Home Free makes everything better. They are the G.O.A.T. Someone once asked Adam how long it took him to learn to beat box and he answered, "I'm still learning." In my opinion, lots of people can learn to make the sounds, but to practice until it's perfect and to have the musicality to apply it artistically in the music is a whole other thing.

The a capella community is really interconnected, especially anyone who was involved with The Sing-Off. Yes, this is Chance's first video as an official band member, but he was an extra in House Party (with Austin's then-girlfriend Olena) and another party song video at a lake. Chance competed with Street Corner Symphony as their bass. He introduced Tim to Jenika, the future Mrs. Foust. The Sing-Off tour after the competition had a brutal schedule, like only eight days off in almost three months, and they formed lasting friendships. HF, VoicePlay, Emoni, and Filharmonic guys are still in contact and collaborate in various ways. VP's latest, In My Room, is a Layne variation of a Rob Dietz arrangement. Rob was one of the coaches and arrangers on The Sing-Off. The first thing the guys did on arriving here in Portland was go to the downtown Voo-Doo Doughnuts and get several of the iconic pink boxes filled with treats like Grape Ape, Dirt, The Homer (Portland is also home to The Simpsons creator Matt Groening), and the Voo-Doo Doll doughnut, to share with the crew.

Skyland is Darren's studio. It is the lack of facial hair that makes Austin look so young. Their ability to switch voices seamlessly is nearly magical. And sometimes, unless you are watching, you don't realize immediately that it has changed. The ability to have 5 distinct voices also seem interchangeable - how can that work?

One of Home Free greatest strengths is, that they don't need too much "show". The "simpleness" of many videos is therefore often enough. Just put them somewhere and they succeed. Their voices do the work. I love this song because all their voices come out so well here. I thought it was the first song with Chance. I think the choice to bring Chance into the group has been the best choice they could have made. He fits perfectly into the group. A really good addition. He has such a recognizable silky smooth and sexy voice. But it sure sounds great. Yes, they all sang really well. This confirms to me why they are number one for me. Someone can have such a great voice, but if it doesn't really get to me, after a few songs I'll quickly turn it off. But I can really hear Home Free all day long. And what an unbelievably freaking good one that Adam is. What great vocal sounds he does here. Not normal how good. The number one beatboxer, the best of all!!!

I would agree - they are so versatile that they will always be impressive, however busy or otherwise the background is. This is an excellent display of what they do, even without Tim's super-bass. Have had it confirmed that this is indeed Chance's first. Very much agreed that there is no weak link in the group - they all stand out, but also all support each other so well.

I love the fun, "bounciness" of this song and that they did it for their "small fries." For some reason, it never occurred to me that there were so many pieces of it that were specifically geared towards the kids even though they said it was done for them. That's probably another reason that they didn't stray too far from the original on this: so the kids could sing along.

I'm glad you picked up on the camaraderie between these groups, it's one of the things I've grown to love about the acapella world. I guess if your chosen musical style is all about co-operation and blending, rather than standing out, you're more likely to be the kind of person who likes collaborating rather than competing. I don't think FifGen/H+F have ever worked with VoicePlay, but they did used to make videos for Pentatonix, so that's another group link, and all of them link to Peter Hollens, as well as Street Corner Symphony.

Part of the reason Austin looks so young is the lack of any beard. Chance's t-shirt says SCS. Street Corner Symphony was his former group. They have some great videos and Madness is my favorite. FYI Home Free won the 4th season of theSing-off while VoicePlay got about half-way before being eliminated. That season was when the two groups became friends. Street Corner Symphony cane in 2nd in season 2. And of course Pentatonix won season 3.

I feel the need for a second comment. Sorry. I was so surprised when you said that you found a Disney Medley by Home Free. I'd never seen one nor heard anything about it. But there they were when I searched - 4 separate audio only "videos". Of course I had to listen. They are pretty good, especially Friend Like Me which has a very 40s swing vibe, complete with (human) horn section. But they are from a pre-Sing Off lineup without Tim and Austin, so the sound and even the feeling are different from today's incarnation. Still worth a listen, but not much like today's group.
