Françoise Hardy also sang songs written by Serge Gainsbourg and Michel Berger. In nearly sixty years of career, she has released a total of 28 albums. In the 60s and 70s, many artists of all nationalities wanted to meet her. David Bowie and Mick Jagger fell in love with her. During a concert, Bob Dylan learns that Françoise Hardy is in the place and refuses to go on stage until she comes to the dressing room to meet him. Bands like Eurythmics and Placebo have covered many of her songs. The most impressive thing is that Françoise Hardy has always remained discreet and humble and that she has never been aware of her inner or physical beauty which has triggered passions all these years. It is a great sadness that her death causes but also, I am sure, a love that will continue for a very long time.

So glad you reviewed a francoise hardy song! She has a simply incredible discography! She worked with an amazing variety of musicians and styles. I hope you do more from her later on when she moved beyond her early ye ye period. There's so much there. A couple of good followups are Message personel from '73, and "Comment te dire adieu" from '68.

As part of a French conversation group that I run we always listen to a French song. Normally it’s one of the great singers such as Charles Trenet, Edith Piaf or Jaques Brel, with their poetic songs filled with feeing, which we don’t really have an equivalent to in English. However next week, to mark her passing , it’s Françoise Hardy’s ‘La Maison où j’ai grandi’. A more pop French song you might want to try is ‘Joe le taxi’ by Vanessa Paradis - very cool.

I first heard her sing "All over the World" an English version of her French hit. I'd never heard a young French singer before, certainly at that point. I loved its wistfullness and charm. You should review that? As it's in English. Her looks were definitely 'a look' of the 60s. She had been fighting throat cancer, and I recently saw an interview from just a while back and she seemed to have beaten it. Well as we know she didn't, and her death quite moved me. I don't know why as I hadn't really thought about her in decades.

I'm going to tell you an anecdote about Françoise Hardy at the time yéyé, she was really a very pretty woman, Mike Jagger and David Bowie were madly in love with her and asked her to be their girlfriend which she refused because she was the girlfriend of Jacques Dutronc a French singer, Bod Dylan on tour at the Olympia in Paris in 1966 refused to perform if she did not join him in his dressing room, warned Françoise Hardy joined him, a journalist asked him what that it had happened in the dressing room, she replied, "nothing, he was so drunk that I would be surprised if he remembered that I joined him in his dressing room"

This song dates back to the 1960's, one of Françoise Hardy's first hits really. FYI, Françoise Hardy passed away a few days ago (June 11, 2024).
