This video is one of the best I've seen come along in years. The way the story unfolds in brilliant. Hardy and Lainey's voices just complement each other so perfectly. Love that you caught that about the gun! A lot of people don't get the double meaning, that her day of justice did come from a 'judge under the seat' and I have to say I love that line so much. There was a case near where I live a few months ago, where a woman went into the parking lot and a man was beating on his girlfriend; the woman who comes up on the scene, she had a permit to carry and she pulled out the gun and told the man to stop and once he saw a gun aimed at him, he ran like the coward he was. The cops were called and one cop sort of lectured the woman with the gun, saying she should have called them first before pulling the weapon and she pointed out that in the time it would have taken her to call, he would have caused his victim more damage and she reminded him that she had her permit. Cop asked her, "What would you do if he had come towards you rather than run off?" and she said as calmly as possible, "If he had taken two steps in my direction, you would be at a very different crime scene because I would have put at least three in his chest."

To me life can be very simple we just tend to make it complicated. If you abuse a woman or child then the abuser chose his fate which is a bullet between the eyes. I have absolutely no compassion for trash like that man.

I love your reactions to this video. Hardy is one of the most prolific song writers of this decade and his songs are lyrical gold. This particular song hits all three sides of the issue with DV. He addresses the victim, the rescuer, and the abuser. The victim is in the middle of a back woods road walking away from the abuser but knowing that in small town America many times it is impossible to get away. You have the people who absolutely can not stand an abuser and instinctively wants to put him in his place. He also addresses the abuser in the song who is in his home drunk off his rocker, threatening her with his shot gun and happens to be passed out at that moment. This scene happens way to much in real life. He has been in prison for 60 months = 5 years and she is still waiting in the truck for him and visits on visitation days. Lyrical GOLD!

I appreciate your reactions. Having said that where i grew up we were taught at a young age if your dad, mom, uncle, cousin, friend gave you that look and said "wait in the truck" or "get in the car" , you dont ask questions, you dont argue you just do it. I get not wanting to see a life taken, but the justice system does not protect these women. Ive seen survivors say the police stood in their living room looking at the marks on her neck and telling her there was nothing they could do. She looked up the laws in her state later to find out that according to the law he was supposed to be arrested and removed from the home, and they had done nothing. Everyone, even her family knew what was happening and they did nothing. And how many times you watch the news to see the man makes bail just to go home and kill her. Its not so cut and dry and sometimes this is what it takes and we need more men like this one. She got the only justice she would ever see, thanks to him.

I believe that Hardy's character lost someone he loved to domestic violence. He just met her but decided that her only chance was if the bastard was dead. I understand the mindset as well. There's a making of Wait in the Truck video where Hardy talks about the song. The actor playing the abuser talked to Hardy and said, "I listened to the song and you never to kill me hard."

Along with all the other comments, everybody has their own moral code ‘two wrongs don’t make a right’ that’s for sure but I think this video was particularly made to bring out awareness of abuse and in all aspects of it due to the fact that we’re talking about it right now and that’s something very important because there’s so many men out there they don’t know how to be in a relationship and there’s a lot of women out there that will take it because they don’t know either it’s just the way of the system of things. And the way that the laws are now there not strict enough for domestic abuse in my opinion, and that’s the reason why people in general get away with this kind of abuse along with child abuse but anyways, I really enjoyed y’all’s reaction. Thank you for sharing. Take care and be safe. ❤️🫶🏻🤠

I have seen comments such as, he had never been there and did not know her. He should have driven her to the police station. I will say this then leave the subject alone. There are adults out there who were once too young or weak to defend a sibling from an abusive father. Several attempts for the siblings to run away resulted(rightly or wrongly) in them being returned to a home more like Hell that only got worse then. Young boys have been beaten and tossed to the side and had to watch through the blood running into their eyes as their older sister is beaten to death. They are helpless to save their sister then but grow up and become adults. The principal in this song may not have seen a stranger at midnight in a driving thunderstorm. He may not have been able to save his sister but he is not going to trust the system to save this girl. He had a decision to make....

