I love that you acknowledge Joe Wicks clearly just misspoke a bit and use it as a jumping off point for conversation. So many "creators" would be getting hysterical and inflaming anger about it for views, and I love that you guys are so much better than that! Also I'd 100% have all the Mars ice creams too and I'm not even meant to have dairy 😂

ADHDers not only tend to binge/crave foods more due to dopamine seeking, but they are also much more biologically sensitive to the effects that food has on us. Things like hormonal and blood sugar fluctuations from things like forgetting to eat all day then eating a ton in one go, having unbalanced meals i.e. eating sugar/refined carbs without protein and fat (basically our unhealthy modern eating habits) are WAYYY more pronounced compared to neurotypical people and exacerbate ADHD symptoms.

@@laceyl5682 yep, not only the sugar highs but also the massive crashes too, which can result in irritability, anger, depression. Eating more protein and healthy fats (which as a society we are doing less than in the past) will help stabilise those blood sugar fluctuations

This has been going on for several years now, we're in our mid-late 30s and have been together for over a decade. The only solution I was able to find was to buy multipacks of fun-sized chocs. @oolala53
@oolala53 7 ай бұрын
When you really get that the pain of giving something up won’t really be as bad as the pain of overdoing something you either feel or know is hurting more than helping ( with admitted pleasure,) it gets easier to face down the withdrawal. I do use stevia but have had very few days since 1/1/20 with more than 10 g of sugar. This was after decades of struggle, but more from the vantage point of hating my body and wanting to lose weight, but I clamped down on that at age 56. I still ate sweets, but was able to learn to limit them to weekends and a couple of celebratory days a month but I realize that I didn’t enjoy them that much in small quantities and I kept hearing of people who gave up desserts and such and felt very free. Since 2020 was the beginning of a new decade, I decided that would be my decade of experiment. I probably couldn’t have thought in those terms when I was in my 30s, but I was older and realize that I’d already had more sugar than most previous humans had had and more than one lifetime. I honestly can’t see any big reason to have it besides a few bites on Thanksgiving or Christmas time. Flour foods are another story. I just went for blood test today. I’m now age 70, and those numbers have become a lot more important to me because I have less time to correct problems. I know you is not actually very motivated by the prospect of old age, but your senior yourself will definitely thank you for being willing to go through those incredibly irritating urges to eat food with very little nutrition but lots of dopamine reward.

for me its not the sugar that I crave or something, Im just, I forgot the whole day that I need to eat, than Im hungry whats the easiest fastest way to get over with this, so a bar of chocolate won often. But its also bad for the stomach and everything , high bloodsugar and what not. Nowadays I found some other ways to have easy food in reach, shakes and some kitchen changes like a rice cooking machine, but its still a pain. but "quitting sugar" without an alternative would not have helped a bit. Unfortunately there is no professional help for these problems, all dietary consultants I spoke with are only specialized on people who eat too much, no one is there for the adhd I forgot eating and run on cheese and chocolate while being actually underweight crowd

I've had eating disorders for decades. I can't have any treats in the house, or anything that gives me that high, or I'll eat all of it. Even things like gr bagels, I can't have because I'll use them as a vessel for peanut butter and eat two or three in an evening. The temptation is too great so I only buy a small singular treat a couple of times a week. I've almost managed to cut out crisps. I now only have lentil chips things and I make sure I only buy a small packet. I can't have biscuits or crackers and I can't keep ingredients for baking, as I'll cook and eat an entire bake. So many with adhd end up with prediabetes or diabetes... stinks and we don't want to deal with it but it truly can make a huge health changes not just mood/ mental challenges as health struggles with high insulin are many including eyesight and cardiac issues. Is sugar the cause of ADHD- no but it can exacerbate many issues that make life harder. So (and I hope Roxanne sees this cause I'd love her opinion) excess sugar intake, excess alcohol, excess substances can have a very similar effect on me and my decision making. Only difference is I'm more "aware" of my behaviour and thought process if it's only sugar. I'm currently 2 years sober from Alcohol and 3 years sober from drugs but need to be very careful when it comes to sugar consumption as it can produce similar effects to me drinking and drugging. I have tried to quit sugar altogether and it's like all the colour is turned off from my life, add to this I also have autism and a lot of comfort or safe food is packed with sugar. Cutting down on sugar makes me feel as though I have my ADHD more under control than normal and can give me a more streamlined less boxed in hyper focus but those hyper focuses aren't always as lucid as what they have been. I call them blurry hyper focus (like Im in a hyper focus but squinting throughout)

😂 I used ro go through a four pack of chunky KitKats daily, no exaggeration! I soon started to smell a bit yeasty so I got scared and quit. The smell disappeared after a few days 😂 I went on a low carb diet for a couple of years and found my thinking, energy, skin, weight etc massively improved. I was probably more hyper though after the first 10 days. It was one of those duets where you fast from all carbs, dairy, gluten for 10 days followed by a carb feast the eve of the 10th day where you eat what you like until full then you're back to carb fasting for 4 days and so the cycle continues. It was excellent until Christmas then I'd fall off the wagon over Christmas then start back up a few days after new years. I soon started to make my carb feasts much healthier and found that worked even better for my health as a whole. I couldn't sustain it though so I switched to the Mediterranean diet which is much better.

I just cant keep food around me, just bread, ham, etc. Foods like that i wont really want to bother eating when im craving dopamine but i could eat like 3 bags of potato chips in one go all gone completely gone. These big bags of chips just demolished... all my life ive been like this, food is my enemy, i cant lose weight woth food like that around so i just dont buy it (untill i cave in eventually and binge...) i used to eat so much a kid as well, just the same. I think i need meds. But havent yet been diagnosed even my therapist thinks i have it, i think i have it, now juzt waiting forever to see a psychatrist. Combined adhd but without too much hyperactiviry, or well i get more hyper active and loud when i ceel genuibely happy but am also depressed so idk anymore, usually just feel really spacey forgetful, etc calling myzelf stupid and other things cuz i could never do my homework untill it was the last hour before sometimes i had to hand it in after rushing it so quickly lol... yup.

I notice alot of times it seems like you all are sat down, with a camera on each of you having a talk. Is this a free form conversation you chunk up for tiktkok, ig etc as a method of content creation Or is the long form content available elsewhere and these are the highlights? Cause i would love longer content from you all.

I was told by my psychiatrist that I have a strange relationship with food. He could not elaborate further. 😂 Ohh the sugary stuff, demolishing a whole 'share' pack of things, but I'm too busy and tied up with my special interest to eat. I have foods that are special interests too just like hobbies, cherryade, spearmint chews, Frys chocolate creams to name but a few from the mammoth list, anything and everything but always sweet.

So i dont actually know what he said bur still, i take any and all food advice with a grain of salt. Literally everyones nutrition needs are different, the same with ADHD. The issue with someone like Joe Wicks misspeaking is that his words have power and i know that people will follow his words, intentional or not, as gospal. I love the conversation around food and ADHD cause it is important. But id advise extreme caution around someone blaming or intending to insinuate that sugar worsens ADHD, as if it didnt fuck with everyone lol.

Just a thought that the brain needs glucose to function and our adhd brains are higher-powered so they need more glucose than others. Shame our pancreas and genes (in my case my fat cells) might not get the memo.
