They do have a choir they work with regularly, yes - it's the London-based Metro Voices. They've worked with the band on every album since "Once" in 2004 so they're a huge part of the Nightwish history :) Edit: also, I'm fairly sure the layering in first vocal piece has three voices: Floor, Marko and Troy.

I think we need to keep in mind that many of us joined listening to to the Waken 2013 concert which was part of the concert tour for their 2011 "Imaginaeium" album. Tuomas wrote the music for that in 2009 and it was recorded in 2010. So as we listen to it we haveto keep in mind that that music is a decade old. Floor was not a part of the recording of it and it is phenomenal that not having been written for her that she carries it so well. The band then evolves (pardon the pun) with the "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" album which was released in 2015... and then this album "Human :||: Nature" builds on the revious one thematically but the sound has changed and grown again. This is not a band that sits on its laurels. I love the journey they take us on.

When you get to How's the Heart, they have an acoustic version with Troy accompanying Floor on acoustic guitar. I think it is a Planet Rock video. It's a great opportunity to do the lyric video followed by the acoustic stripped down version back-to-back, like the Spiritbox Rule of Nines reaction. Tribal is my favorite, very heavy!. They work with the same orchestra usually, I think it is in London. I believe those symbols are Human Nature in the oldest known language on earth, cuneiform, I think

For the symbols: Yes, Tuomas said in an interview, that the artist who did the cover art searched for the oldest known symbolds for the two words. And I think he also said the orhestra was the same, but they used only the string section for many songs, instead of the whole orchestra. Edit: Yes, same orchestra, but only strings and choir for most songs. Source, where Tuomas also explaines the concept behind the album: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6mvia2Moqx2f6s

This album is the first one where they finally realized the absolute liquid GOLD that they had between Troy, Marko, and Floor, they spend a LOT of time harmonizing as a trio on this album, to brilliant effect. Also, something to be aware of when listening to this album, the name of the game here is: references. You'll see references in the videos, references in the lyrics, references in the melody. They do a TON of referring back and forth between tracks within this album, such as: the carved statue of Pan, the Greek God of creativity, tricks, and theatrics. Pan is also a track in itself. So, as you spend more time with each individual track, I STRONGLY encourage you to take some time to look back and forth, and do some research. Trust me, this album is a glorious fractal of lyrical density. When you think you've made all the connections that Tuomas and the other band members could possibly have referenced? There's not just ONE false bottom, there are three. Just like in the older songs, they WILL have references and "nods" to other musicians. Kai is a particular fan of the band Toto, and in one of the songs (I genuinely forget which) he rips a drum fill that is VERY MUCH in their style of drumming. References, man.

What I find really interesting is that the whole song is seen from the perspective of the music. That music has always been here and has finally become a part of us. Brave to compose such a song. But wonderful. The instrument you see at the beginning and in the middle is a lyre, one of the first man-made instruments, if not the first instrument. And the small pot next to it is the first song recorded by humans. This is how researchers found it. It was even possible to translate and play the song. A great song directly as an opener. and so much more on the rest of the album. it just gets better. Great analysis. I would like to hear from Nightwish several times a week. I'm sure there are several who would like that. Saturdays and Wednesdays maybe? But never mind. In Germany there is a saying: "Gut' Ding will Weile haben". That means as much as: "Good things take time". Keep up the good work :D

I was looking for a comment about this! It’s super ingenious and so typical Tuomas (and a very good way): Writing a song about the history and development of music isn’t enough for him - nooo, he gets the idea of writing it from music’s point of view, like it’s a living entity :) It’s brilliant, and gives the song a whole new dimension, when you know this

The lyre is by far not the oldest man made instrument. That would be flutes. The oldest ones were found in in Germany and are over 35,000 years old. They are also proof that the Homo Sapiens came to Europe before the last Ice Age was even over.

