Im from finland and can confirm that all these places are good turist spots but i would allso recomend Turku as it prbably has the most historical importance as its the old capital, it has good views, restaurants and ofcourse the Torun linna or the castle of turku.

Hello, there! Yes, the nature in Finland is beautiful, but the nature of Scotland, the Highlands etc., is breathtaking! The Finns have a special fondness for Scotland and the Scots, as well as for Ireland! They feel a special bond with those countries and the people, a kind of kinship...

The most beautiful is a summer cottage by a lake or the sea, get some friends and a lot of good food to BBQ. Some beers and ciders and make a long weekend out of it. Nothing in the world can beat that.

I think christmass in finland is the most impotant thing in the year. You gather around whit your loved ones and just eat good, play board games, go out for a walk in snowy winterland. It is kinda like a reset button that takes all your stress away for a short time. And hello from finland 😊. I used to visit Levi every winter holiday when i was young whit my cousins. Nothing beats a hot chocolate drink in a mountain side whit mom made sandwhiches on the side. When spring sun warms your face . After a long day skii ing of the slopes. 😊 . Love your videos and reactions btw. Keep up the good work ❤. I lived 18 years of my life in Tornio , which is near Kemi. Snowcastle is very familiar to me. 😊. Yeah it is mostly tourist atraction. But cool place to visit, if you have kids 😊

Unfortunately, in the effort to try to show as many scenic clips as possible, the video narration frequently didn't match the visuals. And, unbelievably, there was no pictures of Olavinlinna, the lake castle that Savonlinna is most famous for! The inclusion of an aerial view of Tallinn (Estonia) was odd too.

I think few main reasons for Tampere being popular (for finns to visit) is it´s more central location than other big cities that are located further from other places. It´s a big city that just takes less hours to travel to. Camping in Finland is a dream. Nature is mostly easily accessible and it´s encouraged to spend time in nature. We have this thing that is called "Every mans rights". They include for example a right to set a temporal camp (for one night) anywhere, right to forage wherever etc (excluding natural preservation areas). It´s polite not to do those things on someone´s backyard of course. We have 40 national parks and a huge amount of other natural parks with marked routes, camping areas, outdoor cooking areas, toilets etc. They are state or municipality maintained and meant for everyone to use.

Thanks for your interest in our quite normal country. I love your scottish accent, too. For a finn, not an interesting TOP10 list at all. Very city oriented, very tourist oriented. From the hat, in no particular order. 1. Helsinki (must have) and Suomenlinna fortress island. Nuuksio area nature walks. 2. Åland Islands (pretty cool, also the smaller islands) 3. Porvoo or Tammisaari (old town areas) 4. Lake Saimaa cruises (from numerous cities), Savonlinna one of them, my home town Imatra hotel and mighty Vuoksi rapids. 5. Lapland in general is a bit boring (because of huge distances), but the wilderness is present everywhere after the arctic circle. In wintertime the snow beauty and northern lights. 6. North-Western coastline and the still rising land (up to 5 cm a year) 7. Russian border is interesting to many. I live 5 km from the russians. 8. Any nature park walk, including Southern Finland. They are all quite different, but every one describes Finland some way. 9. The south-western archipelago, places like Nauvo, Korppoo, Houtskari, Iniö, Kemiönsaari. 10. Some individual personal home (if this can be arranged).

I’d say that if you want to get the most out of Helsinki, I recommend you get to know a local, because this city has so much more to offer! I’ve been all over the country and I think they left one of the most beautiful places out of the video, the nature in Kuusamo region is amazing, at least take a hike to Jyrävä and Kiutaköngäs falls! At shortest you can get to Jyrävä taking just a 3 kilometers hike from Juuma village or Basecamp Oulanka parking lot. Recommend enjoying the beautiful granite cliffs around the Kitkajoki, raindeers may bee seen in the forrest. Kiutaköngäs is a series of waterfalls in Oulanka river and it has even easier access than Jyrävä. At the first fall you can find a giants kettle over 9500 old. In general if you know what to look for, ice age in visible all over the Finnish nature, even here in Helsinki, we have giant’s kettles, scratches on the rock that tells which way the ice moved and many more!

