The whole album Boomtown is, in my opinion, one of the best of the 80s. "Swallowed By The Cracks", "Heroes", and "Ain't So Easy" are standouts.

One of VERY rare occasions where 2 studio musicians came together and decided to show the world what studio musicians are capable of .... Now that I think about it ... The ONLY occasion. I graduated high school in 82, and I remember the album well. In fact, I'm 58 now, and this album (in cd form) is stuck in my stereo at the house right now. Listened to it this weekend. Love these guys!

One of the best written, performed and produced songs of the 80s IMHO. Very accurate lyrics. Remember this was the heyday of the yuppie generation. Looks, appearance and "behaviour" was everything in the financial circles that was booming - the undertow wasn't that great. David Baerwald was always a great singer - which he later has proved on his solo-material.

Shawn, I haven't heard of this artist. I like the strong rocking sound of this song. When it picks up tempo is rocks. Then it eases up only to return to a rock sound . The drums stand out. The guitars are played good. There's a story in the lyrics and you brought out the meaning in your comment.. Cool rocking tune.

I want to say this song might have been used in the Miami Vice tv series. Always thought it sounded a bit like a lost child of Lou Reed listening to the Boss. I believe they parlayed their success into producing singers like Toni Childs.

Funny I don't think that this sounds very 80s at all. Lyrically definitely more in line with alt 90s. Denny's a mecca for late nite diner food & discreet transgressions apparently ;) BTW - the single version was shorter (they cut out the spoken part)

IMO one of the most underrated albums ever. There isn't a bad song on the album. I cannot count the number of times I've replaced due to water damage, scratches during moving etc. The first time I heard it I knew this was the soundtrack of my life. What will I ever do if I can no longer get a copy? I thought the beginning of the song was more early 90's (more forward thinking) and the end of the song is more mid-80's. Just my thoughts.

Kia ora hello Shawn my friend. Hay brother just over a week ago i told you about the young Maori Lady with toddler's who while I was going home to get my eftpos card payed for my shopping $52.50 I'd never met her and still haven't .but last Thursday payday i went back to the shop with a letter I'd written her with double the amount of money $105 and a $ 50 credit to spend at that shop. To day i went there to check my lotto ticket another faulty one and she had just been in the shop about half an hour earlier AND REVENGE IS SWEET ..... THE LADY'S AT THE SHOP SAID SHE WAS CRYING NOT JUST THE MONEY I'D WRITTEN IN THE LETTER HOW SHE AND HER KIND GENEROUS HEART HAD TOTALLY REINFORCED MY BELIEF IN HELPING PEOPLE NOT BECAUSE YOU FEEL AN OBLIGATION BUT BECAUSE YOU CAN

When I first glanced at the title I thought it was a Boomtown Rats song! BTW, you should have your son or especially your daughter (because she has most likely not heard it) react to the song/lyrics "I Don't Like Mondays", which has a dark and, in case you are not aware, very relevent backstory. I would really like to hear the opinion of a young person who has had to grow up with these things happening regularly.
