@@geraldtaylor8047 I agree wholeheartedly with your "best band" opinion. For me, picking a "best" Led Zeppelin song always ends in about a twenty song tie, followed very closely by another thirty or so...songs.

In my top 3 favorite Led Zeppelin songs ever, and I love the live version from 1973 at MSG that I was lucky enough to have attended as a teen but this recording is to me a better listening pleasure because of Jimmys solo that he did in one take!

This is the perfect track to demonstrate the power of Led Zeppelin live. Jimmy's solos when they played this live put the album version to shame. And that is really saying something considering how perfect this track is.

Jimmy said in an interview that he didn't hear Bonzo's pedal squeaking at first until it was pointed out to him, however, he was also a fan of leaving "mistakes" in a recording so the listener could feel they were in the moment with the band. They actually had this song ready for LZ II however, they bumped it for Whole Lotta Love. The band said it was the most difficult song to record on this album; according to Jimmy, they were getting a bit self-critical at the time. The opening riff comes from The Yardbirds' song New York City Blues. Jimmy wasn't in The Yardbirds yet when it came out, but his good friend Jeff Beck was.

Zep's first album is revered to this day for its hypnotic spine tingling audio resonance. I'd describe its sound quality as...charged, immediate, bright, crackling with boundless energy & intensity. Hard to believe this was recorded in the late '60s. As for the magnificent driving finale, How Many More Times, just one suggestion, be generous with the volume.
