Your opening remarks about the North American ignorance of ABBA made me like the video. I discovered the group (I'm 60) by purchasing a single in 1977 - Knowing Me, Knowing You - and I never, ever understood my fellow Americans' description of the group as "disco" or "bubblegum." Just go listen to Knowing Me, Knowing You and ask me if I bought it because it was disco. My real ABBA moment, though, was early 1978 when listening to the radio late one cold winter night. On came The Name of the Game and it fascinated me so much, I stayed up for hours until they played it again. Go listen to that one as well and show me the disco. The next morning I went and bought all of their albums and have never looked back. What I can tell you is that ABBA was the vehicle into my life long love of music. Whatever it was they did specifically with harmonies and chords zapped me to the bone, and permanently. As a teacher, I shared their music and we analyzed some of their songs. To have listened to them in "real time" go from Waterloo to The Visitors was quite a trip. And now, I admit to being so moved by I Still Have Faith in You and its video that I can't watch it without welling up. It was a 40 year wait - and those 4 people acknowledged it finally in both these songs. I Still Have Faith is about themselves: "We stand at the summit, humble and grateful to have survived." Don't Shut Me Down is directed at their audience. "I'm not the one you knew, I'm now and then combined." You might enjoy revisiting this band's entire catalog (not just Gold) - their transformation was notable and continues with this new release. (Diehards will recognize that Don't Shut Me Down's verse and beat are absolutely similar to that mythical unreleased track, Just Like That.)

I agree, great song and recording production. This has always been one of ABBA's trademarks from their beginning, making great sounding records. Always loved and appreciated this about them. So wonderful to hear the quality professional singing voices of Frida and Agnetha again ( No Autotune ! ) Benny's keyboard wizardry, and Bjorn's lyric writing. I have been an avid fan since hooked on their hit SOS in 1975, I was 13. In the band's heyday, Abbamania all over the world, I felt I was born in the wrong country because here in America they were considered just another top 40 group at best. It wasn't cool to profess your love for ABBA here in the US. Even though, I had all their albums, t-shirt, a couple of posters on my bedroom wall. I would collect any photos and journalism written about them. They were new, different, original, and not either British or American but Swedes, ?, wow, that just added to the whole mystique. Not to mention pioneers in music videos ( 8 years ahead of MTV). Besides the Beatles, Benny and Bjorn always said their inspirations and influence came from The Beach Boys music. One of my biggest regrets in life is not seeing them in concert in 1979, North American Tour.

The big global news of this 21st century for the music world is the return of the legendary Swedish pop group ABBA to the recording studios after more than 35 years (the last was "The day before you came") and the edition of his new songs after 39 years (the last was "Under attack") and a new album after almost 40 years (the last was "The Visitors") Beyond that these three data are for the Guines Book of records (I believe that No Group or Singer or Artist can come close to these incredible brands), the most remarkable thing is How they returned, with what level of quality And I must say that ABBA overcame all fears, doubts and expectations Their return is shocking and his quality is still valid "Don't shut me down" it's another surprise from ABBA A pop song was expected, but there were reservations and fears for what it could be (and here I include doubts to the voices of the girls due to their age) And we find a magnificent work The beginning is with Agnetha's voice attacking with the pleasant company of the piano. What Agnetha does in that introduction is anthology, exquisite modulating and using different nuances with her mature voice. Until Benny's signature piano glint (nod to the mega hit "Dancing Queen") and ABBA's typical pop song is with us, with the fans, because the lyrics speak to us. and Agnetha assumes that decoding of almost four decades and gives us her beautiful voice as the strings grow and lead to a memorable chorus with Frida reliving the historic third voice of ABBA But it doesn't end there, the second part adds hooks and a xylophone is added to the bells (a nod to the marimba in "Mamma Mía"), and the pre-chorus has more force with Agnetha and Frida and the violins anticipate the elevation to a chorus triumphant final anthology reminiscent of his greatest hits And it ends with a soft and sweet Agnetha voice and piano melody (nod to "Thank you for the music") Thank for your great reaction and for Your respect to ABBA music now wey waiting for the new album and see in next ABBA vídeo GOD bless You

Hi bro, love to see and realize your appreciation of ABBA and loving your honest reaction. To us ABBA's super fans, ABBA is so special coz they explore all types of musical pops and ballads like none other. Whatever song they composes have that distinct ABBA unique sound, unequivalent and unrivalled. ABBA consists of members Agnetha (pronounced as Aneatha), Benny, Bjorn (pronounced as Bi-yorn) and Anni-Frid (fondly known as Frida). Benny and Bjorn are responsible for composing and lyrical writings, Agnetha (a soprano) and Frida (a mezzo-soprano) are the voices, while Benny and Bjorn also lend up their backing vocals in many tracks. The beautiful and exquisite ABBA songs are often inter-woven with beautiful lyrics, simple, catchy and relatable to common life. Then there's the unique musical compositions, so beautifully, intricately, exquisitely and expertly layered and composed. Rounding up the ABBA sound is the beautiful voices of Agnetha and Frida, exquisite in their own distinctive way, but yet complementary very much to each other...oohh the harmonies of both vocals are simply magical and pleasant to listen to. To top it all, to release two comeback songs like 'I Still Have Faith in You' and 'Don't Shut Me Down' after a 40 year hiatus is simply unimaginable, beautiful and magical, to say the least. To me personally, what's so beautiful about their new songs is ABBA's ability to maintain their own unique style and sound while staying current to a lot of younger and/or newer fans. And their new mellowed vocals are by no means a weakness, but rather a strength which only adds up to their powerful and heartfelt renditions of their songs. On top of all these, these 4 angels are down-to-earth and endearing souls and I simply CAN'T wait to join them in their new musical VOYAGE. Luv from Din, Malaysia.

