That sounds is "cuíca" it is like a drum, but there is a stick attached inside of it connected to the leather and you put your hand inside and rubber that stick with a piece of cloth (or a cotton). And in the other side there is a string that is used to change the pitch. Hope I described that right.

Jorge Ben Jor is a treasure of Brasilian music. My favourite album is 1974's "A Tábua de Esmeraldas". From the first to the last song, its the dopest mix between samba, rock and Occultism/Hermeticism Highly recommend this album. You'll go nuts with every song. this song is a club classic even outside Brazil - I'm sure someone has already mentioned Rod Stewart stealing the chorus. Jorge Ben had a good 15-20 years of putting just solid monster records, you've probably heard Mas Que Nada, there are a lot of US covers of that one. You could say his lyric choices are interesting sometimes, but you can see a lot of the time it doesn't really matter what he's singing. This song is off his Africa Brasil LP, it's straight bangers from start to finish. Check out Umbabarauma (Ponta de Lança Africano) and Xica da Silva, those are dope as hell too.

And, then, when you hear it you'll understand why it's so important for black people in Brazil. The song became famous with Sandra de Sá. I strongly advise it. Wow! Happy to watch this! KZbin stopped showing me your vids, but I had asked for a Jorge Ben reaction as well. Do more of him, his song Zumbi talks about slavery and the different African tribes that were brought to Brazil to be sold.
