Born and raised Newfoundlander here, but currently living in Toronto and most recently returned from living in New York City for the last 5 years. You can imagine that my view of humanity changed from living in NYC because there is none there. When I moved back to Canada in Sept of 2022, I went back to Newfoundland and visited my fav Aunt and Uncle's house. When we were there, someone knocked on the door and this stranger showed up in the kitchen and asked to use their phone as his had died. His car also died so he wanted to call a friend to come and get him. When his friend showed up, he was invited in and they both ended up staying for supper. Two complete strangers and I was sitting there saying to myself "Wow - you would never see this in NYC and certainly not in this day and age. I have lived away from home so long, I forgot how good people are, including my Aunt and Uncle. It was so nice to be reminded that humanity still thrives - in Canada.

Maritime folks are the best people anywhere. I remember my parents had plans for a month in the Maritimes. They had a friend to visit, planning to spend a weekend, and tour around everywhere on an itinerary. They ended up staying two weeks, with everyone telling them to stay another day or two.... Again and again. Everyone had so much fun.

Agreed! I've lived in Canada all my life; born in Alberta and moved to Montreal when I was 11 (I'm 63 now). Folks in Newfoundland are some of the most welcoming I've ever met. Back when I was 18, I went on a 3-week sales training trip to farm country in NL in chilly rainy November to learn how to sell encyclopedias door-to-door. I managed to sell 3 sets (at $600 a pop back then with a $200 commission!), but what I remember most about that trip was that I was invited into into EVERY house where I knocked, had some of the best steak dinners I've ever tasted, and was even offered to have my wet clothes dried on one particularly nasty evening. ❤ And times haven't changed people all that much. The janitor in my apartment building and I regularly exchange services. He comes by twice a day to take care of my cats when I travel or go camping, and I care for his fish & plants when he does. While I give him a bit of cash for his time, he loves to cook and often texts me to let me know he'll be coming by with a full meal as a thank-you for mine.

@@BetteLouWhoJust a note. Because Newfoundland and Labrador did not join Canada until 1949 we are not part of the Maritime Provinces. Those are Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. To include Newfoundland and Labrador the term used is The Atlantic Provinces. This includes all four Atlantic Provinces . 😊

Each and every time Mert, or any other reactor, features a video about some aspect of Canada, I end up with tears of joy and pride streaking down my face and reflect on the eighty plus years I have had the privilege of calling Canada my home. Although I have lived in the UK, USA and Caribbean, I came back to Canada each time, grateful that I could. Canada, from its beginnings, has been a unique experiment, where the beauty of the country is reflected in the decency and caring of its people. We may have our faults, but, at least we are constantly trying to correct them and make our country ever better. My only regret is, I won't have another eighty years to experience where Canada goes from here. Chimo

Then I moved to Toronto in the next province, I was so in love with T O, the museums, the beaches, the restaurants, the ethnicity, the Chinatown, all the wonderful concerts Classical & Rock, all the theater plays in French & English, Toronto is my favorite city, but then my favorite pool has to be Georgian Bay, the water so cristal clear, I swam in it naked as often as possible, I lived in Ontario for 20yrs, I've been back in Québec since 2006, and not a week goes by that I don't miss it.😢

It's not often that a Montrealer (let alone French Canadian) confesses to loving Toronto! };-D I would argue that Toronto has gotten even better since 2006 (though more expensive) so you should come visit again. In its own way I find Toronto to also be very friendly, not in the same way as Newfoundland or PEI, but in a big urban busy place kind of way. I still have interactions whether on busy Spadina walking towards Kensington Market or playing sports at Downsview Park or going to a game at BMO Field with great people with big smiles.

I believe there's various tourist attractions, such as waterfalls, swinging bridges, hot springs, Ski Resorts all around. Many many vineyards. Places like Kelowna, Vernon and the vineyards are often used as filming locations for hollywood movies. Not the mention the lore about the Lake in regards to the ogopogo monsters. I live in Southern Ontario, but my family, originally from Dorset, can trace its lineage to the late 1690s in Newfoundland. When some friends of mine were travelling in Newfoundland, they planned on staying in B&Bs, but did not plan on a convention in Clarenville, where they arrived late at night. So, they drove down the road to see if they could see a B&B anywhere and didn't find one. They stopped to ask an elderly man if he knew where there was one. "No", he said, "but you can stay at my place. My wife is just making dinner now." They went there, met his lovely wife, had dinner and then breakfast the next morning. Typical of Newfoundland hospitality. My friends offered to pay what they would have at a B&B, but the couple wouldn't hear of it.

