Nothing can beat those analogue synths from the 80s!

Oh "Never let me go" yeah, after so much time that was still surprisingly good!And i loved the artistic video to this.Twas "spooky" good.

Even though didn't think too much of them at first, I ended up being a big fan of the HL mostly after hearing "The things that dreams are made of" as well as their fantastic "Dare mix album" titied "Love and dancing"-The League unlimited orchestra.Especially the opening track "Hard times".I still love the official "cinematic" video to DYWM now already iconic and classic.Liked Phil's weird and kinda "scary" persona and the girls too.(Jo and esp Suzane).As they confessed many years later, that song's killer riff was kind of an "unofficial sampling" from Abba's main keyboard line off their 1977 prog rock-pop masterpiece "EAGLE".Phil Oakey was an open fan while the girls were closet ones.Even some of their singles had the "cryptic" indication in their cover sleeve.Words "Red"(for posers) or "Blue"(for Abba fans) as Phil explained!Some other great tracks are "Fascination","Human","Empire state human",Love Action","Things that dreams are made of","The Lebanon","One man in my heart","You remind me of Gold","Sound of the crowd" to mention but a few.The League were a turning point to the new '80s trend since they made "new romantic" movement and synthesizer pop music more commercial and appealing to the masses.They were also the top UK "invadors" to the USA music market and charts,starting again a new revolution.Many other UK synth bands followed quite easily ever after since they had re"opened" that door.,similar way the Beatles and the Stones had also done back in the '60's.

Great Insight ... Thank You sooooo much 😎 Human League for breaking down the commercial door for "new romantic" and synth music to flourish in America! I was instantly a huge fan of UK bands when I was a kid (In Texas) in the 80's ... Anything from ABC, Erasure, Yazoo, WET WET WET, Bronski Beat, Culture Club, Curiosity Killed the Cat ... So I suppose that crescendo was truly reached on June 18, 1988 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA with Depeche Mode 101 😎😎

This was number 1 on the charts the week I was born haha. Great song. "The Lebanon" is my favorite Human League song. I was still a kid when the internet started to take off. Everybody had to live in the moment back then. Great memories. Pizza Hut is still here, but you are thinking of Dine-In Pizza Hut where a waiter served you...that is long gone lol.

ah some great memories at the old dine-in Pizza Hut 😎😎

The “ accents “ were dominant back then because there wasn’t world wide communication like it is now. My job lets me interact with workers from various countries and I can tell you 20 years ago, their accents were pretty strong. Now English is the major language in the world and as young people are brought up to speak it, most are having a hard time retaining their own native tongue. I live in Louisiana and the same is true here, Cajun French was dying out very rapidly with young people. Groups got together and started teaching it again to pass it along to the next generation.

Phil didn't want to release this as a single. He didn't think it was that good but it became huge.

We all grew up singing with British accents! Although a-ha is Norwegian and English is their second language. I really loved (Keep Feeling) Fascination by HL!

I think there were so many different syles of music back in the 80s...maybe all British bands sound alike to Tay because of the accent.(?) Try 80s pop rock...Glass Tiger, Rick Springfield. A lot of today's music sounds the same to me too.

If Ty thinks all 80's songs sound the same, why don't you check out 70's songs with groups like Roxy Music, Sparks(American band) , America, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, early Queen (very different!) , Glam Rock and Bubblegum music. So much to discover!

Aye. Duran Duran ABC. Human league. And early spandau ballet. Visage And a few more bands were called the New Romantics. And were a movement created in a club in London in early 80s called the blitz. I do agree to me they do have a wee bit o the same vibe. But still fantastic and a breath o fresh air and stands the test of time And takes ye back to a great time for music. Aw best Mac.

Cock Robin, American band who had little success here in the US, but hear they had long career overseas, fascinating. I own and still love their first 3 albums 😎😎 "Biggest fool of all" and "Just around the corner" are great 😎😎

This was a lip-synch/ mimed performance. Only three bands actually performed live on Top Of The Pops. The dead give away on the performance is 1. A fadeout. 2. There is no bass guitar on this song. 3. The Prophet 5 has no cables coming out of it. 4. The bass guitar has no cable plugged into it The Human League has a lot of hit songs. The Human League still tours
@robertlanier22352 жыл бұрын
