What's amazing to me now that I listen to this is that she must have recorded the vocal on this in the studio with a whole group of jazz musicians. And I bet she did it without much production goofing it up. Just her fronting a totally swinging straight ahead jazz group. Just close your eyes and listen to her running out in front of the band and driving the music not trying to keep up with the band.

Wonderful Angelina made this video including her classmates. We know Angelina is having fun whenever she is 'working" on her music but this was special to include her friends. Her early years are remarkable, not just because vocally she was more advanced than any other at a given age but because she had her own style and conveyed tremendous emotion from her earliest performances.

Angelina has been brilliant right out of the starting gate and has always surprised me by her choices and never disappointed me in her performance. I also don't want to to suggest anything to her to perform. She's gonna go where she's gonna go and I'm thrilled to go along for the ride as long as I can.

You made some very important points that everyone especially first time listeners to Angelina need to hear.Listening for the endless subtleties of her vocals and appreciating her creativity from even the earliest performances.Appreciate her genius at every step of the way,she is evolving musically but has never been musically deficient in any way.I remember reading a translation from a norwegian interview where her mom said that she knew that there was something unique and special about Angelina,even as an infant.She didn't elaborate more but I think that we will never know the full mystery of this amazing child.

Hi Nate. Angelina's grandmother is credited with directing the video. Also, I believe this song is originally from 1928! Of course, Angelina drags it forward almost a hundred years, jazzes it up, and makes it spectacular. She can't be more than 10 here. I always enjoy your thoughtful reactions.

Grandma was the first one to jump up and applaud just as finished the song, with mom next to her :)

This uplifting video was produced and directed by her grandmother, Mery Zamani. These are the kids Angelina goes to school with in Oslo. Notice how everyone speaks very good English. The man in the hall with the papers is her uncle/manager Michael. Do you remember, as a kid, how much fun it was to slide down the banisters? These kids are all very talented, partly because the "arts" are highly valued in Norway. I've heard this song many times, but this is my favorite version. When Angeliin is doing jazz, her tone and phrasing is always right on. Very well made and uplifting video. Her classmates are well-aware of Angelina's remarkable talent. But it's not something she flaunts. By the looks on their faces, this video was a blast to make. Thanks a lot Nate! 😊💕

Thanks, Nate, for another fantastic Angelina reaction. Wasn't that one fun? "When You're Smiling" was written in 1928 by Larry Shay, Mark Fisher and Joe Goodwin. Louis Armstrong had a hit record of it, but the version Angelina did was probably based on the Louis Prima version in the mid-1950s. Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r37apJh_f9yBl9E I always enjoy your comments before and after your reactions. Very thoughtful and heartfelt. Keep the Angelina reactions coming. As you know, her fans can't get enough of them (and you)!

Well said Nate. She hooked me within the first few seconds of my first time seeing/hearing her. It was the A cappella part of Bohemian Rhapsody. Goosebumps right then. And right then I sensed that I was about to hear something really special. That was a bit over a month ago. Have been listening to her lots since then. I'm in my 70's. Have heard a lot of talented singers over the years. Angelina is just amazingly special. And I agree with your thoughts on another of her songs.. She was probably listening to lots of music right from the womb. But, as you said, I think, there is more. She is also a gifted prodigy. At 18 months you can hear the Whitney Houston melody. And to learn to seek out Jazz songs over the internet by the age of 3!! Many kids listen to music in the womb. Not many ( any?) are looking for songs on the internet by the age of three. And also gifted with "perfect pitch" and special vocal chords, and great intelligence. Thanks Nate.
@alanoakley32424 жыл бұрын
I agree with much of what you said. Some of what Angelina did as a child didn't sound perfect but I could always see what she was trying to do. She was attempting vocal techniques that kids twice her age would not even notice. In some cases she simply made sounds approximating to the lyrics of songs, which is pretty bold. She didn't know the words to Gloomy Sunday or I'm a Fool to Want You on NGT, for example, but got up in front of tens of thousands of viewers anyway because she could sound like Billie Holiday. Since developing her own sound, she still only had a rudimentary grasp of what she was singing about in some instances but you would never know it from her performances because she always sounded like she was singing her life. Listen closer and you'd occasionally have to ask whether she had come across a particular word before or was it a word at all. While I'll grant that her style made it difficult to tell how much was intentional, one of her many gifts is that it doesn't seem to matter. The most interesting thing for me now is to what extent Angelina's record label reign in her eclecticism and steer her path.

Thank you for such thoughtful reactions, and for insightful reminders about the need for self-care and paying deeper attention at a time like this. Yup, straight-up jazz...love it. This is such a delightful video, and Angelina is showing her acting skills a bit, too. Are you aware of her friendship with Steven Van Zandt, formerly of Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band and Sopranos? He recently starred in the Lillehammer, or Lilyhammer TV series. I think it was filmed in Norway. He became acquainted with Angelina and her family and invited Angelina to appear in the last episode of the show. She was just eight years old and played a little girl singing in a club of some sort. She sang two songs. Much of her singing is drowned out by conversation among the dinner guests, but it is still a pretty delightful thing to watch. Here's her IMDb profile: www.imdb.com/name/nm8361019/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t339

Nate, hearing your comments about life and it's challanges, I get a guess you have learned lessons about it a hard way and got wise to have a different look and feel on such things and value the necessity for selfcare. Music that touches the heart and soul like that from Aurora and Angelina helps a lot. Another recommendation for soulful scandinavian music is the band Wardruna. Their performance of 'Helvegen' together with Aurora may be the best start into their world. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ_Ohah-hZ6kadE Btw, I'm from Germany (you asked about it in a previous reaction, where your audience is from if I remember correctly)
