It helps she was blind drunk by the time it got to filming her part 😂 she did it SO well! I’ve just binge watched a whole lot of responses, love seeing their faces change when Siobhan appears for her part! These people must have been living on the moon to have never seen or heard this song & the video. I had just left the UK & gone to Australia & I still knew all about it, have it on CD single. Maybe that’s because I’m British & STILL follow UK music!

Been an avid fan of SS since day one! This beautiful song stayed at No 1 in the UK charts for 8 weeks! We avidly watched TOP of the POPS to see this video every week, I went out and brought the LP (on vinyl), after their first single released “Goodbye Cruel World”, and the LP and singles (45’s) are still pristinely and in perfect sleeves today. I brought the rest of the singles as they came out too, and then many years later brought Hormonally Yours on CD for the car CD player. I had purchased their previous and subsequent music, more recently the reunion, All the Queens Horses, as Siobhan & Marcella got back together. If you love quirky see the vid for Hello Turn your Radio on, and I don’t care…they are so cool, plus of course All the Queens Horses, which is about their troubled years together. Siobhan was drinking and I think there was some rivalry, especially after the success of Stay as Marcy sang the opening (and was main vocals of this song,) which I think I recall Siobhan was a little jealous.? What they didn’t realise was they really did bounce well off each other and if egos had been kept under wraps, they would have had a brilliant and even more successful career then they could ever imagine as their music was just so refreshing in a time when some music was so pop, and same. I rank these great two with the Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and Erasure, etc etc who were the greats of my younger days. Love your reactions….

Siobahn (angel of death) was as drunk as a skunk when doing her part. She had got board waiting most of the day and had drunk the best part of a bottle of vodka, hence her rather erratic dancing.
@Maerahn Жыл бұрын
One of the most underrated bands of their time - there was no-one else like Shakespeare's Sister even back then, and I don't think there's been anyone since. That drop and complete mood change when Siobhan appears as the Angel of Death always hits like a thunderbolt! (Fun fact: Siobhan didn't get to film her part of the video until late in the day, so she passed the many hours up until then drinking wine - a LOT of wine. Hence her over-the-top (i.e. completely bladdered) performance!) Others of theirs I can recommend: 'You're History,' 'Hello (Turn Your Radio On)', 'I Don't Care...'

Ok, this song *was* my teens/adolescence. Loved it then, still do now. Would I have liked it as much if there hadn't been the video? I don't know. Even without visuals, Marcella's cut-crystal voice is a perfect accompaniment to Siobhan's rusty-honey. What makes this song/video combination for me is Siobhan's Death being at first 'outraged' that she's been bested, followed by the tender look as though she's happy for them, and then the eye-roll, because after all that drama, she knows, it's a matter of time; she'll be back for them both...

When creepy missus (Siobhan Fahey) left the girl group Bananarama, she formed Shakespears Sister in 1988 with American musician, Marcella Detroit. They released 2 top 10 albums and a string of top 40 hits. Stay became their biggest hit, peaking at #1 for 8 weeks in UK. I loved your reaction when Siobhan came in midway, just as it should be as the song took a complete 360 turn. The vocal tradeoff between the two singers are dramatic and intense. Also loved it when you kept mentioning "back in the day" several times. Hehe! ;)

This song and video is brillant because it has 2 interpretations. Marcella singing to her dying lover and siobhan being angel of death. The other part of the video is that, actually marcella and siobhan are actually aliens `cat women from the moon' and marcella has fallen in love with an earthling and he is returning home and she wants him to stay on the moon with her. There is short documentary on here somewhere, and if you get a chance listen to the album, it'd awesome. Your reaction when siobhan was awesome

3:35 the background to his album, Hormonally Yours, had a theme of "Cat Women from the Moon". Which is a very short song on the album and their is also a song called moon child. I think there was ideas kicked around of them making the idea into a movie but it never came to fruition.

It was amazing back when it came out! Siobhain Fahey , the one like a silent screen actress, was in a bubble pop group called Bananarama who were quite big but she hated it and left, wrote her own songs and came back with Marcella Detroit, operatic style.. They became huge! Broke up over 25 ish years ago now back and fired up! Critics loved them and new material is fresh , epic and just great with a smoky feel and Larry Mullen of U2 on drums!

I saw this video as if a drug overdose took the man down, and his addiction wanting him to “Stay”. While on the other hand, the angel of death is trying to release him from his demon addiction. In the end the man lives to temporarily return to his addiction while death rolls her eyes as if to say that she’ll be back soon. ✌🏼😎
@aelius933 жыл бұрын
I love the way the angel of death rolls her eyes when they're happily reunited in life. Like dumbasses, u get that u pay me now or pay me later. Interesting tidbit. This video was banned in some country because they thought the angel of death was a witch. For real. Anyways, in this band, the angel of death is actually the lead singer. This is the only song the other girl sings lead on. They've since said it was all PR bullshit and they've always been friends, but at the time, the story was, angel of death was pissed their biggest hit had the other girl singing, so she kicked her out immediately following the success of this song. Knowing that's their story, watch the music video for their reunion song "All the Queens Horses" It's really funny.
@Pengalen2 жыл бұрын
I could be mistaken, but I think this was their most popular song. My interpretation is that the second, crazy sparkle goth singer is indeed death or the angel of death. And her weird crazy facial expressions work really well in this particular video for this particular contrast. But if you watch some of their other videos, she does the same schtick there, which makes it less impressive. Either way, it's still a pretty good song and video from the early 90's, that holds up pretty well today.

Everyone freaks out about Siobahn's part. I personally find the first woman's lyrics 10000x more terrifying. This is not about a lover saving someone. Or if it is, that lover is a severely sadistic narcissist. I was told once the first woman is the sweet song of addiction, not a lover. It makes a lot more sense that way.