"Wait in the truck" is Southern for $hit$ about to get real ladies. A true Southern Gentleman doesn't stand for a man laying hands a a woman. We WILL end that with a quickness. Been in that situation more than once. Worst was when I got my hands on the punk who k.i.l.l.e.d a very good friend of mine by driving drunk. He threatened to do to a young lady what he did to my friend. All I know about what I did to him is what my buddies told me later. He spent 2 weeks in the hospital afterwards. I had a total REDOUT. It took 3 people to get me off him and out to the car and I wasn't a big guy but I am Country Strong. Add in an extreme rage issue with a flood of adrenaline, I'm lucky I didn't do more damage. If my friends hadn't been there I would probably still be in prison.

My father once told me, the moment you put your hands on a woman, is the moment you loose all credibility as a man. You are no longer a man, u are trash. He told me that if it ever came down to a physical altercation with a female....push her down and run if u have to. Don't ever strike her. Ive carried that with me since I was 12. I'm 33 now, and can proudly say, I've never hit a woman. I couldn't imagine balling up my fist, and punching a female. For any reason, except if my life depended on it. Like, she came at me with a knife or gun. But, I don't see how you could piss a woman off enough, to come at you like that. So obviously you done something so terrible to this woman, that made her want to kill you. Which in turn, makes you a douche bag. So you prolly deserve it.

If you listen to this song when it says I think he's going in there to rough him up the guy that beat that girl so bad I don't think he's going in there to shoot him and then he says when he was reaching for his 12 talkin about a 12-gauge shotgun breaking and entering assault for Hardy's action video of course only so somewhat self-defense too. But it'd been better if you'd just made him pretty good put it on him this is a song about domestic violence and it should be listen to I'm happy but no one days to live like that yeah I did not put you here to be someone's punching bag We all have a purpose in life This is just a song and the harmonizing is absolutely fantastic I like Hardy and some of his music some of it I don't like as much but love country music But he's quite a musician he has got an awesome voice and so does she I think her name is lainey wilson what a gorgeous force I got to look some more up on her Anyways just the song but sometimes you know somebody may think twice before they do something whether it be beating on somebody for pulling a gun on somebody first night I rely on God Jesus and the Holy Excuse typos Hope everyone has a great day

Some people have a problem with him shooting the abuser. If you look at the window you see the barrel of the shogun the man was going for. You look at the expression on Hardy’s face immediately after the shot and you can tell he does not take it lightly.
@macmcgee5116
@macmcgee5116 Жыл бұрын
I agree that his character doesn't take it lightly. However, from a legal aspect.. he may not have entered with the intention to kill, but the moment he kicked in the door, he lost any chance of being able to claim self defence. That is why he still ended up in jail. That said, he still chose to trade his freedom for hers and did what he felt in his heart was right. And the abuser deserved it. I believe the song was inspired by a real situation where a guy found an abused woman then went and beat the guy with a tire iron, but didn't kill him. The guy got something like 20 months for assault. Some people say he was a friend of Hardy's others say he just wrote the song after hearing the story.

WOMAN DID NOT ENTICE MAN, HE JUST ADMINISTERED JUSTICE. At times men and women have to act as if in and at a war, no malice or forethought, just survival and removing the threat to oneself or others. Sure the guy in the trailer had a 12 gauge BUT (and I don't know which state this was in so I'm not sure if it has a stand your ground law or not) Hardy had just kicked in his door, was clearly aggressive, AND had a deadly weapon on him. Don't get me wrong, I'm on Hardy's side here, but the man had the right to go for his gun and if he had shot Hardy the law would probably have seen it as self-defense

It wasn't just because of his past, you may not know the whole story but a lot can be said by body language and non-verbal communication. There are two sides to every story BUT she was clearly terrified and closed off, not the signs of someone who just got into a two-way fight with their significant other.

