I love Bill Burr, and I love the fact that he has stories about the incredible bands, as well as the fact that he understands drumming concepts as well! The word "meshuggah" is an old Hebrew/Yiddish word that means "crazy". If you had a Jewish grandpa, he'd refer to you as meahuggah if you were a radical wild child or if you were NOT playin with a full deck, so to speak.

Yes I have seen Bill Burr. I would seek out my fav comedians with my friends, get hammered drunk and watch a single speaker talk in a dim lit room. Not a good idea for someone like me. We kept falling asleep to a couple shows even though we loved the comedian but Bill Burr was such a riot, we were awake the whole time and that may not sound like much but trust me, I work the early shift so anyone that can keep me awake at 9pm is really good at what they do. The only bummer about this interview is Howie, if you ask me. Just let Bill Burr nerd out about this amazing moment. I just wanted to hear more and more about the story but Howie is always like "This might as well be a different language." It wasn't that deep of drumming lingo. Let us hear the long version!

Nice idea doing a reaction to an interview, reacting to like... drumming culture and the life of a creative and stuff. Great prompt for discussion! On the topic of "finding your calling", I'm in my mid-30's and definitely still trying to find it. Being a creative can be weird like that for some, like I see Bill Burr being a pilot, drummer and comedian and I find that whole "wearing many hats" thing super relatable. Only I have like... 45 hats. 😆 I'm still personally trying to piece it all together and make it work, as I'm sure a lot of us creatives are, but I'm really getting to this place where I'm like... and this might sound weird... I'm kinda hoping I *don't* find my "one calling". I'm hoping I don't just go "okay, I'm a drummer, I play rock and that's all I do for the next 30+ years" or "okay, I'm a history teacher, and that's all I do for the next 30+ years", because for a brain like mine, that's like... boring as fuck. No offense at all to anyone who finds passion in refining one craft that's their "calling", but I don't think everyone's wired like that. I am in love with the journey, exploring, trying new things, melding genres/instruments/mediums. Which is like... a meta-calling? I guess? Sorry for the rant, this video really got my brain-gears turning! Mid-30's is a weird time in life, people really expect you to like... find your "one thing" and really be settled into it. I ain't about that. I'm learning to be okay with that, and I'm trying real hard to stop fighting it and instead focus on making it work.

I'm catching up on all of your videos so you don't need to reply or anything, but Burr is a GOAT and is a HUGE fan of metal and I love it. He avoided it for so long because he thought it would make him more angry but realized its just mind blowingly technical music. Howie knows nothing about music btw and is honest about it thankfully. The only show I can name he was on was Bobby's World which probably ages me but fuck it was my childhood. Wanna just throw in everyone is always trying to figure out what those things are that come naturally and is their THING. It's an eternal struggle. Personally I have found two things that were my THING and due to life I am unable to do either of them which sucks but it just means I'll hopefully find something else that just clicks like that with me. Darker side I honestly doubt it but I had those good years of being able to do what I feel like I was made to do.

To answer your question about what Howie says. Meshuggah literally means 'crazy' or 'insane' in Hebrew . Hey man, you're videos have been great. If you got a lot of drum knowledge it would be cool to see more of your reactions to meshuggah or tools songs and hear your thoughts about it. but I just hope you stay authentic, because it's quite disappointing to check out react videos and feel like the person is just pandering to fans of the bands for view and likes. Meshuggah for instance is a very intense metalband that can take a long time to appreciate, for me it took months before i started to enjoy many of their songs, and by now i love them. So whether you find the songs awesome, bland, annoying or whatever it is i hope you give us the real reaction. we'll respect you for it🤘

Without a doubt i am bringing more Tool and Meshuggah to this channel. As a musician and a drummer I strive to give as much insight as I can with stuff like this. I may not get it all correct all the time, but i do my best to give educated reactions from a musical, technical and artistic standpoint. And like I discussed in my recent video "PSA to the Drumlion Community", i will always be authentic, because I am passionate about music, and always willing to learn more about the areas i may not have a ton of expertise on. Bands like Tool and Meshuggah definitely require time and effort to fully digest the experience of their music, but I take pride in being able to absorb and then express my interpretation of what I hear. That is my promise to you and my growing community here on KZbin.

As a mexican it would be like a band called “wey” where it’s a common ass word but even worse a fool word. We say. “No seas wey” . Maybe a black word would be like “jit”. child savants never end up becoming anything. At best they can become studio musicians. Technically masterful but zero creativity. They completely pass over that stage of fumbling discovery that creates truly unique music and composition. If you don't know what your not supposed to do, its easier to break the mold and push boundaries.
