I don’t know if anyone else mentioned this, but, those tears she shed during the filming of the video were absolutely real, not done as an effect. It was due to some of the lines of the lyrics, that suddenly made her recall some very personal and painful memories of her own. And so she cried right on camera.

The tears were about her mom who died 5 years earlier. The lyric about mama triggered the tears.

Prince wrote this song in 1984. Sinead O’Connor did this cover version in 1990. It went to no.1 in the UK charts and no.1 in 18 other countries. She tweaked the script slightly to make it a female version. The part she had tears in (All the flowers you planted, Mama, in the backyard) was thinking about her mum, who died in a car crash three weeks before. She had a very difficult life with her mum, and wanted to forgive her, but it was too late. All the other lyrics of this song (written by Prince) wasn’t about her life. She chose this song because she loved it herself.

Her first album was The Lion and the Cobra, and every track is gorgeous. She was so young -around 20 - but wrote everything. Amazing. This track came out on her second record a couple years later. She got cancelled not much later for ripping a picture of the Pope in half on live TV to protest the Catholic Church turning a blind eye to child abuse. She turned out to be very right years later, but the damage was done in the US. She has continued to explore musical styles and actually improve that gorgeous voice this whole time. Huge body of work. I saw her perform in Feb 2020, and it was powerful. I have never seen an audience so in awe of a performer. And rightly so. There’s a lot for you to check out if you want to continue with her. Thanks for your lovely reaction!

Just in case anyone is under the impression that Sinéad sang this about a romantic breakup, nothing could be further from the truth. As she sang the song she was thinking of her own mother, Marie, who mentally and physically abused Sinéad as a child. Sometimes she would make Sinéad sleep in the backyard. When Sinéad sang the part about flowers in the backyard, she was thinking of her mother at that point and really did cry, as can clearly be seen in the video. Her mother was killed in a car crash in 1985 so things were left unsaid. So the mama in the song was the mother. Sinéad also sang in Irish Gaelic and this influenced her style of singing. I come from the same town as Sinéad altho' I am older. I will now wish her well on her journey in Irish. Suaimhneas síorraidhe a Shinéaid. Beidh tú i n-ár gcroidhe go deo na ndeor. Ní bheidh do leithéid ann aríst. Ba fhíor Gheadheal thú. Go codladh tú go sámh a Shinéaid. 😢🇮🇪

The song was written by Prince, but he did not write it for Sinead. He performed the song himself, and turned her down when she asked if she could do the song. She did it anyway! He was angry with her when he found out. But they did make up. Sinead's mother passed away two weeks before she recorded the song, and she was thinking of her mother while singing. Please react to her "Three Babies".

I don't think the word fragile ever suited, Sinead. She was a profoundly strong woman or she wouldn't have made it as long as she did carrying the burden of her life. What you see is sorrow and suffering, please don't mistake those for weakness or fragility.

Huge Sinead fan here. She’s been making and releasing music since 1986. Her first album, The Lion & The Cobra, was a platinum-selling and multi Grammy nominated album. Her albums have won multiple accolades even after her 2nd album which this song is from. Side note: Prince did not write this for Sinead. Prince wrote the song and “gave” it to a group called The Family and it didn’t do much chart-wise. Few years later, Sinead revamped the song and made it her own. Incredible singer and incredible songwriter in her own right. She has also collaborated with many many artists as she is a highly coveted singer to work with. She is highly diverse as well, every album is completely different and she can sing practically every genre: pop, rock, reggae, blues, jazz standards, traditional Irish music, list goes on. I would recommend the following songs for you to listen to or react to: Troy, Last Day of Our Acquaintance, Three Babies, Black Boys on Mopeds, Fire on Babylon, Thank You For Hearing Me, Jealous, No Man’s Woman… so many great songs. Thanks for your reaction. :)

Thank you very much 'witchestomotheryou' for your comment and information - much appreciated. I won't be reacting to any of those as I have my own playlist and they are set plus I give my time for free, which is a lot, so people can watch for free. However, people read the comments so should they want to seek out further material they can read it here. When I show things it's for people to then do their own homework should they wish to seek further material of the artist. Many thanks and have a great Thursday/weekend.

