Actually I believe that Celsius was only introduced officially to the UK in the 1960's and Frostpunk takes place in the 1800's they would have used Fahrenheit

So, the poem he recited was from Tennyson's In Memoriam A.H.H. He was referencing the idea of evolution to question what it meant that the noblest creatures faced extinction while those creatures which survived were the ugliest and cruelest. His takeaway was that Nature and God were opposed forces and that the world naturally bred monsters, whether they were animals or predatory men.

I suspect that the point here is to present the situation of people vs. a difficult natural situation. Where, especially in a 19th century setting, there is no chance of overcoming the frost with human hands and the only thing is the hope that it will end on its own terms. (Read: lack of an enemy that can be defeated by direct fight.) And here comes the issue that there is no longer the captain who rules everything and who died at the beginning of the game. Now you are the main chairman of the parliament/president who has to balance between factions with the additional problem that despite the frost, human nature has come to the fore and the fact that brutality is taking place on the streets where not a few hundred people live, but several thousand. Stupendium made a story were the captain lost his position and was exiled, but by a wim of fate he returned to now ruins of the city and his old apartament.

Long story short- no matter what, WE as humans are our own worst enemy. If we can't find something tangible to unite against, we'll turn on one another to feel like we have ANY sort of control over the situation.

it's actually the steward the leaders right hand man as the leader(the player) doesn't have a model also the game is 30 years in the future after the leader has died and now it's a faction war

​@@stiem6808in my narrative my character is the same leader from my first song. There are many cities in frostpunk and I chose to deviate slightly from the narrative of the 2nd game to be able to directly follow on from my first song using the same character. :)
