In the later years of the group, Camel is mainly Andy Latimer, and Andy had a pretty serious bout with cancer in the late 2000's (IIRC). This might be the best live version of _"Stationary Traveller"_ (I couldn't say for sure), but the best live-concert of theirs is (IMO) _"Live at the Royal Albert Hall"_ in 2018. This was their return to Royal Albert Hall for the first time in something like 30 years. Great concert, great quality sound and video, and you can tell that Andy and the band are absolutely loving it. But getting back to _"Stationary Traveller",_ I love the album that this song comes from (which is also named _"Stationary Traveller")._

Yep, there's a lot of folk who never heard of Camel. But they were up there with Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin etc with a massive following. I suppose they just never chased media attention. Andy Latimer formed his own record company (Camel Productions) and the music was enough to draw the fanbase in. They were certainly doing well enough that PR wasn't needed and they never needed to be in a spotlight. Andy Latimer was free to concentrate on what he loved doing i.e. making music.

Don't usually go for instrumentals (probably why I've never checked out their Snow Goose album, no excuse for not checking out anything else by 'em before!) but loved this - and can certainly hear the influence they had on Marillion (my favourite band as it happens), and Steve Rothery (My favourite guitarist, etc...) in particular

The slow stuff Andy does, especially with the pan flute, is in some ways harder than fast shredding. If he made a single mistake everyone would be able to tell. I've seen videos where he's playing a regular flute as well. He's amazing.

Try 'Sasquatch', which is from the 'Single Factor' album and also appears on the same videos as the clip here is extracted from, 'Pressure Points'. The original version of 'Sasquatch' featured drummer Simon Phillips (Jack Bruce, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Toto...) and bassist David Paton (Pilot, Alan Parsons Project, Kate Bush, Elton John...). It's an upbeat instrumental that exemplifies Andrew Latimer's great tone, technique, and sense of melody. There is also live video version from the 'Coming of Age' DVD, during the time when Latimer was living in California. A serious illness took him home to England, and he continues to front Camel, with a fine DVD from the Albert Hall being the most recent offering. Also worth noting that Roger Waters wanted Latimer in his band, but his voice was apparently incompatible in terms of fit for the backing harmonies.

I heard of camels on a desert but never heard of a band named Camel. I didn't know this is an instrumental. I thought it was a nice piece of music that was well played. The instrumentation is excellent. You are correct Shawn, that man played the pan flute. It produces a haunting sound. I agree Trey about the mellow style and nice lead guitar in the second half of the song. Cool title. Since there are no lyrics, I wonder what it means? Sometimes I feel like a stationary traveller.

Trucker Kev The Paid Tourist first off dont try to son me like you’re actually someone who has the authority too...and to get back to the music you probably assume i listen to mainstream artists that my generation glorify, but that simply isn’t the case. i’m not even a fan of rap anymore but kanye wests music isn’t even “rap” i consider it to be pure art and genius. each and everyone of his albums is (sonically) completely different than each other. with his album 808’s and heartbreak he single handedly shaped the new generation of artists music including drake which some would consider to be the biggest most successful artist of all time due to so many of his hit songs (which i am most definitely not a fan of) so really i guess my main point is no other band, artist, or group can successfully push their limits the way kanye west has and still be relevant especially with the way today’s society works, and how you have to keep doing the next crazy ass thing to barely stay relevant. im sure you can name dozens of bands that i listen to with perfect discographies, but when it comes to kanye west the diversity by itself cannot be compared to anyone else. also idgaf if this was one long ass sentence