The most beautiful place in Finland is: just about anywhere you can find lowly inhabitated lake in the forest and sit by yourself watching the sunset in the summer. I've seen aurora borealis in southern finland. Sometimes you can in specific solar weather. Even in the south it gets to the point where you see the sun almost starting to climb back up after it's just gone down on the longest day of the year, midsummer. And in the winter only the few hours of sunlight. It's heavy man. Your inner clock goes whack. And lack of sunlight really hits your spirit after few months. Helsinki has some of the most ridiculous modern buildings. And the modern art museum. Finns ask "is this what I paid my taxes for?" But there's many old buildings as well which is nice. And the natural history museum is my favourite. Helsinki is way too big, busy and international for my taste and I live in top 3 biggest cities. It's a fun place to visit for a day trip or a concert or so, but I'd never move there. Where I live is the biggest suburb and there's like 5-10 minutes on bike to three directions to arrive at a different lake in the forest with swimming beach. They didn't even mention that Tampere has all the Kummeli shooting venues, like the sightseeing tower at Pyynikki. The cathedral of Tampere has some beautiful art work by Hugo Simberg. Some have been seen online like The Garden of Death. Part of the attraction of Tampere is that it's not Helsinki. It's big but not international. It's a big small Finnish city. It has a ton of culture from theatre to gigs and art and restaurants. And most importantly it's the crossing place between different directions of Finland going north and south and west (east is a bit difficult due to the ice age hills and lakes, the train tracks go zig-zag and you might have to go through a couple of towns around to arrive). Also Tampere has two competitive hockey teams and pesäpallo (Finnish baseball) team. In both sports Tampere has won the league repeatedly lately. There's a spy museum and Moomin museum too. And it's not like people from other countries don't go to Tampere, there's three universities with exchange students and a lot of immigrants end up in Tampere. I guess tourists just don't know Tampere for some reason. But you see a lot of them anyway. But I'd go to Turku during medieval fair in the summer. That's a really fun time to visit. And the city is just beautiful. Has a river running through it too. It's funny how many of them are in the north so far that most finns never go there.

I live in Helsinki, original from Jyväskylä ( like Ismo the comedian ) it is close to Tampere and sometimes I just took a train with my mom on saturday just to go shopping there. I have relatives in Rovaniemi and Tampere. Porvoo is really close to Helsinki and we had rented sommarhause there for 6 months. ( because our own sommarhouses are too far away ) Åland ( Ahvenanmaa ) is really beautiful and visited all those islands. One city is missing: HANKO!!!! Love the beaches and restaurants. One more thing we finns a lot: take a ferry to Tallin ( Estonia ) or stockhom. These cruice ships are with shops, various restaurants, cabins, night clubs etc. You party one evening then you can spent one day shopping ( I prefer stockholm ) and in the evening you go back to the ship to party even more. Morning you wake in Finland. These cruise are cheap. Ps. I don’t like sleeping in tent. I prefer summer house in the middle on nowhere with proper beds etc.

I think Tampere is popular as it is kinda big city (in Finnish scale - which is really in global scale: we don't have any big cities here, only towns - as there only are 5 million of us alltogether - 18,3 persons per square km - When in Europe it's 109 persons / km²). But Tampere still has a rural feel to it (I quess there's no word in English for an adjective of peasant-type of place and people - said in a loving way). It's also small (as the city centre is between two lakes) -> everything is near. It's kinda cozy place. Which is why I loved living in there - and moved also back there. The culture, lakes - Tammerfest is nice, Tampere Film Festival, all the Theatres, pubs, Pispala, Viikinsaari, Tallipiha, cafes (try the one in the workers' museum quarter of Amuri), old beautiful buildings.... And just hanging around on market places, eating black sausage with lingonberry jam 😁 (I think that's something you only have to eat every once in a blue moon) And Savonlinna really is beautiful city. Quite different in summertime (Savonlinna Opera Festival -> a lot of tourists) and in wintertime (many of the restaurants are not only shut down in winters, but they just disappear - to be built again next summer). The waters there are one of the clearest I've ever seen. If you go there, you just have to eat Vendace served on wooden plank on the terrace above the city - watching people on marketplace, castle and the lakeview. And I'd recommend visiting Punkaharju, too, while you are there. Not the town but the ridge formation (harju) between lakes. To be living there is quite quiet and if you are not local, you will be left in your own peace (in both good and bad ways). And yes, Porvoo. Beautiful. And Hamina. Ahvenanmaa. Pori Yyteri (sand beach). Tammisaari. Raippaluoto in Vaasa. Utsjoki (river in the northernmost Finland). And many other places. Mountains are not in Finland, at all. Only fells and forested hills. But plenty of lakes and forests. And mosquitoes. 😐

