Thanks for all your reactions to Zeppelin. I lost my son, 19 years old, two years ago. I am so sad, so inconsolable. When I was teenager I listen Zeppelin for first time, but now I,am very much fan than then, because when I saw the videos, and I listen again his music, I,m return to the happyness time, and I enjoyed to much, much than ever, more and more every day. They are drug for me. Of course, by my generation, all the good music like me. But now I'm love with Zeppelin. Thanks again

One of my favorite Zeppelin songs. About 20 years ago I had to go to California on a business trip, first time there was very excited. I brought this song with me. Made sure I rented a convertible. I had a 2 Hour drive from Oakland airport up to Petaluma and I turn this song on, and what an experience to listen to the song driving through California seeing the rock formations in the ocean driving by the vineyards it was amazing.

There are certain high end microphones of that time, just like guitars, and certain amplifiers, that had a certain quality or accidental quality of metals used in the wiring, or coils of the device picking up the vibrations. There are certain 70s items like mics, guitars, amps, ect. that we will never get magic mixture again.
@helenespaulding75622 жыл бұрын
Jimmy usually, from what I’ve read, worked out his tunings and melodic lines on acoustic first. He loved playing acoustic….and I understand he still plays his acoustic at 77

i saw them twice in the 70s in the uk and both times they played an acoustic set in the middle of the gigs, even bonzo used to sit with them and play bongos, it made for an imtimate atmosphere, before getting back to the head banging... magic nights....peace....Tim
@Bluewizard71312 жыл бұрын
It's not just the microphones from back then, but the preamp and signal chain that it connects to. The older stuff from this era uses a lot of tube amps and preamps which have a much warmer sound than much the digital equipment used today. You can still get great sound from today's mics, but if not careful you end up with a much more sterile or cold sound than you did with the older equipment.
@henriettaskolnick44452 жыл бұрын
They did enjoy the acoustic part of their performances; they got to sit and bring it all down to a more intimate atmosphere. They stopped for a while because the venues they were playing got to be so big, that it started to get a bit lost amongst the huge crowd of people. Robert still does a lot of posing/posturing in concert with his hands; it's just part of his stage presence.

All this acoustic set in Earls Court is fantastic: "Going to California", "That's the Way" and "Bron-y-Aur Stomp". The electric "Trampled Underfoot" and "In My Time of Dying" are fine too. This is one of the best performances of Led Zeppelin captured live on video, even though Plant has already lost some of his vocal range (his vocal peak was from 68 to 71, then started to fall)

Oh they definitely took as much pride in their acoustic sections of a concert. The acoustic songs from this footage at Earls Court really show this side of them perfectly. Theyve got great versions of That's The Way and especially Bron Yr Aur Stomp from these gigs up. The only shame is they haven't got an acoustic version of Jimmy's Indian inspired solo epic White Summer up, only the electric performance from the Royal Albert Hall show (still worth watching and highlights Jimmy's skill with alternate guitar tunings, this one using the DADGAD tuning he made famous)

Yes, after Levee Breaks, go ahead snd take a bit of a break from your album journey and watch a few live gems. Certainly the other two acoustic numbers from this same concert, and then move to any song from the 1970 Royal Albert Hall concert, or more of the songs from MSG 73 that are from their first four albums that you haven’t yet seen live…whole Lotta Love is great, Rock and Roll is a romp. Since I’ve Been Living You is almost required viewing. I’m starting to forget which ones you’ve already done live…. But you get the idea! 😁

After LZ finished, in the 1990s Robert Plant and Jimmy Page got together again and did an accoustic tour. Robert once said that he offered to continue playing with Page if it was on an accoustic basis, but he said 'Page walked away' from that. So in answer to your question about whether they enjoyed accoustic performances as much as non-accoustic ones, I'd say definitely for Plant but Page wouldn't want to be restricted to accoustic only. I'm sure JPJ enjoys playing anything as he's so flexible musically. To be fair to Robert at that stage I think he didn't feel his voice was up to full tours of heavy rock singing and he very much liked variety of music anyway rather than to keep repeating what they had done in the past. He didn't like the lifestyle of LZ big tours and all the hype that went with it and he felt LZ would never be the same without his friend John Bonham. He'd grown older and moved on musically.

Mic's got a LOT worse. Analogue vs. Digital. Had this conversation with Bryan Adams in his Vancouver studio. He's got an epic mic collection. Mic technology peaked around the late 50s swing Jazz vocal era, and guys like Miles Davis benefited a lot from that.
@glass24672 жыл бұрын
The vintage mics are used today in the best studios. Mics back in the 40s and 50s were the best. What they used to record Frank Sinatra and the other classic singers. Today's top mics are not necessarily an improvement on the best of the classic mics. This is also true of guitar amps and guitars. Vintage is the best sound. The mics LZ used on stage were probably not that great though.

The live versions are ALWAYS better, as it shows their true virtuosity and ability to improvise. Solos on live versions are always unique. Studio versions are always clean and mixed to perfection, but live versions are insanely better. For one thing, they didn't have tone correction is 70's mics. You're looking at real talent here

I would assume the mic quality of that era is just as good as what there is now ..It probably had been researched and tested so many times by then to get the best quality that it made a superior standard product that was hard to improve on . Gibson Les Paul and Fender Stratocaster guitars probably are not any better that what they were in the 1960s either ..
