They let the authors of different songs lead in them on that album. Kirstie wrote this one. She also wrote 'Love Me When I Don't', 'Exit Signs' and 'It's Different Now'.

Mitch had a beautiful supporting role in Kirstin's lead vocals. That's one of the reasons I love this track. I love his ad-libs. They went pretty intricate with the background vocals and percussion . This is a Kirstie written song also. Great reaction per usual. Thanks!🙏🏾❤️

oh she wrote this?!
@kimmyf10542 жыл бұрын
@@SalvoG Yes she co-wrote it with producers Mathew Koma and Dan book. In the making of This album they all would do writing groups. It would be a writer/ producer plus one or two members of PTX in a room, just flushing out ideas and writing songs, this one was just Kirstie and the producers, no other members. 😊

Kirstin wrote this song. She has really come into her own. She has grown a lot professionally and she's in a positive relationship with Ben. She also wrote or co wrote Love Me When I Dont.

Definitely the noise you're looking for is Matt's bass. As another poster said, what Mitch is doing is called descant (kind of a echo an octave higher).

What I find interesting about this song is you are hearing Kirstin's and Mitch's lower registers as well as hearing Mitch soar above her vocals. Scott, Matt and Kevin while they are there, they are more background - if that makes sense- you can't always pick out their individual voices like you can Mitch's.
@megjones78602 жыл бұрын
Makes sense. It seems I can always hear Mtich, even when there is a tight harmony with all five of them, his voice is so unique. I even hearing him humming at the end of Hallelujah.
@ritaschara29492 жыл бұрын
I believe the sound you are trying to figure out is being done by Matt. You can catch his mouth movements in two shots.
@brutalfashion2 жыл бұрын
I would call parts of what Mitch sang (when he was floating above, singing “be my eyes”, that could be called a descant- a melody/harmony written to “float” above the rest of the arrangement.

I would say Mitch has supporting vocals in this track instead of background. Not the lead, but more in the forefront than a background vocal, like what Scott does here.

I think I'd maybe call Mitch's part here a descant. It's not THE melody, but it is A melody that sort of enhances and lays over the main melody. I like you fragile sky city visual!

I'm sure I've heard Mitch say that this is favourite PTX original or possibly just his favourite The Lucky Ones track. Such a well written song, and a great Kirstin/Mitch vocal combo. (I also think she said her fav off this album was Anchor, which is a Mitch lead). I love this one, and an older one she wrote called Water.
@jerolddavis2 жыл бұрын
Something that I think this song does a great job of illustrating that I feel gets somewhat overlooked at times about PTX is the complete lack of ego that they've shown over a decade plus of this. They could each have an absolute superstar solo career at literally any moment they want. But here they are singing backup to each other. It's just something you don't see a ton of, and I think, one of the most refreshing things about PTX.
@the_nikster12 жыл бұрын
I know exactly what you meant about the feel of the song haha and Mitch had supporting vocals here which were stunning. I always enjoy when Kirstie takes the lead on a song because we get to see how much her voice has truly grown and matured over the years. she's a real powerhouse for sure. ❤️

Matt is what you are hearing. The most important thing which I had commented on in another video is that Mitch has a Patreon and he went live 2 weeks ago and said this was his favorite song on the album and he wishes that he had been in in the writing process but then backtracked and said he might have disrupted the flow. This was filmed like coffee in bed and mad world where COVID wasn't in lockdown but it still wasn't safe to be around other people. I thought they did a great job!!! They are always meticulous about every part of what they do and that I think is why they stand out so much. Talent of course plays a huge part in it but I think if you outwork everyone else and care about what you are making and love it, all of those together make them the top

I think what you were hearing, (the mystery sound), I think that was Matt doing 1/2 bass 1/2 beatbox, I've heard him do that before, and it can throw you off, until you see his face on camera when the note hits.

I wouldn't say your inner vision is off, even visually this suggests clouds and glass. Plus, I am of the opinion that personal interpretation or visualization is never "wrong." It may not be the intended one, but what it means to you is how the music spoke to your soul....
@ruth21412 жыл бұрын
Most of the songs on The Lucky Ones were co-written with and co-produced by a pair of experienced pop songwriters / producers, Matthew Koma and Dan Book. And there were multiple vocal editors on many tracks. My theory is that any odd sounds are the result of taking a vocal phrase and doing some extra sound editing.

You also saw a kirstin lead when you watched water on popspring. Rather Be, My favorite things, Seasons of love, and Once upon a December are also great kirstin leads. She also has a big part in Shallow. She and Scott duet it with a little surprise part from Mitch. Plus you get Kevin celloboxing. (Beatboxing while playing cello). He’s the one who created it and is the only one who does it as far as I know.

Yes, descant would probably be the correct musical term for what Mitch is doing here... but in PTX-speak, you can just call it "ear-candy" ;-) I don't think your visual is weird - they kept everything very light here, and porcelain has a beautiful crystalline structure that bounces sound around before fading away, so it fits perfectly! Along with the lightness, we are getting the richness of Kirsten's mezza-soprano with her staying in the lower part of her register in this one - same for Mitch in the lower parts. I love that PTX continues to stretch their arrangements and evolve how they use the members' voices. I especially love the positive message in this song 🎵 ❤

This was filmed before vaccines were available to everyone so I think they were shot separately and then it was put together. The album was released in February 2021. The shot of all of them looks like a composite of each of them put together. It looks a little odd but you do what you have to do to keep everyone safe until everyone is vaccinated.

ive always thought that Scott isnt very prominent in this one because he is doing a lot of bass with Matt. Giving the low notes a reverb sound to them. You tried to identify a low bum sound at one point and i think that is both Matt and Scott hitting a low note together.
