Umm Australia has mountains, I think she needs to travel a bit more. The blue mountains, great dividing range in NSW, the highlands/alpine areas, the Otways and the Dandenong ranges in Victoria. There is also mountain ranges in QLD and Tassie.

It's essential for children to learn to swim here in Australia. My grandchildren started at 6 months. Learning the correct technique from young will ensure they will be safe later in their childhood.

I came to Australia from England in 1972 at the age of thirteen, it was hard for my parents as they left my two eldest brothers in the RAF. Australia provides some fantastic life styles. I am not much of a beach goer, but I love to get around in the outback. You know you are in the outback when you travel for six hours and pass one car. After a while distance doesn't seem to bother you much. I remember a days outing from Horley to Brighton the distance of about twenty five miles. As a keen pistol shooter I would finish work around six jump in my car and do a thousand kilometers just to get to a competition. House prices at present are ridiculous and the rental market is just crazy, fortunately I own my own home about fifty kilometers from the city by road. I can see Sydney from my back veranda and that is about as close as I want to get.

an ex came out about the same time as you, it was funny hearing her family talk about how far they thought things were in the UK, they came from Sussex area and said it took 4hrs to get to top of Scotland, that's an outing for most Australians and how long it takes to visit your closest neighbour for others here lol

We actually do have mountains here in fact the 3500km long Great Dividing Range is the worlds’ fifth longest mountain range. Plenty of National Parks offering hiking tracks. Will involve a drive. Here in Brisbane we have great walking trails just a few short kms from the CBD.

And a 19km Grand Cliff Top Walk has just opened in the Blue Mountains. Although you can do sections of your choosing, the totality is a two-day walk along the escarpment in the Blue Mountains National Park, and through locations linking Wentworth Falls, Leura and Katoomba.

I have lived in Australia my whole life, my mother was born in Glasgow and my Father born in the Channel Islands. When I was 29 I applied for my british passport and dual residency then moved to Glasgow. I spent two years there and absolutely loved it. Incredible place with brilliant people and an amazing culture of nightlife and fun. I never wanted to leave. Unfortunately Covid came along and shut down the office I was working in, and my travel partner at the time lost her job too, so we decided to swing back to Australia for a bit to recollect ourselves. I then realised just how amazing Australia was. So many things that I didn’t even know I missed became so clear to me. Seeing it in a new light made me realise that Australia will always be my real home, and a fantastic one at that.

There will always be pros and cons when you relocate anywhere, even from one Australian state to another. Most Aussies are laid back and welcoming. However, we have our outright nasty pricks as well. If you can handle having the piss taken out of you on a regular basis and you aren't afraid to dish it back, you'll do well. We are unique and polyglot, you need to roll with it.

My nephew does Nippers and loves it. It's a good opportunity to learn open water safety and stay active, especially as today's kids spend so much time watching screens. BTW, the narrator said London has the same population as the whole of Australia. Nope! Aus has 27 million & London metro area 14.8 million. As for jobs, maybe get advice from a migration agent while you're still in Malaysia? 😊

In '62 Mum,Dad & I migrated to Melbourne on the "ten quid pom" scheme. So,£30 for us.....but..... I wasn't coming without my cat. £42-10 later ......... He travelled separately & was supposed to be isolated.Ha ! He had the run of the ship & slept in the 2nd engineers cabin......typical !

Although housing is expensive, don't discard the thought of an apartment as a less-expensive option. There's quite a range. We live in a large 3-bed apartment 15 mins from the CBD, right next to a Metro station and bus stop. The complex has a gym, pool, cafe, little restaurant, convenience store, and a small park with a play-in, run-through fountain. Across the road is a huge park, and there's a servo a short distance away. There's a lot of children in the complex because parents have the benefit of the outdoors without the upkeep. I was chatting with a man in the lift today. He was initially a bit startled when I said "Hi." He explained that he's fairly newly arrived from Bath, and still finds it strange that occasionally people in Australia will just talk to him. My work employed someone from Cambridge through an online application and then a Zoom interview. If you're the right person for the job, it doesn't matter where you come from.

