When this came out, I remembered then seeing the sadness in her eyes! I didn’t know until later that she was abused by her mother and sexually abused by others! There’s a very heartbreaking interview on Dr. Phil where she says she was kicked over and over again by her mother and yet another video explains that her mother was the one who cut her hair and made her to believe she was ugly and she repeatedly kicked her in her private area to prevent her from having children! Her mother was a monster!

She's discussed it on occasions and it seemed almost as if it was an abusive relationship at times. A few years before this song came out, she and her mother were trying to resolve their relationship, and her mother died in a car accident. In mid-life I grew to truly appreciate the raw emotion she shared. Her expressiveness is a rare gift she gave to us. She DID give us a piece of her. I wish I could thank her. As I age (& know more of her history), I see a young woman who channeled her pain into one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. She was truly a beautiful person. I cry every time I hear it. -For her and for every human who ever feels this level of sadness & despair.

Hey Salvog, Just FYI, her name is pronounced, Shi-nade. The tear she shed when singing the lyrics, "All the flowers that you planted, Mama! In the back yard. All died and went away." Sinead's mother passed away a few years before, and even though they had a complicated relationship, it's her mom. The lyrics, touched some raw emotions in this recording, for sure. Brilliant song. Phenomenal performance. Sinead, had such a powerful voice, and was such an enormous talent. Thanks for this reaction. Take care.

My parents loved Sinead forever, since even way before her snl appearance. We’re a very, very, very Irish American family from South Buffalo, and my parents would always play Sinead, Van, U2, etc…as a way of teaching my little brother and I about our Irish culture and heritage. I vividly remember watching her live sessions DVD all the time when I was about 4 or 5 years old and trying to sing and dance along like her. She used her voice and status for so much good and she was such a pioneer in every way possible🤍🕊️

She took this song for her own with her incredible Irish voice. To sing with that power, beauty and softness. It didn’t work for Prince though he wrote it. No autotune at all. Beautiful soul and talent. RIP rare beautiful angel

There are a few songs and videos that I have listened to and watched over and over, Tori Amos live version of Winter, Evanescence My Immortal and Sinead O'Conner Nothing Compares 2U. I cry every time. They are all beautiful, heart breaking and so emotionally moving. RIP Sinead. You were so authentic and passionate. You are loved.

She was brilliant. She did all with her emotions. If you want to hear the heart of her voice you should do her live version of this from like 1990 i think. The vocal range is incredible and the emotions are pure and raw.

And minor detail: her voice is astoundingly unique and brilliant. And she's so beautiful.

This is may be the most authentic reaction I've ever seen. We've all felt this heartbreak. ❤ The most powerful singers show us their emotions, they don't only vocalize them. ❤

I saw her live at Meadowbrook in the summer of 1991. Her encore was a capella, and it was amazing. Total silence after for a full five seconds, then thunderous applause. Troubled soul with the voice of an angel. RIP, Ma'am.

Beautiful tribute to Sinead. Check out her singing Don't cry for me Argentina, Danny Boy, she sang a beautiful song with Van Morrison and Chieftains, lots of beautiful songs as a young woman. She was unique but kept her feet on the ground. So sad to lose such talent. Rest in peace. Ireland and USA

Sinéad's first ever gig was a few minutes from my house. Her teacher in school got her the gig. She was a national treasure here in Ireland. We love her and miss her. May she rest in peace.

I cry every single time her eyes wll up and that first tear moves slowly down her cheek. She had such a transcendent voice and was a true Celtic warrior poet. Rest now Sinéad, your battle is over and we will continue the fight in your honour

I was in high school when that song was released and peaked # 1 for 2 weeks in a row . It brings so many memories about those years of my life. My classmates and smoking with a couple of them hidden in the restrooms talking about music and singing this song. RIP Sinead O'connor.

Prince has always been my favorite artist. He was an amazing writer. Each of his songs told a personal story. But I can never see any artist singing his song. She made it her own. It was so powerful & still is. Her life was full of sorrow & turmoil but she lived it on her terms. She will live on through her music just as Prince. I hope she has found the peace she never had in this life. Sinead & Prince will never be forgotten. 💜 🎶 💟 🎼💜

I'm sure someone else might have commented this, but there are A LOT of comments so I couldn't see it. Prince only agreed to let her release this version initially if she shaved her head for the video. Sinead was never one to turn down a challenge. She put her heart and soul into this and you can both hear and see it. We've lost a wonderful soul.

Sinead said she was thinking of the recent death of her mother when she recorded this video of nothing compares to you, that is why she cried singing this song. All the flowers that you planted mama in the backyard, all died when you went away.

I spent my entire first college year of 1990 listening to this song. She sang it beautifully. Prince who wrote the song sings a different but gorgeous version too.

Nice to see people appreciating her art. She genuinely bared her soul to the world, not everyone appreciated it, and she gave no fx. IMO - The one song that cuts deeper than this one is Three Babies. (She wrote that one.)

I have loved her since her first album. I was 15. I have been listening to "Just like you said it would be" from the lion and the cobra non stop since news of her passing. I highly recommend it. Her first album was very raw and was where she established she would not just be some little pop singer. Sinead, you were loved💔💔💔

This is one of those timeless classics that will never die. Even the music video, as simple as it is, completely draws you in and you feel every lyric in her tone and on her face. RIP

I am going to save your reaction so that I can hear and see her over and over again. This song had to be made and performed by her because every human has, or will feel, this abandonment that is soul crippling. The synth and instrumentation stays quite somber and stays around a sustained note with very little motion so that the lyrics and the voice stand out with emotion. The background vocals are beautiful in its simplicity in a minor mode, never overpowering. Her lifts, her falls, her tilde’s, all hit perfectly. One thing that grabs me is her use of dynamics and inflections. You can hear when she is sad. You can hear when she is angry. You can hear her frustrations. You can hear her pleas of false hope that will never let her be. It will haunt her for the rest of her days… and this song haunts my soul. God’s speed Ms. O’Connor. Thank you for leaving us this extraordinary gift. Nothing compares to you.
