Just a side note. A member from Floor's original band After Forever is one of the founding members of Epica. Also Floor and Simone are very close friends.

Hah, Floor is a dramatic soprano -- in opera, they're the ones whose voices are designed to carry over a full orchestra. So no wonder technical difficulties couldn't hinder her that much. :D

There is another ReVamp song that features Devin Townsend. It is called Nuerosthania. Obviously it was never done live, but there are a couple lyric videos. Floor went through a burnout during her time with ReVamp. She was out for about a year. Her other band After Forever had broken up and she lost some music and then she started ReVamp. It was after she came back from that that Nightwish contacted her to fill in for Anette.

The Bloodstock 2014 version of Here's my Hell is much better, She does the growling parts too. This was Epica's 10th anniversary concert. Simone Simmons is Floor's bff, and the guitarist Mark Jansen used to be in After Forever with Floor.

Is Floor not a beast? (A beautiful beast) The choir and orchestra you got a glimpse of here totaled about 70 people from Hungary. Expensive in every way. Took a year to organize. Massive logistical challenges. That show, despite Simone's pregnancy handicap, was incredible. Strongly suggesting more of it. The most complete introductory experience to this band, which I think you will enjoy very much would be the opening song, Monopoly On Truth, but with the full orchestral intro. Unleashed and Sensorium are also highly regarded, and Design Your Universe is a must, all from this show. Thank-you.

Just a little background info for you about the bands: After Forever was Floor's first band. Most of the songs were written by Floor and Mark Jansen (not family) who was the guitarist of After Forever. At some point Mark left the band because he and Floor wanted to go different musical directions. After he left, Mark formed Epica. Musically Epica sounds very similar to After Forever. A few years later After Forever disbanded and Floor started her new band Revamp. After Forever has toured with Nightwish as their support act, that's how Nightwish and Floor knew each other. Tuomas already wanted her to replace Tarja when he fired Tarja, but Floor was still with After Forever at that time. When things went wrong with Anette, Floor happened to be available since she had just recovered from a burnout. She quit Revamp a few years ago. Btw the man who screams her name at the end is Mark. And to answer your question: No, Epica does not always play with an orchestra. This was for a special occasion (to celebrate 10 year existence of Epica I think).

There are three major bands that are at the top of the Symphonic Metal Genera (Nightwish, Epica and Within Temptation). You have now reacted to two of them. The third, "Within Temptation" should be your next to listen to. The performance you want is live from their 15 year anniversary concert in Antwerp, 2012. The first song, "Iron" starts at 5-40 and would be an excellent choice. Also "Faster" at 16-37 is very good. That concert also features an orchestra live on stage with the band.

if you're checking out more floor songs, give her side project from nightwish a look--"While Love Died" by Northward is a fantastic song and HUGE departure from everything you've seen floor do thus far. Pure hard rock rather than symphonic or power metal. theyve become one of my favorite bands recently. as for epica, i'll second most everyone and say Consign to Oblivion, as well as my personal favorite The Second Stone

What a coincidence that I saw Epica for the first time when I saw Nightwish for the first time :D Epica was their opening act with Amorphis.

Simone did not began her singing career because of Nightwish, but because of After Forever, of which she was a huge fan and fanclub member. Simone and Floor became good friends during that time. Mark Jansen (not related to Floor) quit After Forever and formed Epica. Since he knew about Simone's vocal abilities he asked her to front the band as lead singer, which she still is to this day. This concert celebrates their 10 year anniversary, with Floor Jansen singing as a guest on 2 songs, one of them is "Sancta Terra" the other once being a classical piece by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi called "Stabat Mater Dolorosa". This duet is so beautiful it brings out the waterworks. Experience for yourself and please react to it. Enjoy!

Floor looked good as a blonde. She was good in ReVamp and continued to work on her craft and you see the result now with Nightwish. Two members of the Dutch Singing Goddess Club just blew you away. Simone (Epica) and Floor (Nightwish) are good friends who do duets often and are involved in other projects together outside of their bands. To get a taste of Epica (founded by Mark Jansen who was with Floor no relation in After Forever, her band before ReVamp) try Consign to Oblivion LIVE at the Zenith-Paris (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpzUqqyLiaiAi7M) you'll get a real feel for the band and its stage show without the live symphony or choir and hear Simone's angelic voice opposite Mark's growling.

She had toured with Nightwish as a support act while being part of Revamp and After Forever so it was no accident they wanted her as a "replacement". Epica is an awesome band but the performance with the symphonic orchestra was only done for their 10th anniversary. It was a 3 hour show with several guest (Like Floor) If you are intrested in hearing more from Epica. Then try the song "Chasing the dragon" from the same concert. I'm really glad that Floor is with Nightwish now. Simone & Floor are great friends, but in this performance of Sancta Terra Simone was months pregnant & had been singing for two hours already, so her microphone was mixed louder that that of Floor's. P.S. Simone has told that she began singing because of Nightwish, so without NW Epica might not exist.

The concert was just 1 time. Nightwish can't drag around the London Philarmonic with them (the orchestra in the background of Nightwish, Tuomas wrote all music on paper for the whole orchestra and choirs. They recorded it and use it now in the songs. Same with Epica!!

Poor Floor, I remember this. I was there. She belted her guts out, but it was without mic at 1 point, still reaching the audio. They let her struggle the hole song. THAN she got another. She tried to get one in the break, but there was nobody. The other songs of this concert are better with sound and has some pearls. It did not feature Floor, it was her band and she wrote a lot of the songs. She was mentally in her darkest place in this time and even had to quit, totally burned out by losing HER band After for Ever (now partly Epica) .

There's much better tracks from this concert, they figured her shit out about half the way through the second song. So, from Killing me with Silence on the audio is pretty good, and so is the set. 1st band up at noon, crowd hungover and half awake, I really hope the rest of the afternoon bands thanked Revamp for warming the crowd up so well. Check out Disdain, Trial of Monsters, or Head up High.

Not sure what went wrong with Here's my hell performance, but it was utter rubbish, which is sad, because it is up to the mixer to make it work better. I just realized, since I just watched this video minutes before I typed out this comment, that there MAY have been other factors involved, that could have ruined the technical quality of the performance. The second one though, was on point, obviously.