Aussies goes to New Zealand to ski. Loads of Kiwis come to the Gold Coast to get the warmth. Its reasonable priced to go to NZ. Its only 8 hours to Singapore from Brisbane. Brisbane is cheaper than Sydney and Melbourne

NZ is beautiful ........I did a lap around the South Island on a bicycle..........probably the hardest ride I have ever done.........coolish weather, wind, lots of rain sandflies you can experience everyday.. lovely people, great food and a beautiful photo around every corner..........worth every minute.........however Australia for living and work is the place to be.. cheers

I really think it would be worth your while to look into the job aspect of moving to Australia. At least find out now so that you will know how it all works. I do know that there are a list of professions that we are actively encouraging foreigners to apply for because we don't have enough people with those skills to fill the positions.

NZ is absolutely beautiful. We have an arrangement with NZ where we can move to each other's country and are treated like citizens. NZ is basically a state of Australia with a funny accent where they got their vowels all mixed up. 😂

There is another part of Australia that is always ignored. Covers 1/3 of the landmass and it is called Western Australia. Unemployment is low and FIFO (fly in fly out) jobs are always available in the mining industry. We came here as 10 pound tourists in 1974. We both found work quickly. Me in a brick works loading trucks with bricks by hand ( before palates ). About 30 tons per day. It was a job In a couple of months I was employed by a soft drink company as a quality control supervisor. Never looked back and never regret migrating to Australia.

A lot of Aussies & Kiwis have family in both countries. Going back & forth is easy. Most Aussies have holidayed in Bali at some point. It’s different and fun. Any skilled person should be able to find work. There’s good public transport in larger cities. Don’t just look at Sydney. The other cities & larger towns are great.

The beach culture is very strong, swimming is a compulsory subject in school from age 5. When I wasc15 I was a fully qualified lifesaver. I was surfing and spear fishing from age 13.

I'm a born and bred Aussie (my ancestors haven't lived anywhere else since the 1830s). I wouldn't even consider living anywhere else. People who like to travel overseas have asked me in the past why I don't want to travel and the truth is, why would anyone? Australia is like a concentrated microcosm of the entire world. We have barren deserts, we have tropical rainforests, we have white sandy beaches, we have hot weather areas, we have cold weather areas, we have people living here from all over the world who bring their cultures (and most importantly their cuisine) with them. Anyone who chooses to leave this country usually only do so to further their chosen career path, and they almost always regret it.

New Zealand is relatively close. From Sydney New Zealand is a three hour flight, but Perth is a five hour flight, so the country is closer that substantial parts of Australia..

The woman made some good points and were pretty spot on. My wife is from overseas, so I am somewhat familiar with the migration process, albeit from 10 years ago. I'd suggest having your visa in place, you have up to 12 months to be located in the country. Once you have it, then start applying for jobs, once you've decided where you want to live. If you want to get your kids into Nippers then it is as easy as rocking up to your local Surf Lifesaving club and enrolling them. I was too old for Nippers when it started, but I was a surf lifesaver for a few years, I had my Bronze Medallion which is the level of proficiency required, which gives you the life saving techniques and the first aid training. But it is great socially and keeps you very fit. If you're after a slower paced lifestyle and a warmer, dryer climate then Perth is the place, there is a good expat community here in the Northern suburbs, along with the Saffers (South Africans). House prices are lower than the east coast but are catching up, it still is (I think) the cheapest mainland state in the country. If you're after a faster paced lifestyle the maybe Sydney or Melbourne, but you will pay for it.

Because of internet access, many opportunities to earn income can now be in regional areas. The advantages for families are much more relaxed lifestyle in regional areas and reduced cost of housing.

A lot of folk say theres no point learning to swim I dont go in the water. The point about kids learning to swim early or any other safety and awareness courses is not that they need to because for their particular lifestyle its necessary. Its for that one ocasion where you may end up in a situation where that knowledge may save your life. Bushwalking Fishing boating falling into water. Its learning a useful skill and preventing accidents.

NZ is just a 3hr flight "across the ditch" as we Aussies and Kiwi's call it. South East Asia, and the Polynesian Islands of the South Pacific are not far away, especially if your living in the top end.

