That's just terrible especially considering what a great reputation China has for the way it treats foreigners. There are a number of articles on the subject you can find online that say essentially the same thing, but here is a recent one done by Escape: "Chinese tourists are fairly unpopular in the survey, particularly in parts of Asia. They were named as the worst tourists in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. They had no idea how to act in different countries and didn't take into account other peoples cultures." Why is that surprising considering how much time Chinese spend being offended by others that it is impossible for them even to consider how offensive they themselves are behaving. Did it ever occur to you that maybe the reason Chinese have so much trouble abroad might not be because all the rest of the world is demonizing China but rather because Chinese people are rude and arrogant? I mean, before you start yelling "racist!!" how do you do you account for the people of Singapore not liking the Chinese? I mean, come on, a major part of Singapore is ethnic Chinese. Sadly, here in Singapore, all the local media have a decidedly anti--China bias although we have an overwhelming Chinese population and the ruling party do not think the country is ready to accept a member of the minority race to be the prime minister. I am of the view it doesn't matter which race the PM is from as long as he/she is the best person to hold the post. But this anti-China bias, portrayed in Western media, by the local press is not acceptable to most of my friends and me. Most of those I know hold the local media in contempt. The main local newspaper, The Straits Times, has declined rapidly over the last few years and has to be taken off its listed vehicle, SPH, which is now just a property holding company.

Excellent panel and discussion about the fleecing of Australians by the military industrial complex and media. One small critique would be the reference to the military spending that shows the USA spending 3 times more than China. It would be far better to refer to the PPP military spending which would likely be a multiplier of 3 to 5 or that in PPP terms China's military is as large or larger than that of the USA. You also need to consider that China's GDP is still growing quite fast whereas the USA's economy is in real terms declining from 1 to 3% most years. For Australia to think it can benefit itself by challenging China is incredibly ludicrous. No one knows the number of nuclear weapons held by China. None of this critique is intended to paint China as a threat, it is clearly defensive. China does not support terrorism, China does not invade countries and China does not fund orange revolutions. You can't say the same for the west and in particular the USA.

As a Chinese, sometimes I feel very frustrated. Being misunderstood is like a kid who was wrongly stolen by a supermarket and everyone didn't believe him. When I was studying in the UK, almost no one believed that my country I lived in was a country that only wanted to defend themselves and not to invade others, but maybe because of the differences in thinking between the East and the West, they felt that I was brainwashed! God, No one remembers that in order to force drug sales, the British used war to rob Chinese ports, the Eight-Power Allied Forces burned down Qing palaces and killed many civilians, and many more. Now we are working hard to develop ourselves in order not to become new form of slaves to these countries again and not to let ourselves fall into a sad state again. A famous Western said : ‘Truth is only within the range of a cannon’. If you have no strength, you will be bullied. But there are always people who say that the power to protect ourselves is a threat to the world and some people really believe it. I: WTF? CCP has shortcomings, but it is rapidly iterating and self-reflection. The Cultural Revolution was written in high school textbooks for self-reflection. We have studied global history since junior high school, and of course we know the advantages and disadvantages of the Western political system. But gradually, I no longer care about these distorted remarks made by the Western media. Just let time prove that this ancient country longing for harmony will gradually develop economic and cultural influence in a harmonious way. I shouldn't waste time on the people who don't have the ability to think independently.

It's a bullying tactic, harass someone till they punch back then cry victim.
The self fulfilling prophecy that is playing out is the CCP convincing the Chinese people that nobody likes them. It causes the nation to behave is such a way that it really is becoming disliked pretty much all over the world. The CCP keeps saying this is because other nations resent the fact that China is successful. But that's not true. Other nations resent China because it is becoming a bully in a way reminiscent of the way Japan behaved in the 1930s. Interestingly, Japan also told itself that other nations resented them because they were successful. Nope. Other nations didn't like Japan because Japan was a bully. Not a good example China is following.

It's quite simple. Australia in 2020 hedged on war happening. Now she's lost her trade with China, from her perspective, war better happen, otherwise they lose their trade for nothing. So the government and the media will do everything they can to fan the flames for war. Trouble is, Australia is the kid with the loud mouth and the small stick, she cannot initiate anything by herself. So, she's in a very unenviable position. EVERYONE knows this.... It's just that none of the media here likes to admit it, partly because a lot of it is under the yoke of the Murdochcracy, and the rest of it being threatened with government funding cuts.
