Ha some of these are great. I love spinning round the diagnostic criteria, it really hits home how the phrasing can be really othering!

I'm finding the typicals that I know don't seem to be very aware of others feelings, if they do, they're not caring. Whereas I pay attention to tones and facial and know whether they're hurting or angry or whatever. My point is, I think the dsm5 has to be revamped.

What would be the response to your question outlined in the title?

Criteria seems to be for the doctors, not the patients.

Just to make things even more complicated, highly sensitive people (people with high sensory processing sensitivity) are also neurodivergent.

I hate to say it I don't think neurotypical exists! For example if a child is loud it's a problem, if a child is quiet it's still a problem. Why can't we all be humans again. We all have different personalities with opinions with likes and dislikes. Alot of people think I'm autistic because I love music and play the piano without reading the music plus I'm quite shy with people.

I do wonder how this concept will evolve over time. Interesting that people have concluded that playing piano without reading music = autistic. I'm autistic and I read fluently haha...

There are other meanings to "typical" besides "normal", such as "common", "vulgar" and "insignificant". Besides the other name for being a neurotypical is neuroconformal - blend in, don't stick out, UNLESS a higher social position allows somewhat more freedom. P.S. I'm not preaching neurodivergent supremecy! Some of the best and dearest people I've ever known are neurotypicals. World needs us and them, as we have sifferent strenghts and weaknesses, thus we can complete each other and bring our strengths in situations, where the other neurotype might struggle.

Definitely agree on the fact that the world needs both us and them! We have so many complimentary strengths and the world would be such a better place if we were all embraced! Can you elaborate on contexts where "typical" means "vulgar"?

Some people with personality disorders prefer to get diagnosis like ADHD and bipolar for some reason

They're more socially acceptable and "redeemable" than something like borderline or narcissistic personality disorder. BPD and NPD are very difficult to treat and often demonized. So if a person with NPD or BPD has some overlapping traits with ASD and ADHD, they can use those as masks to cloak themselves and have a fallback explanation for when the mask slips.