@@psycheinc-theSLC Really? I was under the impression that You Tubers got paid based on number of subscribers and their views and didn't do it for free. Most successful You Tubers grow their channels by showing what their subscribers ask for. They aren't doing it for free.
@psycheinc-theSLC
@psycheinc-theSLC Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question Ed - assumption is what is wrong so I will explain. 1. Subscribing to a channel does not pay a channel otherwise in theory you would have to pay to view when you don't, you get content for free. 2. Subscribing only notifies people when videos are uploaded. 3. Channels have no choice but to show their Subscriber count as that is now YTs law. 4. Depending on the content of the channel is whether they make money or not. Reaction channels tend not to make money or very little money because their content is copyrighted which means they don't own the work so the money goes straight to the Artist and Record Companies which is correct. Hence some channels get slapped with Copyright strikes which is serious, for using content that was not granted by the record companies. There are also MANY marketing people who have multiple fake accounts and use other peoples profile pictures to pretend to be subscribers so they get you to play what they ask for which helps the marketing of the act for the Record Companies and the Artist and earns them a lot of money. It also earns them the Marketeer money/bonuses. 4. The channels that make their own content eg. DIY, Makeovers, chats, vlogs etc THAT is where the big bucks comes in. That is simply because Brands will reach out and sponsor their videos. If you look at some of these channel it will say 'includes promotion'. Sponsors rarely sponsor Reaction channels because those channels have to rely on Patreon, Donations and selling their own merchandise because they make no/hardly any money because of the copyrighted content. So when a Sponsor sees that they know they are not going to sponsor that channel as the channel is already begging for money from their subscribers and if the channel has to do that, then the Sponsors has little chance of getting money out of a subsctiber too. 5. IF Copyright were dropped from the reaction channels, then the money would go to the subscriber and that happens on some music content that tends to be very old or that no one cares for. Also I've had a couple like that and I have to gain a 1000k views to that song before making £1 pound. Yes you read correctly, one pound per one thousand views. Some big channel have deals with record companies which drop the copyright so the channel gets paid but they are few and far between. 6. Every Channel ask for Subscribers as it grows the channel BUT it is more favourable to as I've mentioned above for channels that make their own content. Also when you get to 100K subs you get a Plaque which is a major goal too. Also viewers just jump on the wagon because if they see a big subscriber count its not necessarily because a channel is good but because of the subdcribers fear of missing out. 6.VIEWER count is actually equally important if not more important than suscribers as it's the HITS (Views) to the account which is gold. Some people have 500k subscribers yet only get 2k views which is poor. Yet some channels have 750 subscribers and may get 2k views which is amazing. 7. I run my channel my way as it's my time, my effort and people like you watch for free, the only effort you make is by scrolling with your finger. Making one video can take hours and not minutes so doing it for free is a gift which not many people want to do as it requires giving up your time. Some channels offer suggestions but in truth they hardly get played as there are 1000s of you and 1/2 people working on the channel and I will not offer sonething I cannot fulfill. If 1k people asked for the same song and in research it has done well recently elsewhere then it is considered. As said my time and effort also needs to be paid for and people subscribe because I do my own thing and they like it. I am not here to serve, but if people like what I serve then that's great. If not that's OK too as there's plenty of choice out there which is wonderful. Variet is the Spice Of Life! I also mention subscribing at the end of my videos rather than 90% of channels which ask upfront so you see I'm not desperate. I want people to like what they hear because they just do without pressure. I don't have Patreon as this is used by channels to make money for their channel as they charge for requests and even to converse with subscribers (which I actually do for free and have done since I started my channel), which is right for the channel (Patreon) to do as it is one's time and effort so it should be paid for as they need to earn a living too. On a side note one channel, years ago made their first video about buying and renovating their 🏠 house basically for themselves to record their own journey. They uploaded it for 'fun' and to date its had sonething like 10m plus VIEWS. They've made around £46k on that. Now THEY get sponsored and big 💰 money. Hope this explanation helps. I've been in tge business almost 4 decades -it's tough but worth it. Stay blessed and thanks again. Apologies for spelling mistakes. I've written it in my phone without my glasses!

