Hell yeah! I'm in the same boat. I started with my sister, took her a few weeks to get into it, but she finally succumed to Vessel. Then I did a few colleagues, now there's 4 of them listening to Sleep Token daily. Trying my hardest to get my dad into them too, but he's more into classic hard rock/metal, i.e Iron Maiden, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen etc.

Vessel and II (drummer) are the only members of the band accredited for the writing on any of their stuff. Vessel does all the lyric writing, vocals, guitar, keys, synth... everything in studio except drums. The bassist (III) and guitarist (IV) are solely live performance musicians. Makes the magic of ST even more impressive.

what you said about bands settling on a sound is pure facts, i've been a metal/rock fan for life and slowly started falling out of it a couple years ago because it felt like every new drop from the bands i loved sounded the same, i couldn't even distinguish their songs anymore - but sleep token roped me right back in back when i discovered their music in 2021. everything sounds so fresh even when you've heard it a thousand times

You're right, I have heard this song, and this album, hundreds of times, but because you are taking the time to analyze the lyrics, you're bringing things to my attention that I hadn't thought of before. I'm a musician too, so I think I get so caught up in the emotions in the vocals and the intricacies of the music happening around them, I forget to delve into the meaning behind the lyrics. Every perspective is subjective, but it's refreshing to hear what other people think of their music and the stories behind the lyrics. Great content, keep going! :) Also, you should listen to their first two albums as well. Vessell ties lyrics in from their first album at the end of this one.

To go further in depth, the figure seems feminine and could resemble a berserker. Significant other maybe, that is always on the attack, close minded to their partners feelings. Wielding their past traumas as armor and axes. But by the end of the maybe they start unlearning some of those behaviors so the armor starts melting away.

Loved your figurine analysis! I was taking it as he's on the offense, his guard is down, and his head is in a box. The box being the physical slang for a sexual representation for the woman his infatuated with. He's blinded, and he feels safe, but he corrodes at the end when she decides to call this relationship quits. I wouldn't have come to my conclusion without your thoughts.

While I do love to see people react to the whole piece in its full flow, i totally understand the monetization handcuffs as well as the desire to break it down and ingest it all. I would prefer one complete run through and then circling back for dissection, but that's just not how youtube reactions tend to work for obvious reasons. Regardless, I apprecitae your analysis and perspective as you digest it. As long as you go back a few seconds and repair the transitions and crescendos then it's all good- that's really crucial imo.

Long post/small rant haha. Yeah, the obvious reason being that a huge majority don’t stick around for the breakdown at the end, resulting in a terrible viewer duration haha. At least this way, people may stick around during the pauses to pick up the vaule im trying to add, rather than skip it all together. As far as monetizing goes. Pausing is a myth and does not help unless you pause every 4 seconds. Unless you got a powerful team of lawyers like some some of the bigger reactions channels, that can help you argue “fair use” it’s basically just free promotion for the said artist, at the cost of my time, with no financial gain in return. Honestly I would love to be paid for my time, like anybody else. But my love for music circumvents that most of the time. It sucks having a passion in something so rooted in copyright.

I mean this with love and honesty. The other day my wife was doing the dishes and listening to Taylor swift which I don’t listen to. But I suddenly realized that sleep token is using nearly the same formula that swift is using in her recent records. The only difference being the obvious guitar and drum work. But otherwise it’s so similar it’s eerie. Don’t believe me go throw on Taylor swifts latest records. All of that said, I absolutely love it. For me take me back to Eden it’s the best record of the year. Also this record I think is about humanity and modern attitudes and obstacles. And how all these modern obstacles are devastating to our sensibilities as people.

Nothing about your commentary and slow and thorough dissection of where vessel was at when this song was produced is boring and you should not apologize for it. I think the lot of us that have been totally consumed by Sleep Token are so attached to the overarching concept and story of this toxic relationship between Vessel and Sleep, so hearing your interpretation of is so validating. We want the people that hear them for the first time to ***hear*** them, much like you are. This is what we want. This is what we are hungry for.
