As someone that lived in Japan for 7 years and loved being able to keep to myself, it was a bit of a culture shock coming back home to visit (and I’m not even from the south I’m in Colorado). I haven’t been to the south in… 20+ years but even though I’m very shy there’s just something different about Southern hospitality that made me feel welcome even as an anxious child who was usually afraid of everyone.

A lot of the south (especially Appalachia) was settled by Scots and Irish. So I'm not surprised you're seeing cultural similarities to Scotland. Love your videos. Keep 'em up. The Coke thing is mainly because Coke is based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hi from North Carolina. If you decide to come over to visit I would suggest the Biltmore Mansion (maybe for Christmas with all the Christmas lights and trees set up) or visiting the mountains during fall… all the trees with the reds, yellows, and oranges in color are breathtaking!

It's mostly accurate. A bit generalized but still mostly true. We have crawfish boils all the time. I don't care for it myself. I prefer shrimp or crab. Everyone else on the family loves it. Don't worry you *can* order unsweet tea or tea that's 1/2 sweet and 1\2 unsweet. I do it all the time here in Texas.

He described the deep south and coastal regions, which are rich in culture and beauty. They developed around farm and plantation industries. I suggest you look up the history of each place before you go. But also consider Appalachian mts-TN, VA, NC, foothills of SC and GA. Scotts and Irish settled here and the rural area kept many traditions. I live in the Great Smokey Mts. National Park in NC- unique Music, food, history and beauty (especially autumn). 3 hours from Atlanta, worth it! Its the most visited national park in the US.

The stuff they dumped on the table is called a low country boil. It’s so good! Usually has shrimp, small corn on the cob, crab and potatoes but people put different things in it depending on where they are from and what they like. When I was in college in Savannah a friend and I used to go out early to the channels coming off the Atlantic and catch fresh shrimp and crab in drop nets. It was fun unless dolphins were around because they were trying to catch and eat the same thing you were netting for!

Yes, I make crawfish boils and have bought crab bushels for boils. We have a special seasoning blend you can by at the grocery store, by different brands. The jar is huge, and depending on how much you are cooking, you pour cups and cups of it into the water. We usually have crawfish or shrimp boil with mini red potatoes and corn.

If you wish to see both nature and history on a southern road trip for around a week, I suggest flying into Washington D.C. and visit the Mall, especially the Air and Space Museum and the Monuments. Then in a rented car, drive west to the Blue Ridge Parkway and drive south to Asheville. A side trip west to the Smokey Mountains if you need to see more trees, or drive east on I-40 to Raleigh, and further east to Knobs Head and further east to the outer banks and Kitty Hawk. From Kitty Hawk drive north to Norfolk and take I-64 across the Hampton Roads Tunnel, you might get a great view of the largest navy base in the world. Continue north on I -64 to Williamsburg, and the Yorktown battlefield where America won the Independence War. Then you have the choice of amusement parks to visit, Busch Gardens in Williamsburg or King’s Dominion north of Richmond. Then north to Washington D.C. to catch your flight home. Warning, that’s around three to four days of driving, but your only extended stay for an entire day in DC and Williamsburg. This road trip takes you through both Virginia and North Carolina, lots of history and lots of scenery.

As a lifelong Texan, I can guarantee a hilariously-surreal experience lined with regular pit barbecue stops and burger joints in my home state-each location is often vastly different from the last. A famous example around here in my home town is ‘Grumps,’ a homestyle burger joint with a back porch/your dad’s garage aesthetic-plastic tables, wooden chairs, giant buckets of in-shell peanuts on the table… The burgers are to die for; my favorite comes with barbecue sauce, crispy strips of bacon, and a whole deep-fried onion ring on it, _and_ there’s an option to get it on a jalapeño cheddar bun. Prepare to gain weight.

I've never been to a BBQ joint myself, but the one place I hear people mention over & over is Terry Black's in Texas; they have just about every meat that can be smoked, including a beef rib they call the "dinosaur rib" (it's HUGE). In my opinion, if you want to visit the south in winter but you're not sure where to go, go to Louisiana; winters rarely get frigid there (it's actually so tropical that people plant banana trees in their gardens just for the look).
@beardown39203 ай бұрын
I'm not sure why Terry Black's became the place everyone does reactions to. I'm guessing someone came from Europe that had never had BBQ before and found out how good it was. Wherever they would have picked to try would have blown their mind and made them give a great reaction. Others saw the video and assumed that meant Terry Black's was what was so good when it was really just the first time having BBQ. It's a great place with great BBQ but theres a lot of better places all over the south. There's starting to be different places getting reaction videos now with people doing multiple places and they all pick other places over Terry Blacks.

There’s nothing wrong with sauce, and you want it on certain barbecued items. Like, it’s usually mixed into pulled/shredded pork. But there’s a school of thought and eating habit that a lot of people follow, like me, that sauce detracts from the pure flavor of the meat, overpowering it. I mean yeah, it will taste great with sauce, but you’re mostly tasting the SAUCE.

South Georgia in the summer is truly almost unbearable! Some place like Savannah is still hot as hell (literally) with 100% humidity but it helps a little that it’s on the coast and has a sea breeze. In the interior of South Georgia where I actually grew up we didn’t have that so a typical summer day would be 100°+ with 100% humidity. People who aren’t from there don’t understand why we stress the humidity part but imagine taking a shower then walking outside and in 5 minutes you’re soaked again and feel like you were back in the shower! Not kidding

That said, every state in the south has their own style of souther hospitality, culture and cuisine with certain traits they all share. I personally love Savannah Georgia, North and South Carolina and Louisiana. Theres tons to enjoy and discover all over the south, theres no wrong option. Id recommended visiting all of them.

I am originally from Alabama. I moved away 45 years ago. I moved back there in 2022. It is a different world. Yes, manners and being polite are extremely important. The thing is, in "The South", some of the endearing sayings they use are outright insults to people who don't know what is really meant. They are very politically opionated and are quick to point out where you are wrong if you don't agree with them. It is a nice place to visit but living there is a totally different animal. I had to dumb my vocabulary down to be able to communicate and I lived in Huntsville, AL. Department of Defense contractors, Marshall Space Center, and Redstone Arsenal. I am talking actual rocket scientists but they are a small community. The locals are not the brightest bulbs on the tree.
