I'm pretty sure this episode was explicitly a "the show is ending, let's have a little farewell to all the secondary characters before go head into the finale" thing.

Shaxs subplot was him dealing with his own trauma from the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor. Hence the other him taunting him about his 'victims', it's part of him feeling guilt for killing so many people even if his conscious mind feels justified in having done so because of the circumstances. And because it's Lower Decks, he deals with it via punching his PTSD in the face.

T'ana a little freaky. She's always been my favorite (not necessarily most liked, but favorite if you get what I mean) and this just cements it. Westlake's dynamic with her was perfect, too. It was a really good episode, and the only takeaway imo from the fact that there is only two episodes left is that the show clearly deserved at least two more seasons to get to tell all of it's stories.

11:40 I'd like to point out that this is the first time in FIVE YEARS that Migleemo suggested therapy for Shaxs! How has he not been fired??

In reality Ben 10's watch is meant to be a translation body morph gadget to turn the user into whatever species they select. But the 10 year old used it as a superhero device. Instead of having the doctor alter your appearance and dna, just click the watch and it makes you an alien

I just don't get why Paramount cancelled this show. Compared to an episode of SNW or Discovery etc. it has to be way more cost effective to keep an animated show going over one of the expensive as hell live action shows. Now if the numbers for the show are bad enough to cancel it, sure. But I somehow doubt Lower Decks had that poor of a result audience wise. Plus I mean, they canned Prodigy as well and S2 of that show might have been the best season of Star Trek ever. And that's saying a lot coming from a DS9 die hard and fan of all the other shows to boot. I'd say S2 of Prodigy was up there with S3/4 of Babylon 5 as some of the best sci-fi ever made to be honest. Maybe not as good as S2 and on of SG-1 but that's just my Stargate dreams crying out for a new show :(

Lower Decks was part of a five year deal with Kurtzmann's production company. Renewing that deal would mean new contracts for everybody involved and a lot more money, and Paramount's broke right now.

@@seamusburke639 Yeah but wouldn't it still make more sense money wise to keep another year or two of LD compared to SNW etc.? Not that I'm advocating cancelling SNW or anything. But that show costs a pretty penny. And while I wouldn't say Paramount is broke per se, they are having some issues, like most studios.

@@LordLOC I think Paramount also just wants to cap their current STAR TREK series around 50 episodes to maintain quality control. Five years is a long time in TV. The cast and showrunners are probably ready to move onto other projects even if they didn't get offered more money.

@@seamusburke639 They also seem to want to move in yet another direction (aka ANOTHER prequel Trek movie, which is such a huge mistake, ugh) creatively. But I feel like SNW is their cash cow now, even though again LD (and Prodigy) I would assume would be much cheaper to produce.
@seamusburke639Ай бұрын
@@LordLOC Prodigy totally got screwed from the business side. It should have always been on Netflix because that's where the audience was. But Prodigy still accomplished a lot, especially compared to other kids shows. Also it was ultimately only 10 away from the 50 episode limit I mentioned.

Actually, it's the first time I didn't like an episode enough. And not because of lower deckers at all, I just don't think the story was fun.

Yeah I was OK with it but I kind of wanted there to be an emotional weight for the upper Deckers akin to the lower deck episode of TNG. Like give them a moment to be hurt or really deal dealing with something intense. Something on the same level as the TNG episode
