Season 4 episodes are usually so heavy that I've always really appreciated that this one goes back to a more simple "monster of the week" style. It's a little bit of a fluff episode to be sure, but it's a welcome break from the really emotional stuff that goes on the rest of the time.

Fun fact related to the episode starting with Scrooge: Patrick Stewart played Ebeneezer Scrooge in a made-for-tv adaption of "A Christmas Carol" in 1999. It's probably my favorite movie adaption of the story, mainly because of Stewart. He had just finished playing some one-man-show productions of it in London and Broadway before filming it.

i think Ardra could have given Picard a few more headaches if they had brought her back later on...interesting juxtaposition of a fully realized female character from the future using a woman guile's and atraction factor to faceoff against an oposite, a fully realized male counterpart, in a game of cunning and deceit....wonder if Katrina admires or looks down on Ardra's character....cause even dough she was not from militar or starfleet background...she did show all the cleverness and knowledge to give the Enterprise crew a run for their money.

One thing I like about this episode is how it basically turns on Ardra shooting herself in the foot, which gives Picard his window to take advantage. If she’d said “Oh, you’ve been thinking I’m supernatural all this time? How silly, I’m just a sufficiently advanced alien with a long lifespan who made a long-term investment” then Picard would have had a lot less cause for suspicion- after all plenty of such beings exist in the Star Trek universe- and less ground to act even if he was suspicious anyway. Likewise if she hadn’t tried to seize the Enterprise as well he’d have had no ground to object to a society deciding to start paying taxes to whoever it wanted to pay them to. But she had to try and pretend to be the actual devil, and so gave Picard all the rope he needed to hang her. Under the lighthearted tone of the episode, “Evil ultimately shoots itself in the foot” is a notable message of the episode, fitting Star Trek’s pattern of message stories.