I don't think he went there with the intent to kill. The gun was a, "what if he has one", which he did. I think he intended to open a can of whopp@$$ on him. He could have shot him on the couch or in the hall but instead chose to pull him back to a room with space to beat the crap outta him in, cause killing him would be too easy on him. The pistol is a 357 magnum not a Judge. The judge under the seat is a metaphor for the judge under the seat is the jury and sentence of the guys crime of beating her. This song has so much resonance because for what ever reason, maybe his mother was abused by an alcoholic, he felt it was worth it to fix a wrong that he couldn't when he was a boy. He knew he could survive prison but she wouldn't survive living with that guy. He traded his life for hers.

I actually spent a night in jail for this way back in the 80's. I walked in on one of my troops beating his wife and damn near killed him. Luckily she called the police before I did. By the end of the week we had moved her back to Alabama and he was assigned to a new unit with UCMJ action pending.

My sister didn't let me move in with her and her family. Because she knew I'd get in trouble because of her abusive husband. He hadn't been physical in years. But, he was emotionally and mentally abusive. And I was mad at first. But, after a couple of years, I understand why now.

A girl I grew up with lefther abusive husband and followed all the steps she could. He handcuffed her, tortured her, and murdered her. I am pretty sure her family feels like they should have done this and taken the sentence to have her back. Her kids and grandkids all now are without a her in their life. If it was happening to my kids I may have the same thoughts.

Catchy and compelling song/story. Civilized society involves a social contract that protects the weak. Our laws seek to ensure this -- but they and our justice system too often fall short. There are times when the right thing to do is illegal. Some (many) of those times are the result of someone going outside the social contract and preying on others. The protagonist taking limited information, making a life-altering decision and then acting on it may have been what I'd consider rash and short-sighted, but I won't say his actions were wrong or that he is a bad man for acting in the way he did. A good man is not a harmless man, but rather a man capable of great violence who voluntarily keeps that violence restrained.

As she is on the stand testifying she says "I don't know if he's an angel because angels don't do what he did" I would submit that he was both a guardian as well as an avenging angel. When the system, when society fails to protect those weakest among us it is left to rough men standing outside the rule of law to do what is necessary to preserve the peace, protect the innocent, and return civility. Some call this "vigilante justice" but for some the vigilante is the only hope to obtain justice. Here is what I saw in the video: A drifter, a loner, a ex'con (Based on the prison tats) finds a gal who has been beaten, he knows the signs he's seen them in the past in a woman he holds dear. He makes the decision to help her, the only help he knows is violence. He has been to prison and knows he can do the time. He makes the choice to remove her from her prison, a prison of abuse and pain, he frees her.

You got it all wrong in your opinion. This song is about men. Good men and bad men. All men are dangerous. But only bad men are dangerous to women. This is about the protective instincts of a good man. What would a good man think of first if it was his mother or his sister? A woman may be a strong woman but can still be compromised by badman. What would you give if you were in that situation to have a good man come along?

Most men who beat women are truly awful people. My ex-husband was just a hateful, awful person. He didn't need any real reason to have his fun at my expense.

That was not THE "judge" which is a Taurus, but the term fits any handgun kept under the seat, as far as I'm concerned.

It may not have been well documented in the video . . It makes it look more like cold-blood killing; song states the guy shot before the drunk could fire his 12 Hague . . Just saying, the song, not video, implies a level of self-defense even though hardy went there to settle a score of sorts . .

Let me throw the statue, so when he got out of the truck and he had a handgun in his hand he went up to the door and knocked on it. No answer, so he kicked the door in. They got into a scuffle down the hallway and the only time he pulled his gun. And shot him is when he went for his. Shotgun, what if he was trying to rough him up, bring him to the law and did not have intention on killing him until the shotgun came into play at that time, then he had to be judging jury and executioner, but not at first

I agree with you and even if a restraining order is put in place all too often the abuser walks right through the restraining order and in those cases it happens where they take the life of the person they abused.
