I think it’s hard for people today to understand just how hated they were by the mainstream critics.

My first show of any band...June 4th 1984 in Phx Az...16yrs old...a fan for about 8 months at the time...remember Between the Wheels lazers vividly projected to the flat tiled ceiling of the Coliseum...Spirit of Radio opening the show lit the place up🤘

The GUP tour video, while incomplete, is interesting. It shows the band at their most 80s in terms of the outfits and the equipment. It was interesting to see Neil's drumkit get a huge digital refit and Geddy's Steinberger bass.

This was the second tour from Rush I saw, two nights in a row. The highlight was definitely hearing the “Fear” trilogy

If only those critics knew the massive success Rush would achieve over the next 30 years.

Yeah, it was criminal they shortened the video set list. Would loved to have Subdivisions, Body Electric, Between the Wheels, and Afterimage. The sound quality and mix are really good in this video. Easy to forget back then critics just railed them non-stop, but that just made the fans love them more. It sort of became a badge of honor at some point.

When you did the induction of Rush into the Canadian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame where Alex read his grocery list LOL Tom Cochrane introduced them. Red Rider was his band. Geese those critics were brutal!

Just a note Justin, that the three songs, YYZ, The Temples of Syrinx, and Tom Sawyer are a MEDLEY - so that’ll have to be one video. 😎

Funny how ten years in, all that success, AND THE CRITICS STILL BASHING THEM mercilessly. But, “In the End” I think we see who had their shit together and the last laugh.🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎹🎤

Hey Justin - I saw somewhere on the internet that they have an album called "Clockwork Angels"... Is that true? Maybe it might be worth checking out. 😁

So in the hierarchy of crappy camera metaphors the potato is preferable to the rutabaga. Where does the turnip fall on this list? Perhaps you could provide an indexed list of root vegetables for future reference. 😛Inquiring minds need to know. 😁

The reason why they don’t have Red Lenses is because the original video release of this tour only contained these songs, it wasn’t the entire show.

If you think tennis pics, would be funny, you should be aware that they used to play volleyball behind Le studio every night under lights after finishing recording for weeks and weeks at a time with all the techs and their friends. They were serious about it, though I’m not sure how good they really were, and yes, they wore short shorts!

My Spidey senses were correct! GUP tour! Love the album. Those critic remarks are hilarious. Hilariously ignorant! Newspaper editors are like hey you, do you know what music is? OK, great, you’re our music critic now. Go out there and write an article! Remember your a critic, so be critical!

Isn't this a Wal bass tour? lol. (I could be wrong) Also, why does a rock concert crew have someone who can make stitches? Or did they call for EMTs?

Geddy plays the Steinberger (headless, no body, black bass). It’ll be interesting to now get Presto (Wal) and GUP (Steinberger) on the same day for the next week or so. Get to really hear the difference.

@@JustinPanariello My bad - I saw the Wal in the Presto vids wasn't headless, but still thought that headless one was a Wal, not the Steinberger. I'm not a real Rush fan, so I suffer from such lack of true fan knowledge 😗😆

I was at that show in Dallas in June 84’ at the Cotton Bowl, but I don’t remember Alex falling on the stage… I was 18… guess you can guess why…LOL! I DO remember how HOT it was!! Between shows, they would spray us with fire hoses to cool us off! Be well and God bless…. From Texas!!

Geddy is, by far, the most demanding of the trio in terms of directions, sounds, production, etc. Neil, musically, was always very aligned with Geddy, and the two, far more experimental than Alex, as far as exploration. Geddy and Neil were, aligned in pushing the guitars back in their sound to let keyboards take center stage. Think back to Rush in Rio, The Boys in Brazil. Everything you need to know about Geddy and how he does things, is evidenced there.

This was my first Rush tour, and I caught one of the Cow Palace shows (I had just moved up to the Bay Area to go to college). I remember the sound being terrible, but I guess they couldn't get one of the better Bay Area venues. I just remember the whole time thinking "CRAP. I missed Signals, and I have to endure Geddy playing the sh*tty Steinberger!" 😡 Plus I wasn't a big fan of GUP at the time, but they played most of it anyways and few of the proggier songs from the past. I doubt that bad Sac Bee reviewer was a hair metal fan. More likely they were a Springteen/Mellencamp fan. But yeah, Rush reviews from California papers were usually always bad. At the times, the LA Times rock reviews section was ruled by (smug pr*ck) Robert Hilburn, and all others bowed to him.

Beyond the Realms of Death😳🤔wrong band🙄that’s Judas Priest😆😁In hindsight, at the NOLA concert in 1992, it was Mardi Gras and the idiots in the audience were tossing beads on stage and when Geddy said “Thank you, but you can stop throwing beads we have plenty now.” Not another bead flew their way🤯👌🖖👍🤘🎸🥁🎹🎤✌️