I love my country of Canada & am quite proud of it (& this video you just watched & a number of others have made me prouder still.) We have a lot of problems in Canada that we still need to work out (& there will ALWAYS be problems to work out of one sort or another) BUT we DO try to get them worked out which makes a difference. The internet is BOTH a problem & a saviour in this as well - when Canadians start to copy & follow the (negative) behaviours found in some other countries & get supported (by these others) in FOLLOWING this bad behaviour, it makes our country WORSE. When we use the internet to talk to each other (other Canadians) about some of our issues & by-pass certain politicians & their propaganda that try to separate us (for THEIR own aspirations - or those of their party), the internet can be very good. The internet can also be good to REMIND US - that no matter what problems we DO have, we are STILL a very great country, with LOTS of GREAT resources (incl. our people) & it is a country that we SHOULD be proud of & that is WORTH working at to always try to do better. It is also a privilege to share knowledge of our country with others, such as interested individuals like yourself, Mert. Thank-you for your interest, when you could have chosen so many other countries or things to react to.

Lac St-Jean, north of Quebec City in the Saguenay region, is spectacular. 1003 km2 with a 256 km biking trail around it. Very, very french though. I'm sure touristy places have some people who can get buy in english, but nowhere near Montreal.

We have over 300 lakes in the Greater Sudbury area alone, the most of any municipality in Canada, and yes I grew up there, lucky to have such beautiful places to swim in my childhood, I live in Toronto now but still return several times a year to hike the north.

Sudbury is the largest municipality in Ontario I believe. Or one of. Despite being a small city, the boundaries encompass 6x more land than Toronto.

You should feel pride for Being Scottish and should love Canada and should visit sometime . I also love how we have Scottish roots in our military and In WW1 and WW2 there would be a Bagpiper that would play to raise the moral of the Soldiers in the Trenches and would also play the Bagpipes to Signal the The Canadian Soldiers to advance. 🇨🇦🤝🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧🪖🫡 🍁🌹☘️. 6:09 Love the Story of what Happened in Gander, Newfoundland during 9/11 when planes landed there due to US airspace being closed because of the 9/11 attacks. If you don’t know about it watch a Video on KZbin called Operation yellow Ribbon you won’t regret it. This Story makes me proud to be Canadian and Proud of what the Locals in Gander did that day of Darkness showing that in tragedy and there is also a side that shows best of Humanity and being emphatic and kind to others. 🇨🇦❤

I don’t think I could be any prouder to be a Canadian! I would bust right open 😊. Manitoba alone has thousands of lakes. Hard work to pick just one. Lake Winnipeg is beautiful (also 15th largest in the world). Whiteshell Provincial Park has many beautiful lakes, as does Riding Mountain National Park. And so many others.

Mert, we have a lot of animosity in Canada right now. Most are very unhappy with our Government and PM. Most are struggling right now because of high prices on food and shelter. The price of real estate is on the moon. Your video does not show the way Canadians are acting right now. In my 74 years I have never seen so many Canadians unhappy. I hope we return to the people we see in this video and soon. The place I like to visit and swim is not on a lake but a river. It's the Mississippi river, the Canadian one. It's NE of Toronto in a small town of Ardoch, and have been camping there most all of my life. Now that my health is failing, I haven't traveled there for a few years and I miss it.

We are Canadian. We shall overcome, yet again, as we always do. We know that when you're up to your arse in alligators it's too late to drain the swamp. Alligator steak will just have to be on the menu. 🙂

Our heroes are always ordinary people doing extraordinary things. We don't pretend they were "born different", we acknowledge that they rose above the rest of us by their own ability. And we don't admire lawlessness, like Americans do, and we don't admire ruthlessness, like many other do. We admire strength of purpose and effectiveness, and especially when it is also kind.

Thanks so much for this awesome video about my awesome home 😃I am from the east coast, Nova Scotia, Canada's ocean playground. We have the highest tides in the world and beautiful, tropical-looking white sand beaches. My country IS amazing! We are generally happy, polite, empathetic, and accepting of others. Of course we are not perfect, but I've never wished to live anywhere else 🥰

"Brimstone Head" in Joe Batts Arm on Fogo Island, is one of the corners of Flat Earth, as designated by the Flat Earth Society. Fogo Island lies on the northeast coast of the island of Newfoundland, about 2.25 hours drive north of Gander (including a 50-minute ferry ride). This scenic town is also home to one of the world's most iconic hotels, the Fogo Island Inn (the building built partially on stilts visible in the video's section about Flat Earth). Accommodations at the hotel are quite pricy (at about $3,000.00 Canadian Dollars a night with a 3-night minumum stay), but the guests are well pampered with all-inclusive gourmet foods, island tours by locals, spectacular views including (in season, of course) large humpback whale populations which come to feed on caplin, and up close viewing of icebergs, as the island sits in the Iceberg Alley corridor which brings Greenland's icebergs to the North Atlantic!

The very fact that there's over 2 million lakes in Canada indicates that the overwhelming majority of them have never been visited by humans and due to the density of the forest surrounding many of the most of them can never be reached by humans unless they come in by floatplane ; just think of the potential for new forms of fish and plants and aquatic Life in all these. The potential new species of insects of frogs or turtles or who knows what else.

Agreed. I worked as an exploration geologist in the Canadian Shield in the 70's and 80's. Even after getting flown in miles from the nearest road, some of the most beautiful lakes I've seen (or swam in) are another 5 miles or more of navigating through the bush. Most are nameless, so the maps we filed with the gov't show what we unofficially named them.
