I had heard a few Citizen Soldier songs before here and there but never gave it much thought. But now think to these reactions I have a whole new level of appreciation for them.

I discovered Citizen Soldier a while back, but I’m glad others are talking about them. I feel heard by these songs and that I’m not alone with my struggles. This music saves lives and knowing that someone out there is writing music and saving lives makes me incredibly happy. My mom lost someone to su!cide before I was born and it affected her so much when she realized I was in the same boat. I have improved since mentally but it is still a long journey

The first time I listened to this song was... strange. It wasn't the gut-punch or catharsis that a lot of their songs have been for me, but every line still drew memories and I was extremely focused in on the lyrics. I wasn't sure if it was just the timing and my mood, but watching this reaction seems to be doing about the same now. There's way too many things for me to try to relay much, but I do want to take a moment for the "if only I had someone else to blame" line. I personally take it a bit more specifically, basically with the emphasis on "else." (Text to follow contains a lot of flawed logic; things I know are inaccurate or false, but can't seem to stop believing anyway. Mentioning this because I present it as absolute statements rather than just personal interpretations or lines of thinking.) Despite being aware of some of the sources of many of my problems, acknowledging their effects just feels like excuses (but only for me; they're valid struggles for anyone else). I know what they are and what need to change, and I know of plenty methods for enacting such changes, and it is therefore only my fault that I'm not "fixed" yet. But all the self-blame and self-loathing drains my energy and will, so I continue to accomplish nothing, and so continue to have things to blame and hate myself for, and continue to have more examples of my failure as a person. No one did this to me. Nothing really objective did this to me. I don't HAVE a problem, I AM the problem. Anyway, that aside... don't stress about feeling like you don't relate to something. So much of the value of Citizen Soldier is, indeed, feeling seen and understood, but that doesn't mean that you have to fully relate to everything, or even any of it. I'm GLAD that you have trouble relating to at least some of it, because I don't want people to have to struggle and suffer. That you are listening and not just brushing these things off is plenty. In fact, it'd be terrible if the only people who listened were those who could personally relate. The idea of that being true is part of what makes it so hard for a lot of people to open up and ask for help.

Yo! If you’re not planning to react to it already, I would HIGHLY recommend watching “Gold SSD” by DAGames. It’s (in my opinion) one of his most emotional song since “As the Lights Go Out.” It’s also going to be on the same album as “Blue SSD.”

This was the most painful one of their songs yet for me to where I can’t even decide if I love it for it or hate it with how deep it cuts. I couldn’t even cry at the lyrics, more just kind of sat here and hurt for a bit even after it ended. I just relate so much to the songs lyrics. Just the feeling of knowing I’m my own worst enemy with nobody else to blame. Constantly thinking that I should be able to get over this given so much of it is internal and yet unable to really escape as my own mind constantly shoves me back down with no way to run or hide. Even now when I’m doing better than I have in a long time there’s still that fear because I’m terrified that my brain will just pull me back under. Just a constant worry that this reeprieve won’t last. Nothing against the band they did a great job writing and performing but it’s just a rough piece to listen too for me.
