Hi travis and suzy, I am taking you down the Jouney rabbit hole again. This video includes one of the original singers greg rollie and steve perry who was still fairly new. I love the contrast in their voices and thought this was a great sound for journey. Greg rollie was originally in Santana along with neil schon. Greg left journey soon after steve perry's arrival as he was tired of touring and wanted to get away from hard Rock and roll life. Got to love the clothes and the hair in the 70s . Love you guys susa (rhymes with appaloosa :-) )

Absolutely. I recently read that Steve Perry fired drummer Steve Smoth, who played on their albums Escape and Fromtiers. Smith now leads a jazz band called Vital Information.

Gregg Rolie was just so go in Journey. Yeah Steve Perry has a better singing voice… duh…. But I just dug it when Gregg would sing. All those early Santana albums & Journey’s first 7 albums with Gregg , so good.

For me, without question, Journey's three best albums were: * Infinity (1978) * Evolution (1979) * Departure (1980) The songs from these great albums featured Steve Perry, Gregg Rolie, and Neal Schon at their peak. "Just The Same Way" is from the "Evolution" album. Other noteworthy songs from this album include: * "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" * "Too Late" * "City Of The Angels"

You need to hear the 1980 live in Osaka version. This one cuts off Neal's guitar solo and there's an incredible vocal from SP singing along with the guitar at the end and hitting a gorgeous, sustained B5 twice. Of all the impressive things I've heard him sing, that blew my mind the most.

First off, so glad I was a teen in the late 70's early 80's. We got to go see these bands live for like $25. Best years ever. Some info: Journey was formed in February 1973 by lead guitarist Neal Schon with bassist Ross Valory, rhythm guitarist George Tickner and drummer Prairie Prince, who were joined by keyboardist and vocalist Gregg Rolie in the summer before debuting live on New Year's Eve 1973. During a performance before about 100,000 at Soldier Field in Chicago, the band was introduced to Steve Perry. Differences between Fleischman and manager Herbie Herbert resulted in Fleischman's departure from the band in September of that year. Journey hired Steve Perry as their new lead singer on October 10, 1977. Why did Steve Perry quit Journey? They presented him with an ultimatum: If he did not undergo hip replacement surgery so the tour could proceed upon his recovery, the band would hire a replacement singer. Still hesitant to undergo surgery, and now upset at his bandmates, Perry announced that he was permanently leaving Journey.

First went under the name Golden Gate Rhythm Section because they were planning to be studio musicians for other recording groups. One year later (late 1974) "journey" went into the studios to record their own tracks and by this time the great Ansley Dunbar took over on drums, their first album was released in spring '75.
