, a super-emotional song. In the shots where you can see his hands, you’ll notice he is absolutely white-knuckling the backs of Kirstie and Kevin’s chairs. It was the only way he could stop himself from waving his arms around like he usually does.

Avi staring into the camera with those green eyes just makes the words tear right through your SOUL. Also poor Kirstie had a horrible eye infection during this but somehow it added to the tragedy in her expression.

This song just stomps on your heart and smashes that sucker flat, doesn't it? *offers a hug* Scott and Avi together = the first major section of Mary Did You Know? I'm sure you've done that, haven't you? It's followed by Kirstin + Mitch.

That’s one of my favorites too. I’m sooo glad you reacted to it. It’s one of the few I can remember where Kirsten has the lead, and she deserved so many more. And Kevin with the cello! And Avi! Avi and Scott sound so very good together, don’t they? They had a short duet in Mary Did You Know, too, and I always love hearing that.

I love this one! Again, your reaction was fantastic. The part where Mitch, then Scott harmonize with the cello.. Thats where the "epicness" starts. And slowly builds until Kevin melts your soul with his last line.
