As a swede who has has a strong penchant for British humour I would say that Alan Partridge, the works of Chris Morris, Blackadder, The IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and The Office are some of the modern pillars of (slightly different kinds of) brilliant comedy.

Other British shows that I've seen on TV over here in Sweden (other than Monty Python) are; Fawlty Towers, 'Allo 'Allo!, Keeping Up Appearances, The Black Adder, Black Books, Father Ted, The IT Crowd, Peep Show, The Inbetweeners, Green Wing, Benny Hill, Mr Bean, Coupling, The Office and Little Britain. I may have missed some, but I think that gives you a pretty good idea of what type of humour we enjoy over here.

As a Swede, I would say he looks like a Danish person or a person south of Sweden. A Norwegian person, especially girls have a more round face and people from Finland have stronger characteristics. But it small differences and most people probably think we all look the same.

I kinda agree. I wouldn't think of it if I saw him on the street but in this context when he is supposed to "represent" Sweden / swedishness, I would say that he gives off danish vibes appearance wise

The 10'th season of Bäst I Test (Best In Test) as it's called in Sweden started last Friday. Fun show and we have a similar test but he's from Iceland, impossible to understand as a Swede without any knowledge of Icelandic!!

A more modern one we got here was QI. They tried to make a Swedish version but that bombed. Snacka om nyheter was a successful adaption of a HIGNFY. It stopped airing in the nineties as the host died. It didn't feel right to continuing.

I watch Would I lie to you, 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown, Big fat quiz and more like those. Brits and Swedes I think have quite similar senses of humour, a bit self deprecating, dry and a wee bit bizarre. Many of us grew up watching Faulty Towers and Monty Python on Swedish TV.

IIRC the rules are, they can do / use anything that the rules specific not disallowed. Since the letter never said that she couldnt use the phone to call a friend or the dictionary, its ok.

"The Inbetweeners" and of course "The Office" are great. I have tried watching "Peep Show" cause I love Olivia Colman, but that was not my thing. "Fawlty Towers" and "Mr. Bean" were huge in Sweden in the 90s. Not sure that they have aged all that well. :)

In addition to what others have said here about "Bäst i test", Best in test, our version of taskmaster. I would actually say that the swedish version is better. Our taskmasters assistant is brilliant. He is so amazingly anoying to all the contestants. Commenting on what they are doing in an extremely clever and insulting way. Every now and then you see some of the contestants just stop what they are doing and glare at him. :)

The brits bought the license for this program from Sweden. As for British comedy shows that at least I like a few come to mind. Monty Python, Qi, Fawlty Towers, Keeping Up Appearances, Mr Bean, Top gear/the grand tour, Only fools and horses, The Vicar of Dibley and my favorite British stand-up comedian is Michael McIntyre. Just to name what I can think of right now.

British Taskmaster is the original one. Alex Horne is the creator of the show. The swedish production company bought the licence from british Taskmaster.

I'm swede and love all the classic of British humour; Not nine a clock news, Black adder, Monty Python, Beny Hill, Falwty tower, Mr Bean and The young ones. A litle bit more modern are the Litle Britain, wich I also love. We have a similar pair of comedian, doing a show and the most of the writing and role acting called Hipp hipp, but it was a few years before Litle Britain.

The "I have a friend who knows danish, I think it's the same thing" HAD ME! 🤣🤣😵 It's such an offensive thing to hear as a swede 😂 (no offense to the danish people tho, but I know you get it. We don't understand you the way you understand us) 😅. I'm kinda shook that he didn't have a more visual reaction when she said that. I was not offended by that at all, actually, and I'm not sure why I would be. I think Danish is similar enough to be a Swedish dialect. It's hard for many Swedes to understand, but so are a few Swedish dialects.

Not offensive statement, more amusingly clueless! Would a British english speaking person have 0 difficulties understanding a person from the USA, with a very extreme southern dialect for example? Or a Scottish pronunciation? I read Danish very well! But understanding spoken Danish required more concentration and practice, this is due to things like very differently pronounced words. And same goes for the Danish if you speak Swedish to them. 😉🇩🇰🇸🇪

The Swedish version of Taskmaster (Bäst i test) is funny, but quite lame compared to the british, New Zeelandish (word?), Danish and so on versions. It's adapted for the whole family, so it's quite PG, so to speak.

I really dont like the swedish version of taskmaster. Mostly because havent liked many Swedish comedians since Grotescos days. Id lie if i said there are none i like. But most i do like are more or less underground artists and groups. The mainstream ones are to woody. I fear both Swedens and Brittains golden age in comedy is behind us. Perhaps when more liberal winds blow again?..
