Yes, he knew he was dying when the song was recorded. He died less than a month after recording the song. They had to record the song in his living room because he was to ill to go and record the album in a studio. And yes, it was veryyyyy emotional to listen to this song for fans of the band. I was litteraly sobbing when I first listen to the song (and tears are still quite near, even after having been circle-listening to the song for a week now, to be honest). Thanks for your reaction to this song !

Thank you for analysing this song. Les Cowboys Fringants weren't only popular in Quebec for the quality of their songs, but also for the message they were spreading in them. Most of their songs talk about the situation the people from Quebec are in. The group was close to the people and the people loved them for it. They never went on TV if they didn't want to. They stayed humble until the end. For me, this song is the perfect goodbye for the singer. If you look up one of their last performance (Festival d'été de Québec 2023), you can see how much the crowd loves them. It was know at the time that he was ill from cancer and that it wasn't going well. They had already cancelled multiple show, but they showed up for this one. Karl was tired and singing while sitting on stage. It was one of the biggest crowd the festival has ever seen. On a personal side, this songs makes me tear up each time, my childhood friend passed away not long after Karl and he was a talented musician as well. So everytime I hear this song, I think about him. Thank you for spreading their song, they deserve so much more recognition on the international level.

I'm from Quebec. He made a last tour in Quebec. Those shows eere historical. He was so generous. I don't know if that summer he knew that it was the last. But it was. In september he made an announcement that he's taking a little break to fight his cancer, but he knew at this time it was the end. The song was write by jeff pause the other member of the group, the violonist is her girlfriend they have 2 liitle girl. The album is a musical comedy from some of the caracters that are in some of the song of the cowboys. When he made this song, it was like a week or 2 before is death. He recorded it in is home.

This album was firstly made from their musical show called Pub Royale and when the singer rerecorded the songs for this album (he only had time to recorded 6) and the singer probably knew he would die when he recorded that song because it was 2 months before his death. If you want to check out Les cheveux blancs it's a song from the same album and it's the lady iin the groupe who's singing (the wife of the singer) and she talks to their daugthers

Exactly very well said lemonpeom. Very sad that he didn't have time to sing the other songs but we can see that Jean-Francois ( The writer) sings very well too. RIP KARL.
That's definitely a ''Lazarus'' type of song, I'm glad he could record it not long before dying, I'm surprised he was still able to put so much energy knowing he was very weak at the time of recording and also, the fact that the top 40 french radio over here are playing that 7 minutes song shows how loved he was, especially considering how a pain it is for them to play a 7 minutes song in a world of 2:30 - 3:00 songs

He kept us crying, laughing, dancing....and hoping for a better futur for us, i'm from saguenay, Quebec. i had the chance to see them twice, and im not particuly a fan but each time i saw them, it was like the night of my life... the energy, the voice, everything... it hit us like a 18 wheeled truck. it is really a big lost for all QUEBECOIS. Knowing he was gonna die, it sure did was hard for him to tell us this lirycs, but he did, and for that, he was the best from us all.

And yeah this feel like David Bowie, I've listened Black Star in loop, like i'm doing with that song (the clip has now more than a million view in only 4 days in a half!!!).

I had only found out about Les Cowboys Fringants five years ago by my ex since he was Québécois. I did listen to their songs here and there and I loved their folk sound since it's a very similar sound to my own culture and country. "Sur mon épaule" is one of my favourites. I have always appreciated how deep their lyrics were when I analysed and listened to most of their song. Very strong messages. I cried when I listened to this song a third time. It hit me hard. The song is a very beautiful memoir after Karl Tremblay's passing. I admire the Pride that the Québécois have for their people and their culture. I do miss it a lot. I hope to come back again one day, hopefully. ❤

I listened to this group all my life while I grew up. Their music gave me so much comfort and strenght. Last summer I was fortunate enough to see them in Rimouski for one of their last shows ever. We sang our hearts out and cried and laughed with them. It was such a powerful moment. This song was like a punch in the gut at first, but after a couple plays, now I just love it so much. RIP Karl and thank you for your unwavering support and generosity. We will miss the Cowboys, but we will never forget yall 💜

A group called : Les 7 doigts de la main was preparing a musical comedy based on the music from Les Cowboys Fringants. JF Pauze, the group’s author was working on creating some new songs for this play. This song was one of them. The musical comedy had its’ debut a few weeks after Karl passed…the name of the play is Pub Royal. It is still playing. By the way, Karl was married to his fellow band member Marie-Anick.

He received his cancer diagnostic in December 2019 just before the pandemic. He knew that he had just a couple of years to live. This song was recorded at his own house just a couple of weeks before he died. I was unable to make it to the studio. Note that he did not write the song. Almost all Cowbows Fringants songs are written by Jean-François Pauzé. His best friend.

it's amasing seeing the effect that this song can make on people who doesnt even know this music group. even if it's not your main langage, u seem to feel it.... Fact: the guy who wrote this song is his best friend . jean-francois pauzé, the guitarist, the guy at 8:14. in fact he's the one who wrote 98% of all the cowboys fringuants songs. how hard it must have been to write this song and produce it with your best friend and his wife, when he is dying of cancer. Long life to the cowboys ! ❤

The signer is Karl Tremblay. He know his die was near. Last summer, fans was so emotive because all people know Karl fight a cancer. This song was saved in house of Karl, after his shows, because he was not in shape to go in a studio. He died in november 2023. This song is on youtube since 3 weeks. If you would like to discover another group of Quebec a suggest you ''Les colocs''. Thanks for your time. Have a nice day.

If you want to hear their "goodbye to fans", the last song in the album is "Merci ben" ... "Merci ben" could be translated to "Thank you very much". The song is a 4-minute-long "thank you... for everything"... The song is more joyful because it talks about fun memories of the band, how they struggled at the beginning (in a light tone), etc. It's my favourite on the album. Also the beat and feel of the song is very "cowboy fringuants". I think it was recorded after Karl's death because he doesn't sing in it... the guitar player/composer JF Pauzé sings most of it, with Marie-Annick singing a part. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnPThH2BbZWeaLM