People on the east coast often visit New Zealand. Not as much from the west coast because of the distance. People here more commonly holiday in Bali as it's relatively cheap, but it's common for people to visit other parts of Asia - Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, etc. So you might no have easy access to Europe but you do have relatively easy access to Asia. As for jobs, if you have skills or are willing to work in a lower skilled job, it's not that hard to find work. As she said there are plenty of jobs in hospitality, tourism, retail, call centres etc. that will hire people with little experience if they have the right attitude. In my experience companies don't discriminate against foreign workers. It really depends on the job, on how big the pool of applicants is, on your skills, on how soon they need someone to start. Plenty of companies sponsor people's visas so they can come to Australia because they struggle to find people with certain skills or experience here.

One of the things I reacted to is the amount of planning they did before arriving - looking for jobs ahead of time stood out to me. Relocating to any new country is a fascinating mix of, "I think I might like that culture and national structure better than mine, " blended with an equal measure of, "Life is life no matter where you go." Wherever you live, you need work, a place to live, and a feeling like life in general is working out ok. People that jump to other countries will often just decide after a surface-scratch that oh hey, this would be great. Sometimes it is, sometimes not - you ultimately never know until you end up in your new place whether it's good for you, BUT... you improve your chances of a good life by checking out the mundane side of it ahead of time. In my case, I am ex-USA and moved to Norway 14 years ago, never looked back and now there's no way I'd ever return there. If somebody told me I couldn't live here anymore and had to find a new country, just purely for a cultural fit I think Australia would be near or at the top of my list. "No-nonsense for good and bad, but mostly good" makes a solid foundation to build a life on unless one is a whiny little bitch. :-D

Indonesia is a 1 hr flight from Darwin. Australia's population is 30M. The UK is 68M. The land area of Australia is 7,688,287km2 and the UK's is 241,930 Km2 or 3% the size of Australia. The UK is densely populated. Australia is sparsely populated. It is hardly surprising that public transport and the roads network reflects that.

I obtained my Bronze Star medallion in Life Saving while at school, it was a sport option. Both of my children started swimming lessons at 3. Before then we taught them in our pool at home. My daughter was the youngest in Squads by about 2 years. My son did Nippers, preferring the more varied activities & it was fantastic! Even if parents don’t enjoy swimming, kids need the skill. Why restrict them from enjoying our waterways? Why not give them the skills needed to potentially save themselves or others?

My wife's school interviewed a teacher from South Africa (via Zoom) to come and work with them. As he had the right visa to work in Australia before he (and his family) arrived he was able to interview and they were able to hire him. They landed, found a place to live and started a new life here with employment from the beginning.

Ben Nevis is the highest Mt in the UK at 1,345m and Mt Kosciusko in Oz shit's all over that at 2,228m, nearly twice the height. Tassie's one big mountain and you can't go more than 115k from the ocean. Can't get lost either, just keep turning left.

Indian restaurants are owned by Indians from many regions of India, and they have discovered what dishes sell here and which ones are less popular. Naturally, with our wide range of food cultures, (and I mean from every part of the globe), we have very different palates from those in the UK.

It depends on what you do for a job as to whether its easy or not. Hospitality is a walk in, they always seem to be screaming for workers. Wifey's pub closed the kitchen because they advertised for 6 months and basically no one applied. We always had people from all over the world in civil construction and thats one job you can start as a labourer and move up as you learn. Us Aussies are pretty picky these days and there's lots of jobs that a lot of Aussies just don't want to do.

And a great tradition is the 'roadie' (road trip). My son absolutely loves going on a road trip. I am a single mum, so I do all the driving, but nothing beats the drive down the east coast of Australia! I drove 2 of my children from Brisbane to Tasmania (took the car over on the Spirit of Tasmania from Melbourne (very large ferry) and back. They loved it (well it was good for them, anyway😂🤣). Lovely to explore the country and all the country towns along the way. Also check out Tasmania! And I love the Blue Mountains. Only 2 hours from Sydney by train

It's easy if you are skilled in areas where there is a lack of people, like anything medical. Britain had India as part of the Commonwealth and many Brits lived there, so Indian food became the most popular. Here in Australia, the Chinese were here early, so we had a taste for Chinese food before anything else. Indian food came much later. Look at the Australian government site re immigration and look for preferred jobs. We have a shortage of many kinds of workers. If your skills fall on that list, you're in. Most Australians go to Bali in Indonesia for a cheap holiday. NZ is cheap, too, and only a few hours away. NZ is amazingly beautiful.