Olga Hein Yes, you’re right, ofc :) However, The Lyres Of Ur, shown in the video, *are* the world’s oldest surviving **stringed instruments.** This had been mentioned numerous times in various comment sections - OP probably just missed/forgot the “string” part of the information, after reading this information somewhere ;) Logically, flutes would of course appear as one of the earliest crafted instruments, since a primitive flute would be relatively easy to make, compared to most other instruments :)

@@michaellein2389 No problem, I think you meant to say what LilleMy wrote. If I could make an observation about your next song off this album, which is Noise. It's a music video this time, and frankly, it is so visually overwhelming that a lot of reactors have real trouble both looking at and understanding the messages while at the same time listening to the music and lyrics. A lot of them just end up looking dazed and confused, like they've been hit in the head with a shovel. Some reactors have done the song twice in the same video, the first time just listening to the song, and then watching the video. They are the ones who seems to get the overall experience best, so you may want to consider that. You are very astute in your observations and appreciation, and very well may be able to handle it properly in a single listening, but I'm afraid you may end up pausing every ten seconds, which may cause some of the more sensitive members of the army to go ballistic on you. Anyway, can't wait. Thanks!

I agree that seeing the video AND trying to watch the music video at the same time, might be overwhelming. I’ve seen several reactors not being able to focus on the music, because they got distracted by the visuals. Someone has already made a lyric video to Noise” here on KZbin (if it hasn’t been taken down) - perhaps Chase could use that for his analysis? It could be fun if he did a “double reaction” to the song - first to the song only (or the lyric video) and then to the music video :)

Great reaction! Warning: this entire album is as much a piece of art as it is a piece of music. Stunning. Also, the band talked a lot about moving away from backing tracks for their vocal layering, and instead using three part harmonies with their live vocals throughout the album. So, any voices you hear are sung live (other than the choir), and typically includes all three singers harmonizing (Floor, Marco, Troy). The talent is simply off the charts. Otherworldly.

Ok, I’m going to have to make another comment, since I’ve been through about 200 comments and didn’t see anybody give you this one geeky piece of information. Floor sings in this very different style on the new album, that’s very different than what we are used to hearing - and I must admit that it threw me off for a minute or two (even though I thought it was beautiful). As I’m sure you’ve noticed, she sings a lot of words in a very short time, and the sentences are often divided in an unusual way in relation to the melody. Also, as you commented on, her “vocal melody” (sorry, I’m no vocal coach) follows the “instrumental melody” much more strictly than it usually does. This way of singing is actually ancient, and is the oldest proper singing technique that we know of - and is also very hard to do (at least that’s what Floor has said, and if *she* finds it hard, it must be near impossible for us mere mortals, lol). I’m sorry to say that I can’t remember the name of the technique, and google was of no help, I’m afraid - maybe someone else can tell you it’s name.

When I first heard it I thought that was so cool... or am I missing something... have I misinterpreted the whole thing? Chase, you do an excellent job of discovering the structure of a song and how it is done and we love you for that. But this album is something special. Tuomas here tells us quite clearly, *why* it was composed composed this way, and they key is both in the lyrics and the visuals of the videos. Nothing is random there, and the album goes much deeper than only the music itself - as good as it is. I know it's probably impossible to do both the deep musical analysis you do so well and pay attention to the lyrics and the video on the first listen. So please do yourself a favour, watch it again, ask yourself who that "I" and "You" in the lyrics are and you will have the answer why the song was structured that way and what all the visuals mean. When I discovered that, it blew my mind. The only reactor who got it in the first try was PatrolGaming, but he doesn't go as deep into the music itself as you do.

