Our reaction to Bo Burnham Words Words Words was definitely a more reactive video than some videos we have done in the past. This song was very funny to us and Bo was dropping all sorts of bars in there! We constantly enjoyed listening to this song from front to back with a spectrum of emotion.
Original Song: • words, words, words.

It's interesting to see how he's evolved as an artist. He was a lot sillier and more offensive when he was a kid. He got a lot more self reflective and deep as he got older.

BTW the “Bo talks in the 3rd person.” Bar was a crazy triple. He was talking in the 3rd person while the 3rd person got Botox and then her head exploded and Bo’s head appeared so he was now actually talking in the 3rd person.

One of Bo’s most serious songs and one that would be sick for you guys to do next is “Art is Dead” When he performs it he tends to mention beforehand that it isn’t a joke it’s just something he wrote to basically vent and you can feel how real it is in the song Hella good video and you guys got all my respect keep doing what you’re doing

I will ALWAYS ask for Eff and Hell of a Ride. They are actual rap songs, and there aren't videos with them. Eff is short but GREAT. So I suggest putting them together, but up to you. Eff they also have the lyrics on the videos, which is VERY helpful with Hell of a Ride.

Doubling up on the Eff and Hell of a Ride suggestions. Eff is a perfect example of what Bo sounds like actually rapping, with Hell of a Ride being him just going all out. Would also recommend Nerds since that's another perfect example of hitting you with realness in the third verse of a song.

You aren't appreciating the fact that he ABSOLUTELY SPITS BARS. I have been watching reactions to this song from literal professionals, and their jaws are on the floor the whole time. It's literally comedy-rap, think an exaggerated Lil' Dicky. He wants you to laugh, but he ALSO wants you to realize the talent he has. He's not trying to write some gangster rap. He's trying to show you that you can spit BARS and also be silly at the same time. Maybe you need to know him as a person, but that's literally the whole point is to make you laugh, but ALSO make you 𝙏𝙃𝙄𝙉𝙆

You guys have to check out his earlier songs, even earlier than this. When I first saw him we were both still in high school and he was literally posting songs from his childhood bedroom where he still lived at the time. My faves are I'm Bo Yo and 3.14 Apple Pie. I will warn you they are a bit more "teenage boy" humour than the stuff you've seen so far but you can see so clearly how smart and witty he was even then, I knew he'd do big things.

Another awesome breakdown from you two! This is one of Bo’s classics from his edge-lord days. Just straight up insanity lol. Even at that young age he couldn’t help himself from tossing in some real shit even in a song like this. It’s really interesting seeing how he’s progressed as an artist and views the subject matter of his older material. A lot of stuff from this era and earlier bothers him and he’s done a lot to distance himself from it. Not that it’s bad, cuz it’s all brilliant…but that’s just kind of rare in comedy. There’s a lot of comedians who are either unwilling or unable to look at their own work within the context of changing social dynamics…but not Bo, if he realizes something he used to joke about turns out to be punching down, he just abandons it and writes something even better. Can’t wait for a full inside reaction!!! In the meantime y’all gotta peep: Art is dead Repeat Stuff (music video version) Hell of a ride Sad #deep Men and Women Straight White Male Keep ‘em coming! One of the reasons I still like watching Bo's older stuff is because I think of it like a series with some of the most intriguing long-term storytelling (Though the long-term part is pretty accidental)... An edgy young comedian who kinda just rhymes to be clever who slowly finds meaning in his craft, while simultaneously spiraling mentally and trying to balance it... It's a bit depressing and you can probably skip the Comedy Central special, but if you watch "Words, Words, Words", "What.", and "Make Happy" in order, I feel like that's such a beautiful story, with "Inside" being a beautiful sequel... But I will agree, watching some of his older songs individually doesn't do as much for me as his sorta serious or full-on serious songs...

@peterlewis2178

Interesting that you think that. I far prefer the sound in the videos to the specials, because in the specials he's usually not autotuned at all, so it's super noticeable when he's out of tune. But then, I'm just really sensitive to the slightest issues in intonation.
@JuiceboxTheShuckle

@@peterlewis2178 i just prefer the uncluttered visuals and sound of the specials, far better to hear and understand the lyrics without all (or almost all) of the theatrics. It's a matter of preference anyway. As i said, i can tell why he does his music videos the way he does, repeat stuff is pretty well made for what he wanted to say, but I still don't like it. Which is odd, because in most cases i prefer studio version of songs instead of love performances, but in Bo's case is the opposite.

I think we end up in dad joke territory when he tries to make every single line a double, which gets pretty boring after a while, also doesn't really give the song a clear theme. Some of the bars are much more clever than a basic play on words though. Like the USA-rhyme scheme.

Lmao, I absolutely hate the production on this version of this song. You'll find the same thing with "Oh Bo" if you haven't seen it already. I much prefer the stage show recorded version from the actual special, Words, Words, Words. The album and video version I hate listening to, but it's *great* to sing all the way through a "rap" (eh? ish.) song and not have to dodge landmines and check my surroundings to see if I should just play it safe and throw on some banjo music. 👀

The fact the title says “What is this mess?” pretty much tells me I’m not interested in watching. That song is not a mess. That song is brilliant. Every bar is a pun or a double. You only think it’s a mess if you’re not listening. Obviously we can’t expect people to pick up on every punchline the first time, but they should certainly be able to pick up on enough to realize that the lyricism is masterwork and should make you want to immediately go back and watch it again and again. I really hope that’s just an unfortunate choice of words and not an opinion about what you watched.