The 24 h light in the summer and vice versa darkness in the winter are just so normal, that when I visited northern Italy during summer, I was shocked that it suddenly became dark around 9 pm - and then, when I was in Česká Republika /Czech Republic, during winter, I couldn't believe my eyes when the sun started rising around 6 am. Normally at that time back home it would still be pitch black at least till 10 am 😂 but shortly, it's just normal, something you grow into. Yeah, the sense of time is often far from accurate in midsummer and midwinter when you really can't tell from the suns position. And some people get depressed because of the growing darkness and others from the growing light.

I'm a Finn. I have been to Santa Claus village etc. in Rovaniemi. To be honest they're made for taking money away from tourists, but definitely worth for visiting once in a lifetime. Helsinki is the capital and the largest city, so it's of course worth of visiting but I strongly recommend to visit other cities too just like it was recommended in that video. I have usually told to foreigners that if you are visiting Finland in summer, then explore the southern part of the country. If you're coming in winter, then go to Lapland and not just Rovaniemi. There's more to see.

I live in Rovaniemi and yes, I have seen Northern lights. If you live northern Finland you see Northern lights in winter regularly. We have apps with aurora lights alarms. They shows in nights mostly so you have to be wake or be able to wake up with alarm. And yes, there is 24h sun in summer and 24h darkness in winter time. I don't suffer those, some people do, there is this diagnosis for darkness depression and cure for that is sunlight lamp. But I'm one of those people who's like those seasons. And I lived before in Helsinki few years but I moved back to Rovaniemi. Rovaniemi is very little big city, there is this little city center but huge nature around it. I live 5km away city center and I live like this is almost countryside. This is very quiet neighborhood, I really wake up with birds singing and wind humming in trees every morning and I really love it! But I'm in city center quickly.

I used to live in Savonlinna 20yrs ago, and even compared to the rest of Finland, it's a ridiculously beautiful. You kinda get desensitized to it, so it was a bit of a shock when I moved out "What do you mean, I have to pay a ridiculously high rent if I want a lake view apartment, or even an apartment NEAR the lake/sea? That's ridiculous, lakes are EVERYWHERE, of course EVERYONE has a view of the lake! Oh, right, not in here, that was only in Savonlinna."

I lived in Lapland 4 years. Santa village is great place to visit under christmas to get your holiday spirits on.. its free to enter, same as meeting santa, but pictured with santa cost money and the santa shopping center every price is higher than in the city center. Whole christmas is very heavily marketed there, and while living there my daughter actually stopped believing in santa, because santa is EVERYWHERE at the same time in Rovaniemi :🤣 Auroras are always better in pictures and videos, thats something to keep in mind. They are common up there, I could watch them from my front door, but they are NOT the same with plain eye as they are in social media or videos. Midnight sun is very real, but so is polar night. Polar night isnt all darkness tho, especially in january the pink and pastel colors for few hours a day are wonderfull with the sugarcoated snowy trees. 😍

A Finn here. I would say the Santa Claus and the ice hotels are mostly tourist places. Nice for kids though. Hard to understand the amount of cities. Just forget Tampere and Vaasa. Olavinlinna with lake Saimaa and Koli (a higher mountain peak in Saimaa with beautiful 360* view) is recommended. Åland is good as is the Turku archipelago in the southwest. Helsinki has a lot to offer (needs two days). The Lapland region in the north is amazing both in winter and in summer. Autumn colours will explode in the north in September (usually second week in September). Unforgetable. Haven't been able to see Northen Lights yet. Here in the south it's too much light pollution. You have to be in a place were there are no cities nearby that illuminates the nightsky. In the winter, in Lapland when the magnetic fields are right, the sky will turn into the beautiful Northen Light dance. If you want to hike in the mountains, I would recommend the Swedish mountains more. They are higher and the biggest difference is that there are a lot of glacial creeks everywher so you don't have to carry all your water (which you have to in Finland, -mostly anyway). I've been wandering in Northen Finland, Sweden and Norway. My heart is there in those mountains, But now my heart draws me into Scotland and especially the Highlands and Islays. Probably within the next two years. Greetings from Finland

