Love DCI! Carolina Crown is famous for having the best most powerful brass. Their 2013 show is my all time favorite!

I know a lot of people in crown and because I live in Fort Mill (the town were they are located) and I live near many members. I see them coming home from camp when I’m driving home from work. Also no disrespect but I’m guessing she doesn’t really know anything about anything marching related 😂. Once again no disrespect and I could be wrong but I appreciate the review anyways.

I can't believe I'm watching reactions to DCI. Long time coming, I guess. I've been watching DCI and attending shows since the 70's. The level of mastering this art is now off the charts. With that said, the 1980 Bridgemen show is still my favorite. It was just total coolness. Coolness is not scored, but remembered.

Y’all need to see this live. You said you’re not far from Pennsylvania, there’s a big regional show in Allentown every year in August. You should go. You think you get goosebumps from watching a video? It’s nothing like experiencing it in person.

When it comes to designing shows of this caliber, many Corps' design teams take multiple years to think of and come up with all of these crazy ideas. So much behind the scenes work to get all of this to come to fruition. So glad yall are reacting to DCI, my favorite hobby/activity to ever exist. Hope to see more from yall!

Fun fact: at 12:46, in the snare feature on the platform, the player in the front row furthest from the camera (so, to audience left) was only SIXTEEN at the time! There's video of him at a camp in 2011, playing with the battery and hanging on show music...at THAT young of an age. Brandon Olander is a Blue Devil legend...3 championships (would've been 4 -- a very exclusive club -- had he taken 2016 off instead of 2017), 2 individual/ensemble wins, center snare (section leader) the last 2 years in 2018 and 19, on the percussion staff 2021-23.

So these groups, Blue Devils, Santa Clara Vanguard, etc. They only practice this show on the field for roughly three months. The audition process and music learning are done from November to February-March. They corps move in usually in may or April and have the time till June to have their show on the field, And the other rehearsals during the season which the season lasts from late June to Early August is for cleaning the show and music on the field so they do better at each competition. The finals for these groups,(there is alot of them) is in Indianapolis, Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium

There's a corps that scored higher than the Blue Devils here. In fact, it was 99.something--by the Phantom Regiment when their show was Spartacus--the highest score ever. A free history lesson here: back when I first started attending DCI performances locally, they had the instruments in the "pit" made in a smaller version, and the players carried them like drums--a small xylophone.

This is a crazy rabbit hole…Santa Clara Vanguard in 89 did Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera! If you know the music,it is a must see! These young people learn a new show to near perfection every single year! I also highly recommend the Cadets performing Angels and Demons!

Did Blue Devils deserve to win? Yes! But the score was escalated because the judges boxed themselves in earlier. I saw plenty of things where 10ths could be taken off. The playing is amazing, but the hardest musical sections they were standing still as opposed to moving in drill. My caption is color guard (and I play euphonium,) there was a clear shot of a girl pairing with a guy in arabesque and her turn out just wasn’t there. There’s so many more moments that could have been clearer, but… that’s the way the scores bounce!

I was at finals this year and the video doesn’t do the show justice. It was incredible to watch and listen to. iirc, the only thing that kept BD from a perfect score was drums. They won every caption otherwise…

If you want to see some DCI storytelling. There's two great shows I seriously recommend. Phantom Regiment 2008 - Spartacus Madison Scouts 2013 - Corps of Brothers (75th anniversary)

So. Your observation at around 9:03. Not so fun story there. Apparently one of the members got seriously- I mean SERIOUSLY- injured - during a show or a rehearsal on that toss. She was to catch it blind (that is, turned AWAY from the direction of the toss!), and the rifle hit a vertebra. Twitter at the time had a message showing her in a neck brace. DCI *can* be a seriously dangerous activity, just like any other sport. That is isn't considered a "sport" is another conversation, but damn. My high school had a whole former DCI staff for our marching band. It was INSANE what we were asked to do. These are NOT safe moves and you HAVE TO know what you're about when you field this kind of show. Fortunately, we never had any serious injuries, but that's totally possible when you're doing this sort of show.
