This is a fun challenge to play on drums. The "educated feet" come into play with a "clap trap" on the left foot...the same effect used on "The Big Money". You can see it the very first 6 seconds into the video. The main part of the song the drums repeat a part forwards and backwards which is......hard to play perfectly every time. lol

Mystic Rythms was used by the NBC new program, "1986", as it's ontro & outro music. Made me watch more news.

When I saw Rush in Jacksonville for the Counterparts tour in 1994, they played "Mystic Rhythms," which was a pleasant surprise for me. I just love Neil's lyrics. Such a beautiful introspective look at life. ✌🥁

This song and the music video kicks ass. It’s so entertaining. Hell, even if Geddy dislikes the haircut, it looks cool, ngl. Also, that Alex Lifeson quaff is sick as well.

I wasn't too sure about this song when I first heard it. It reminded me of a lot of the synth-pop crap that was around back then, because of Neil's heavy use of synthesized drums. Then I saw this video and read the lyrics and it became my second favorite song on this album after "Territories".

During the 80’s it was all about making artsy videos and the record company hiring the hippest directors to make new and interesting videos to captivate MTV and the viewers. So music videos went from direct live onstage performances captured, to artsy weird conceptualized pieces. This continued in various forms (example, Tool videos) for years thereafter. That’s how it just was with evolution of music videos. They are epic musicians, not video nor film directors, so they just went with whatever direction given in hopes for publicity and record sales to keep the Rush train rolling forward for and with each album.

My RUSH history: I was 16 years old when 2112 came out and RUSH quickly became my favorite band, I still like their first two albums also. I remember seeing them at the Tower Theater in Philly in '76 for the first time with Tom Petty opening up for them before they were really popular (hint: I hated them at the time but later came to like them, I mean, I was there to see RUSH!). I saw RUSH many other times and bought every album up to Moving Pictures, then I got married and had three sons in the early 80's and just didn't have the time or the money to buy or listen to any music at home for years. I heard a few of their radio songs on the radio at work (machine shop) through the 80's and early 90's, Roll The Bones was probably the last song I remember hearing, but then stopped listening to "secular" radio around '92-'93, so pretty much didn't hear anything from them for about 15-ish years, I kind of got sentimental in my old age (62 now) and went and saw them play live for the Snakes And Arrows Tour and couldn't believe how good they still were and gave me a new appreciation for them, and that ended up being the last album of theirs I purchased and the last time I saw them live, and glad I did. I still say that RUSH was my favorite band growing up and sometimes get defensive when people make fun of them I'm glad they made it into the RnR Hall of Fame before Neil passed, and of course, I was saddened when that happened, but I no longer consider them my favorite band, just a great part of my youth. Yes, there were a few time where you pissed me off (haha) with some of your comments, mostly about Alex, and almost stopped watching your reaction videos, but you are reacquainting me to my youth and exposing me to RUSH songs I never heard. So it's all good and I thank you for that, and I will keep watching and enjoying the journey. Thank you.

Rush never got the big budgets for their videos like some other bands, but they made do. They tended to work with Canadian directors and artists who were trendy at the time. That means their videos often featured visual ideas that sometimes became dated quickly (be warned if you decide to show the video for "Time Stand Still"!) Sort of like Geddy's "raccoon" hair-do. 😄 Hey, at least he quickly got rid of the mullet.

This song is definitely cool. It's different and interesting and melodic and grabs your attention and holds onto it. And the video does the same, bringing in all different mystical images and items. Well, except for a crystal ball, which would have told them how they'd look back on those hairstyles.

I've had Tai Shan stuck in my head these past few days. Not sure how to end the constant re-playing. It's not the whole song, just two parts, "When China sang to me" and Alex's oriental scale riff... help! This is not what I wanted.

Yeah, there are a lot of Rush bandwagoners on KZbin who are just trying to court their legion of fans, but I think Justin is somebody who simply approaches Rush with an almost jaundiced eye and who isn't going to just give away his adoration without it being earned first. Rush isn't above reproach. I think some of his criticisms of their music are valid, while others are overly harsh or even completely baseless. But I appreciate his brutal candor. It's a nice change from the usual over the top praise, however deserved it might be.

@@DionysusAlS @Necromancer68 thanks. Yea unnecessarily harsh at times lol. If you go back to my first Rush reactions I wasnt into Rush because of Geddys voice but the music and musicianship was obviously great so I kept checking it out. I got a ton of recommendations from people. I was only watching live performances. Then I decided I would do their entire discography to really dig in and find the songs/albums that I like. I just finished Hold Your Fire.