Brother There is a great channel called the Johnston life. Ross and his wife are former British people who moved to my state of Queensland during COVID. Hes a school teacher and he gives a lot of tips and ideas on All the red tape behind moving to Australia.especially for uk citizens. Youre such a likeable bloke ,id love to see you at least holiday here. We need people like you who want to come here and make a real go of it. People who are happy to just be happy and accept us for who we are and build a bright successful future here. Mostly Shanghai and Beijing but worked and travelled to a lot of places in the Coal Mining Regions (Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Ningxia and Shaanxi provinces) Great food, great people and great infrastructure.

I was part of the "nippers" and what you saw was a "Beach Flags" competition which is like musical chairs where there is 1 less flag than competitor per round until the final that you saw on the video. Surf Lifesaving in Australia is hard work and you must earn your Bronze Medallion first, I'm sure there are many videos on KZbin about SLS competitions and shows like Bondi Rescue of course.

You can only work in Australia if you are approved for the correct visa for your purposes. Work means both paid and unpaid, helping out friends and volunteering, none of which you can do on a tourist visa!

I started travelling internationally when i lived in Darwin in the Northern Territory. We would holiday in Thailand, Singapore and Asia in general as it was actually cheaper flights then traveling to the other end of Australia. We are just not close to America and Europe in general. We do have mountains - we have the great dividing range. To get good Indian or Chinese food in Australia you need to leave South Australia, in my experience, their idea of Indian and Chinese cuisine is just plain weird and not authentic. Best Indian and Asian food i have had is still in Darwin but then that is not surprising we have a large Asian population.

There are thousands of Australians are living in tents, in cars, under bridges, etc. etc. etc. and hospitals and schools are becoming overwhelmed by the huge numbers arriving.

Getting a job as a migrant depends entirely on your profession/trade, the acceptance of your qualifications here and if you have a potential employer advocating for you and of course your English language ability. In virtually every "skill shortage" identified area ( which your visa is also dependent on) you will find work quickly especially if you are prepared to be flexible about WHERE you live/work. ( the skills in demand list is on the DFAT Govt. website).

Very important note: when you visit ocean beaches around Australia, make sure to swim only where lifeguards are on patrol and always swim between the red and yellow flags because they are marking the safe section of the beach. Outside that, you will get caught in a rip and exhaust yourself, trying to fight against the dangerous current while the shoreline gets further away! STAY BETWEEN THE FLAGS!

I have heard that some businesses are hesitant to hire uk citizens as they believe they are only here for a short period of time on a working holiday visa. I think if you make it clear you are relocating and not just on a working holiday you will have more luck. Then the usual skills and experience will also come into play.

In Victoria it is compulsory for all kids to learn how to swim, all kids do swimming lessons as part of their school curriculum during school time. Work/life balance here is second to none & outdoor activities are a must 🇦🇺❤️🦘💪

If you have obtained a right to work in Australia any job is open to you. Even if you apply from overseas you still have to have obtained that right before you can start. I suppose if you were a high flyer and an Australian company wanted you they would probably work through all that for you.

Be careful choosing an agent because not all of them do the job properly. I’ve seen episodes of Border Security where some people have got the wrong visa and they are sent back to where they came from, thousands of dollars lost because they didn’t have the right paperwork!

Australia has a very big labour shortage which is getting worse by the day. It’s very easy to emigrate to Australia and get a job if you can find somewhere to live. Australia has a chronic housing shortage which is getting worse as more people emigrate to Australia. There aren’t enough people to build new houses for the population that we have now. Oops! I think Australia has bitten itself on the bum