I am really looking forward to experiencing the complete album, that I've heard hundreds times till now, in a completely new way together with you. It's good to follow the album in the given order, as the songs reference each other as well from the lyrics and also from the music elements. You'll hear elements of "Music" in other songs again. Each song is so different and stands for its self but also they all belong to each other. It's going to be a constantly surprising journey through this album. It's also worth paying attention to the lyrics and the topics the songs are about. For each song there are small videos, in which one band member tells something about that song. Probably this will be interesting for you and maybe also a nice intro or outro to your reaction!? As you and probably as everyone I am so exited to hear and see this album live onstage. Especially the crowd while "Tribal". You'll understand that, by the time you react to the song and the video. ;-)

Once again you bring something to the table and increase my appreciation for a wonderful song. Thank you, Chase. I wonder how the hell she'll manage to sing this one live, night after night. That melody can't be easy... and some of the other songs on the album is even more difficult, I think. Floor did say she was challenged in her singing on this album. You have something to look forward to :-)

It's important to keep paying attention to the theme of the album. This is about what it means to be human- in this case the very development of music. So the intro part represents music being born from tribal sounds to choir to... I think the male vocal on this one is mostly Troy, but it could be all 3 vocalists together. The album symbol is cuneiform writing for human and nature. Even in the instrumentals, Tuomas is talking to us.

Great reaction/review Chase! Nightwish always has been a 'thinking person's' metal band, but this album makes that point even stronger, and it's a grower, in that it grows on a person even more with every listen! I appreciate how well you understand the musical complexities on the first go, but I encourage you to spend some time with the lyrics on this whole album as well. Very interesting that this song was written from the perspective of Music, itself, and it's important to understand the role of Pan, and not just for this song! As always...enjoying the journey with you! Cheers!

I can't begin to say just how much I love this song. A live version can't come soon enough. What Tuomos wrote here is just so interesting to the ear, and the theme of it, that it seems to be about the human relationship with music across time, really gets to me as a music lover. At least, that's my interpretation of it. Now, if you'll excuse me, since this the first time the pausing actually annoyed me (that's just how much I love this song), I'm going to go and listen to it for real, lol.

Actually the 3rd or fourth multi album once deluxe edition is like human nature music with singing but unlike the nature album the second album is the same songs just instrumental versions. There is another album or two like this then decades album and not sure if end of an era is a multi album set or not. However end of an era is like a best hits album and decades is 4 or 5 cds pretty much everything they had done.

I have a suggestion/recommendation if you want to get deeper into the lyrics and the thought process behind the whole album. There is a wonderful channel called Guylain Prince. The guy does a brilliant analysis of the lyrics (if I understand correctly, its what he does as his job or where his expertise lies). It really took how I experienced this Nightwish album and put it on a whole another level. No need to insert that into these vids, you do you, but if you feel curious, definitely check the guy - maybe after you listen to each song yourself, you can add it up to get complete picture afterwise. He seems to be very wise and his explanation of each song from this album one by one in the right order (as you will do them) is a journey on itself and one big search for what message Tuomas wanted to give to people.

Everyone is saying that the symbols mean "human" and "nature." This is more of an interpretation, than a literal translation so I'm gonna push a little further on this one because I'm an ancient history nerd. The top symbol is cuneiform (Sumerian) for "god/heaven" and the bottom is Ancient Assyrian. It's actually two words together: "man" and "woman".

Well, Dingir doubles as the symbol for sky and star, and the shape is that of a star. Based on what I know and what scholars know, my gut feeling is since many religions back than worshiped gods that were the personification of nature, the sun, the moon, the stars, that the heaven and "god" definition that modern scholars come up with has to do with nature and the natural world.
@mangalover0149
@mangalover0149 4 жыл бұрын
@@uncagedulfhedinn2525 Pretty much. It would be more accurate to say "sky". I looked up how old cuneiform really is, because it didn't really compute to me. It's 12, 000 years old. It's an unimaginable amount of time. Not surprised if it would've been sky, because that's what they must have done.

So, I've just spent the afternoon/evening/night watching your entire Nightiwsh playlist... and I had already watched all your Nightwish reactions before that. In fact, probably more than half of them I had watched more than once before watching the entire playlist yet again. I just love your reactions (in particular the Nightwish ones), always insightful and with great commentary. But I also love your actual reactions when you are awestruck, surprised or just the look of sheer joy at something you just heard. As long as you keep making these videos I'll keep watching... and as I've learned, there is a pretty good chance that I'll watch more than once.