@Out Of Darkness I agree with your comment but would go further to say that I think 'everyone' - including ourselves are or have been broken in some way or another, not just Stars. There are lots of 'ordinary' folk walking around broken to a degree and that is in the masses. The ones that go on to become stars, to me, have channelled that hurt into a wonderful 'Art' of being able to convey it through their music/artistry whatever to entertain us but to also show us that the masses are not alone and that indeed we all through some kind of madness in our lives. Also people like Adele, Amy Winehouse, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, the list is endless etc. if they hadn't gone through madness, they wouldn't have been able to establish the recognition that they received, it's because of their sadness is why they became 'great' 'Starts' ✨.

I must correct you on one thing, Prince didn't write this song for her. As a matter of fact he didn't like it when people covered his songs. He wrote it for himself and than gave the song to a band he created called The Family and imo their version of this song is the best version. The Family now goes by the name of fDeluxe and when Prince passed they redid the song in honor of him. I wish you would do a reaction to that video, fDeluxe Nothing Compares 2 U.

I don’t think she made the best deal with this song. She was very young and she started to perform again at an old age because she was bankrupt. COVID messed up her tour unfortunately. She lost her son (suicide) just 2 months ago and AGAIN life beat her up. After she was ‘boycotted’ by Hollywood/music industry because she didnt want to be their slave ( that’s why she shaved her hair, (not being a sex object)and ripped the pope’s picture one Saturday night life. Raised in catholic Ireland she knew about the sexual abuses by the church. She stood her ground and for her principals, she never picked money over morals. She and her sister were abused roughly by their mother who died when she was 18 and that’s exactly when this song was released. This song makes her think about her mother that’s why she cried. She loved her mother anyways and missed her even she wasn’t the best mom. Quote from her book: when she’d come home from school for the summer she’d pretend she’d lost her field hockey stick, because she didn’t want her mother to beat her with it. She says her mother would beat her with a carpet-sweeper pole instead and make Sinéad say “I am nothing” over and over. She and prince also had issues, she ran off from his house in the middle of the night and police found her on the highway, she claimed prince abused her or tried to harm She converted to Islam 2/3 years ago and found peace.

I wasn’t aware she ever fell into bankruptcy. How awful considering this song was billboards #1 in 1990 worldwide. She really was the first person “cancelled” after the demonstration on SNL tearing up the pope’s pic on live TV. She was right about it all. I appreciate all the info you shared in your comment. Thank you.

@@psycheinc-theSLC You want to know more about Sinead just read her book Rememberings and watch a great documentary Nothing Compares 2 You ( by the way Prince estate forbid to use this song in a movie!) I love Sinead unconditionally So many beautiful songs written by her and covered by her. You must react to Red Football, You Made Me A Thief Of Your Heart and many more

Hello my dear - There are exactly 4 songs in my life, no, five, which firstly reminds me of my teenage years, with the first, real love and which still today - regularly make me cry: This song by Sinèad O'Conner, "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" by Gary Brooker (RIP) (Prokol Harum) and that in the version with the Danish National Orchestra, "Nights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues and by Marvin Gaye "I Heartet Through The Grapevine" (possibly also "Lets going on and Whats going on"). Then I'm blubbering and can't hold myself any longer. I should be happy that someone has thought up these lyrics and the music, happy that there is someone who can perform this so wonderfully. Sinead also cries in the video, you can see the tears rolling - well, then we are already a few more who cry! Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
