Huge fan of Avi Kaplan. He is such a serious musician and his work is always about being human. I think before he's finished he will leave a musical legacy anyone would be proud of.

Even with what he already has, I think that's the case. So unbelievably versatile as both a singer and a composer. Every time I see someone call his work "Americana" it sends me into a mental rant about how lazy a categorization that is. It is absolutely incredible how he never limits himself to a single style, just picks the sound he thinks best conveys the idea behind the song. This is the first reactor I've seen who picks up on that. 👍

Avi has a Johnny Cash feel to me in his music. That old folk country soul whisky smooth and deep as the Grand Canyon quality that is missing in most modern music. I love to close my eyes and just fall under the spell his music draws me into.

Whistling yes. Other reviewers who were used to the overtones as an amazing thing he did said "Oh so NOW he's whistling too!" He uses the whistling quite a bit in songs. The first several solo songs he did were under the name Avriel and the Sequoias. They are on his KZbin channel however and will not be on the E.P. The other release he did as Avi Kaplan was for the cover of Lean On Me just as everything was shutting down for Covid quarantine. Fields and Pier, Quarter Past Four, Sweet Adeline were done while he was still with Pentatonix. He took time off before beginning his solo career and has referred to those as his "old music". (Fields and Pier was started when he was going off to college I believe.) Avi has always been eclectic in musical performances; acappella, classical, opera, pop, country, folk, jazz, gospel, choral, rhythm-and-blues and even comedic songs. He began winning awards with his various groups in 2008 when the ICCA changed the name of the award from beatboxer to rythmn section so they could award it to a verbal bass - Avi. The Christus Factus Est that used to be used with the Pentatonix performance of the cover of Aha by Imogen Heap was done at Avi's suggestion. As was the idea to arrange Dance of the SugarPlum Fairies for acappella that got Pentatonix their 2nd grammy. Aberdeen is a "tiny" town near Bishop where his mother grew up. He rode the horse and he hadn't ridden since he was a kid. Scott was always "teasing" him that he didn't ride. So he rides a horse in one of his early videos. Should have practiced a bit before hand.

Avi's song Sage and Stone to me is one of his most beautiful. Written for his mom when she got sick, it is just amazing. I don't know if there is a video or live performance, but it's the title song for his Avriel & The Sequioa's EP. Not even sure if you already checked it out. Full Moon is another favorite and it's the last track on I'll Get By album. His new song First Place I Go is about his anxiety and depression that's all I'll say. It is just fantastic. Such a talent. How much was that magical water? LOL Great reaction I just love this man's music so I'm off to watch your other reactions . Thx for reacting to ALL of Avi's music😎

We need to come up with a catch phrase like "mitchslap" for AVI. I think he's so often overlooked. Even when still with pentatonix. I find myself going back and looking at some of their hits and I'm constantly blown away by Avi but it's all in retrospect. He's utterly brilliant. Classically trained. Plays a myriad of instruments. His lyrics hit you where you live. And his voice is velvet no matter what end he's at. Head voice chest his bass...he's just amazing. ❤️

I've always loved this tune. To me it's an homage to a place that feels like "home". A place where you feel safe and you can lay your burdens down and recharge. Whether it's Aberdeen, Yellowstone, or AnyTown, everyone needs that special place where you can let it all go and come away with a full heart and fresh inspiration. There's something very beautiful in that, and Avi captured it wonderfully here. If you want to dip into some of his more emotional, heavy tunes, you should definitely check out It Knows Me, and Chains. Really powerful lyrics. Bring your tissues

Geoff Castellucci's voice is often called 'buttery'. Avi's voice is like deep, dark, chocolate - smooth, complex, and mesmerizing. He's also personal and sort of spiritual in his music, as if music is his spirit journey. His classical training in composing and as an operatic bass shines through.

He just dropped a new video last week. First Place I Go. He had introduced the song in April on his live stream concert. My personal believe is that with First Place, I like the livestream better than his studio recording. Aberdeen is a little town his family drove through going from their home in Visalia, California to his Grandparents farm. He said he always loved the sound of the word and decided to write a song about it. He had ridden horses a few times when at his grandparents, but had thought he was about 12 the last time he had been on one until he rode this for in the video. Livestream concert from April kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2TNe4Z_mK9jb9E I think he has never sounded better live than in this livestream video. You might want to react to First Place I Go official video first...filmed in an old barn with the sun sending beams of light through the spaces between the wood, then listen to the Livestream version, which I consider a master piece. Classically/Operatically trained, the L.A. Opera House had just hired him to be their next Basso Profundo when Scott from PTX contacted Ben Bram trying to find a bass for the group. Ben knew Avi and he gave Scott Avi's number. The rest is history, Now he has time to spend time writing and focusing on A Capella Academy. A group he founded to bring great young people in from all over the world to learn technique's of A Capella singing and performing. So many singers are so wrapped up in their own self they do not have time to give back to the young people, but this is part of Avi's life. There are three men who founded this group but Avi was the brainchild of it. Great contribution, and all three men are considered the "Dads" to the young people. Avi even does live streams every year to raise money for the youth who are accepted but not financially able to come.

His voice is exquisite. He is like the polar opposite of Mitch. They both have what I call "it". Avi the lower end of the spectrum and still smooth and tantalizing, Mitch the higher end. Together they blend in my head, I listen to one and with out the other singing along I can almost imagine it. Strange I know. Avi, so far, of bass singers has a much better tone and is more pleasing to my ears. I love him. As far as Mitch goes, what can I say? There are no words to describe Mitch without sounding like a crazy person. :)

Have you figured out yet that I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Avi-cionado? I've got another recommendation for you, this one the title track from the EP he recorded and released before leaving PTX in 2017 - "Sage & Stone". It's a very unusual piece, deeply intimate and emotional, and was written as a love song for his mother (who was in recovery from cancer). It was his first foray into adding orchestral strings, which gives the song texture and depth. And his harmonies (all him) are extraordinary. kzbin.info/www/bejne/amqkgn14rsZ7m5I

Good reaction, Avi is a very talented musician. It carries seriousness, a lot of work and elegance. Awesome.!!!! 😍 And, as a good metal lover, you should listen/react to The Warning. Three Mexican sisters. Daniela - 21 years old (guitar and lead vocals), Paulina - 19 years old (drums, lead and backing vocals) and Alejandra - 16 (bass and backing vocals). They move between classic rock and modern rock. · In 2014 they covered Metallica's Enter Sandman, which went viral and launched their career as musicians. Today, they have 2 EPs and 2LPs of their own. That same year, they were invited by Metallica to participate in the Blacklist Album for their 30th anniversary. Together with Alessia Cara, they closed the circle with a new version in their style and totally renewed of Enter Sandman. I leave you the link to any of their videos in case you are interested.
