According to Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell, who wrote the lyric, "Like A Stone" is about death, and finding the afterlife through means other than the traditional monotheistic way of thinking. "It's a guy sitting in a hotel room contemplating death," he said in an interview. "Where you go, what it means, and all the different possibilities. And then coming up with an image he likes, going with the philosophy of, maybe when you die, if you've been good enough in your life, you get to go somewhere you remember that's really cool." Rest in peace Chris Cornell.

I swear, sometimes I listen to Chris Cornell and think he might be the greatest rock musician of all time. You have to consider he was a killer songwriter and lyricist, good guitar player, had the look and stage charisma, and of course one of the greatest 4 octave chest voices ever. Dude oozed talent.

This album came out as a demo without all the effects and stuff, and this was my favorite song on it. Afterwards, it changed a bit. But as a kid playing Kid Icarus on the original NES, the greek mythology references were so dope to me. Cornell does some dope stuff and tells all sorts of crazy stories across the board, sometimes the gift is admiring how he takes something simple and turns it into a freaking opera.