This was a nice list but seemed to lack a lot of the beauty that is commonly respected in Finland. Like you thought the ice hotels etc. are mainly for tourists, even Santas village. Also I'm finnish and the farthest north I've been has been Oulu (only once and I'm 36) which is around the middle of Finland length wise. Northern lights are very rare in the South of Finland but I've seen them a couple of times. They are very dim and mostly only one color here. People love going outdoors and into nature, finns have been pagans for a long time further back in history and our spirituality is based for many into nature. Many of our modern church holidays are based on pagan festivities which tool place around some nature's cycle (like mid winter/mid summer etc.). There has been a surprisingly large group of Finns who migrated to North-America and they got along well with indians and even married them maybe because the respect for nature and spirituality in that sence is similar.

I'd definitely recommend anything close to the nature - which won't be that far away where ever you go. For example there are plenty of summer cabins available for rent. Usually those are by a beautiful lake or the sea, most have at least some amenities like running water, and each one will have a sauna. Do like a Finn and leave your laptop home and spend a week or two just eating well and doing nothing. Also the national parks are just awesome and there are plenty. Some are close to the cities like Nuuksio, that are easily accessible (1h from Helsinki center by bus) and are great for day trips, while others especially up north are complete wilderness in the middle of nowhere, where you can trek for weeks without seeing another human being or having a mobile signal. Those Santa-Parks and Ice hotels are probably something like 95% for the foreign tourists. As for the polar night and midnight sun, both really are something special even for me, and I live on the same latitude as Helsinki. Down here the sun still sets for a couple of hours in the middle of summer (although it's never dark), and similarly the sun can sometimes be seen in the middle of the winter if you're lucky. In Lapland - no.

This is a really ...weird video of Finland. They said "Temple Church" but showed outside pictures of two other churches 🤦🏻‍♀ And what's the point of showing Savonlinna and mentioning the castle there ..but not showing any photo of the castle? But, to mention some traditional foods: - Kalakukko is a very traditional food from Kuopio. It is a ton of little fish baked into a rye dough. - Karjalanpiirakka is a really tasty snack of rice porriage wrapped into a very thin, and beautifully folded rye dough. - One tradition on Christmas is to fill the table with different casseroles and meat: Pork, sweet potato casserole, carrot casserole, liver casserole, rutabaga casserole, rosolli, etc. No one will leave that table hungry. - A very simple but tasty summer food is first (boiled) potatoes of the summer, herring and butter. Insanely simple but so good.

Shame that Tampere was filmed at the worst time of the year. (Early spring when snow has just melted)

These descriptions seem a little bit vague🤣As a finn, IMO most of those towns are not known for their food even though the narrator says so. But he's right that Tampere is a very popular town among locals. It's large enough to have a lot of attractions, but the atmosphere is more relaxed than in Helsinki.

This is very outdated video, the snow castle of Kemi has not been built anymore, in three winters actually. There is only a big "freezer" where tourists can experience ice and snowy climate inside a "Snow castle" facility all year round. Kind of disappointing.

I’ve been living in Tampere for 15 years now and for me it’s the best city in Finland. It is big, but it doesn’t feel like it. ( at least not while there is no ice hockey game in the stadium 😂) The yearly Christmas market, for example, feels really homey and cozy. Plus, the nature around it is everything 😍 I can’t imagine living anywhere else anymore. It’s a pity the video only shows Tampere with little snow and not on full winter or summer. It made it look kinda depressing. Which it really isn’t.

Savonlinna is a fantastic place! Too bad an ugly city was built there. Mostly 70's and 80's style block buildings.

#1 the archipelago As for cities, there really is only one worth the name, Helsinki. Old Porvoo and Rauma are pretty, but once you go out of the historical centres, they are ugly. Turku has been raped and Tampere is just meh. Just about all Finnish medium sized and small towns are ugly as fok. It doesn`t really help that you have endless (boring) forest and a lake next to a DDR style concrete bunkers. For the record, I am a Finn.

I have no idea why "most beautiful places to visit" there are nothing but tourist traps like Santa park, Suomenlinna or Levi ski resort or Kemi snow castle... :(. Kemi is btw one of the ugliest cities. How about Pallas national park, Turku and its archipelago, Saimaa lake area like Punkaharju... I would choose Pori instead of Vaasa, Pori has the beautiful beach Yyteri, a must place to visit. If you are a tourist, skip these stupid tourist traps and focus on genuine places.
