Song is spot-on for the situation. You can try to work through love/hate, but not after it reaches detachment.

Profound reaction, Dave. This is an amazing song. You are right - there's very little in life that there hasn't been a song written about, so it is indeed a good source for inspiration for life decisions. At least you can gain perspective on what directions are out there to take. Thanks for the reaction - have a great rest of your day.

Just for yourself, check out this song on video from the Charlie Rose show. The words are a little harder to understand, it's a little less clean, but the emotion is even more of a blow to the gut. (I'll take that tradeoff!) His live versions always exceed the studio versions, IMO. Yeah, this song hits hard. I like your interpretation of learning from songs like this, but it's also a relief to know someone else understands how you feel/have felt at some point. Beauty out of pain. OMG, I love this man's artistry!

After listening to many of Chris Stapleton’s songs, it finally hit me. Chris was born with a God given talent for singing, playing guitar and writing music. There’s no way in this world that every song he’s ever written, he can relate to. However, every song that he sings he does it in a way that makes me the listener feel like he’s lived that song. He’s amazing! As for this song “Either Way,” i’ve lived it! When I first listen to him sing a song and he got to the end of that first verse, “you can go or you can stay, I won’t love you either way” I did a double take! I thought he said some thing else. When I realized it and I let it soak in what he just said, I was hooked! I prefer watching his videos instead of listening to them. The reason why is because I like to watch his emotions, his facial expressions and all that he does because I think it puts a lot into the music. Love me some Chris Stapleton!!!

Hey Dave always enjoy your reactions. I have been with my wife for 40 years and we have had ups and downs but always worked it out. It takes work and respect . kudos to you for bringing out the message in the song.

I agree with what you said with one exception. What you said was that if you get to this point in a relationship it means at some point you didn't do what you needed to do to avoid it, but a relationship that goes like this is often a symptom of a one sided relationship, where one side has done everything they can to save it and received nothing in return, and after a while you just think fuck it, this is what it is I'm tired of fighting. Maybe scared to leave, scared of change, of where you'll live, that you won't find someone else... something other than the person you're in it with is tying you to that relationship because the love has died, not because you failed to water it, but the other person dug it up. Relationships are two way emotional bank accounts. With our words and actions we make deposits and withdrawals and if one side only withdraws love dies, just like this.

I found myself feeling that way in my past relationship. She broke me emotionally over and over again until I just didn't feel any more love or affection for her and I finally said an angry goodbye to her last year and I haven't spoken to her since then.

Not sure how to contact you except here but LOVE your reviews! You KNOW your music. I have a request for two other country songs. Tracy Lawrence "Paint me a Birmingham." and "You find out who your Friends Are." Classic country. I truly LOVE Chris Stapleton too. He is beyond boundaries of genre. Everything he does is FIRE.
