The letter was the Box Tops, 1967. Billy Joel sang, I’m Still Standing, with Elton John in concert but he didn’t make his own cover of the song. I don’t think Billy Joel made any covers.

Billy Joel made over 40 covers 😝 How about Hard Day’s Night, Heartbreak Hotel, Walk This Way, Back in the U.S.S.R, Born to Run, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road..the full list of covers he made is available on second hand songs site.

@@Dr_KAP Yeah 40, I don’t think so and all were on live albums and included traditional songs, like Take Me Out To The Ball Game, he never released a cover on a studio album. And before you answer that, New York State Of Mind, was written by Billy Joel.