@sharifuddinsalleh71193 жыл бұрын
Yeah buddy.. I do agree with you on the depth of ther lyrics. One of the main reasons why Abba resonates in us is because of its relatability to everyone's own personal life and experience. Truly sublime lyrics And yup, I realize that quite a number of reactors and commentators preferring Don't Shut Me Down to I Still Have Faith in You and that's okay, coz we do have preferences. But for those who appreciate I Still Have Faith in You, they are perhaps appreciating the fond, meaningful and heartfelt reflection that this song is making on their past, and Frida's voice truly touched the hearts of fans who have been following ABBA's ups and downs throughout their 10 year musical association and companionship. The media said a lot of things, some were untrue but they withstood that test. As ordinary souls, they sure have shared lots of joys and fond memories as couples, ex-couples and as friends and they are able to remain amicable friends all these years. That's beautiful to them and to us hardcore fans who have seen and followed their journey since 1974 till today.

I couldn't agree more about everything you said, except that you're wrong about the Agnetha pronunciation. I know this because I'm a swede. The correct swedish pronunciation of her name is Angneta. The first "N" is a very subtle pronunciation. I omitted the "H" because it's a silent "H".
@sharifuddinsalleh71193 жыл бұрын
Hi Anton, my bad about the pronunciation. Thanks a lot and many apologies. I am a 52 year old man with 3 kids, but I my tears welled up when I first listen to their new materials after all these years. Love ABBA so very much :)
@antonwiderberg75713 жыл бұрын
@@sharifuddinsalleh7119 No need to apologize. I'm always glad to help people with whatever it can be. Actually there are two clips here on KZbin where Agnetha pronounce her name in the correct swedish way. I suggest you check that and hear for yourself. I'm a swedish 30 year old man who turned into a huge fan one and a half year ago. Always liked ABBA before that also, but I only knew the most famous songs. One day I saw a reaction video here on KZbin, just wanted see what foreign people think about ABBA. Then I kept on watching more and more reactions. After that I took deep dive into their whole discography. First then I discovered the true art in their music, and ever since I'm stuck. It's so wonderful to hear how you experienced last thursday. I myself never thought I would get to experience this reunion. All those years from when I was a child, I always were so envious of my 62 year old father who got to experience ABBA from 1971 and even before that when all the members had their own careers. So I watched this announcement with him of course and we both got almost teary eyes. Even today I have to pinch myself that ABBA are active again and making music; or should I say making art. So proud of them. Especially how they are as people, so unassuming, quintessential swedes. For me it's so easy to relate to them as people and not only for me as a swede, but I think also for all ABBA fans. But they are also the greatest music group ever. 40 years break, and they outclass every so called "artists" in today's music industry in musicianship and creating masterpieces every single time, first with these two new songs and the other eight will be just as great and also continue to heal people all around the world during these difficult times with their music. Stay safe my fellow ABBA-fan and have a great day!

If you ever desire to learn more about ABBA, you should check out this BBC documentary made in 2013, about how hard was the road for them to be accepted as serious musicians and all the obstacles they had to overcome. It goes through all the phases of the band, from the very beginning, their 8 studio albums, and the evolution of their music. It also has some insights from Björn Ulvaeus. If you love ABBA you need to listen to Steps... They are really going for the ABBA sound with their new album.... They have always been totally pop sounding but atm they are going for the abba harmonies 😊

No it doesnt break any new ground! Wasnt suppose to. You either like the sound of the band or you dont. I personally was blown away by how wonderful the musical arrangements were on many of the songs and how wonderful a couple of 70 plus year old women can still sound together.

Hey AYBL, i just read one of your comments that you'll check out Gold... looking forward to it. I'm the same age as ABBA, so I got to ride their music train from the beginning. I have to tell you, they never put out a bad song. Be sure to have a look at a few of their lesser known hits like "The Name of The Game" or these three songs..CLASSIC!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iF7HhoCLdrWUe6s They do the odd disco song like "Voulez Vous" but they are definitely NOT a disco band.

Pretty great song all things considered, no? I'm eager for the full album! It's funny but they never considered themselves a pop group. The range of their music is broad and varied. You could(or should!) check out some of their less well-known songs that are nevertheless rather good. For instance some rock and glam-rock songs like _"hey hey Helen," "hole in your soul,"_ or _"I'm a marionette."_ There's a ton a good songs that you've probably never heard! If you try em out you'll discover that they were(are?) much more than just pop and dance-music.

Frida did "I have Faith in You', Agnetha does this one. I love how it builds to a crescendo, notice how Agnetha is alone on the first verse but Frida is with her on the second verse, and of course that chorus is classic ABBA with the girls playing off each other, then Benny throws in his signature "Dancing Queen" descending piano rift. These arrangements are incredible. No wonder ABBA are the third best selling group of all-time, right behind the Beatles and Queen, but ahead of the Stones, Elvis, and Micheal Jackson. If this song doesn't go to the top of the charts when released, I'll be amazed. Also, I Still Have Faith in You has over 17 million views on youtube in less than a week. Number one trending. That's crazy. Subscribed.

It's obvious that Agnetha's voice has aged, but being a good singer she manages it very well. I don't know if there is any auto tune involved - I am not a sound engineer - I have the impression that there's not. Correct me if I am wrong.
@masseysmaineentertainment3 жыл бұрын
I am not either, but I would hate to take that leap and say there is. but even on classic albums - some auto-tuning happened here and there...
@peterssonivanmathias14013 жыл бұрын
No autotune. She varies the pitch of her voice all by herself. When she is ”the younger self” in the text’s story, she sings with a more high-pitced, girlish voice (”once these rooms were witness to our love”, for example). The older Agnetha sitting in the park in the intro has an older woman’s voice. It’s masterful beyond belief, if you ask me!
