Despite being a massive Nightwish fan, I didn't really fancy listening to Sabaton, as most of their songs are written about historical events. I first heard/watched this on Boxing Day and immediately cried. This piece of music captures perfectly, the futility of war, but also manages to recreate the horror of trench warfare. This has become my favourite Christmas track ever (and that is saying something, as I am old enough to remember the classic hits in England in the early 70's. Great reaction guys. First of all: Props for catching Floor's cameo at the end. Many reactors miss it by either not watching the credits, or by not recognizing the voice. With Sabaton specifically, however, it is a good idea to watch their music videos to the very end as they like to hide little easter-eggs in there every so often. That said, almost all of Sabaton's music is centered around various historical events (predominantly military history). In a sense they use the medium of music to keep the memory of the events in question alive for future generations without picking a side. And more often than not they spark a curiosity for history in their audience - which is a good thing in my book. As a result of their choice of subject matter, Sabaton songs tend to hit fairly hard on an emotional level. This is particularly well illustrated in the two animated story videos on their channel: No Bullets Fly and Night Witches respectively. In addition to that they also have a separate channel, Sabaton History, on which they go into detail on the events their songs are about. In addition to the two aforementioned songs, I would like to add a few more recommendations: Bismarck - about the hunt for and eventual sinking of KMS Bismarck The Last Stand - about the last stand of the Swiss Guard during the sacking of Rome in 1527 Shiroyama - about the end of the era of Samurai A Ghost in the Trenches - The exploits of a certain First Nations' scout and marksman during WW1. and many, many more....
@randymarple98302 жыл бұрын
Sabaton had been working on this piece of history since 2014. They pride themselves at presenting battles accurately, without bias. It took them so long because they wanted to "get it right." Like Nightwish, everything in a Sabaton song has meaning and I think Floor singing the outro is a part of that. Thank you for listening to the very end. Many reactors haven't. I, for one, will listen to this song year round, not just at Christmas.
@TomTomson812 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is history. This happened in the same way in WW 1 and never again, because it was a thorn in the side of the commanders to see the other side not only as soldiers but as humen beings who all did not want to be there. Sabaton have also an history channel where they explain and tell about the event in their songs. Many of Floor's cover during covid-19 were filmed by Hannes and the music arrangement are also arranged by one of the guitarist in Sabaton. You should check them. For Sabaton: 40:1 in Woodstock (Poland foran 700.000) Ghost Division (same concert) - One of my favourite, the animated Night Wishes (about the russian women pilots that never were recognized for their great contribution to the war effort against Germany) and many more.

Powerful Song by Great band "Sabaton" (A sabaton or solleret is part of a knight's body armor that covers the foot.) , And Floor's voice at the end ... Now think about that Sabaton song, think about those fallen soldiers, and here is why We call Floor "The Valkyrie"... : In Germanic mythology, the Valkyries were Odin's comrades-in-arms or shield bearers. The Valkyries rode above the battlefields and took the heroes who had fallen in battle to Valhalla... I think, that Sabaton did this part just because of that (At least I hope so)...

Interesting theory, but maybe a tad too esoteric, when there is another explanation that is much simpler: Christmas is about being with your loved ones (if at all possible) and by bringing Floor in for this song, Sabaton has done exatly that: Husband and wife. Sabaton are basically the modern equivalent of the medieval bards. Their songs are for the most part all history based and telling stories of things that have happened or of individual people. They do not take sides or have any bias as they sing songs and tell the stories from all sides be it German, American, Russian or what have you. So yeah all of their music are of things that have really happened or of real people from history. And their videos are top notch as you see, they put a lot of effort and care into them and they are some of the best music videos around. Also their live performances of the songs are just as good as the videos as they put the same amount of effort into those as well when on stage.

If you want another emotional roller ride coaster from Sabaton, check out "No Bullets Fly Animated Story Video". The story is from WWII and will blow your mind as it actually happened! Also Brad, turn the subtitles on from this point forward. The lyrics in this song are pretty easy to decipher but faster tempo songs not so much. The lyrics are super important in the Sabaton realm. Great reaction Brad and Lucy. All Sabaton songs are about war history. They write songs about heroic individual soldiers, units and battles. They don't take sides, so they write about Americans, Russians, Poles, Swedes and Germans among others (their latest single "Soldier of Heaven" is about Italian Mountain fighters in WW1) They treat their subject matter VERY seriously, so serious in fact that they have a dedicated war history channel on You Tube called "Sabaton History", where they explain the events behind each song. A suggestion for your next Sabaton Reaction: "No Bullets Fly - Animated STORY Video). Remember to watch to the very end.👍👍

Sabaton is not political, their mantra is, Lest We Forget, they sing about military sacrifices throughout history of known and unknown stories. This band is right up there with Nightwish, Tool, Pink Floyd for me. They have their own history channel, Sabaton History it explains the factual history behind a lot of their songs. My suggestion would be Do the official animated story video’s, No Bullets Fly and Night Witches. Their animated story videos merges Sabaton History channel with the songs so make sure you put Sabaton animated story to No Bullets Fly & Night Witches. Like you did in this video make sure you go all the way to the end lots of reactors don’t they may miss a lot! The soldier that almost gets blown up by the grenade , and goes into no man’s land is Haines the drummer of Sabaton & Floors husband. It is, in the actual spot. Incidentally, IIRC, you have the same name as Floor's huge Irish Wolfhound.

At the end at the cross that was Hannes.

No, Hannes was the one wounded by the grenade. Pär was carving 2021 in the cross

Worth reading en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_truce It wasn't just this event though, similar things happened in many places along the front and after Christmas the commanders had units moved to other areas, even so many refused to fire on their "friends" or to deliberately aim off and were field executed together with some shell-shocked and mentally destroyed troops. The whole mess is not happy reading.
