Not just in France. I already seen similar clapping in Italia and Spain. Usually these are done as “the last call” for any kind of artistic personality at the coffin outing of the church. These also happened for Haute Couture designers, movie actors or directors, classical music artists, theater author etc… It’s even happened for Celine Dion’s late husband Rene Angelil in the basilica of ND de Montreal who was just a Manager (yet one of the biggest of modern music industry). This documentary is not the official one broadcast in national TV which was way better, with President Macron’s eulogy and the complete mass. The filming was done in good condition and the entire music crew of Johnny was there playing his songs.

The day I woke up, turned on the news and heard about it, I called my dad cause I knew he wasn't at work. He was devastated. Johnny Hallyday was his one and only father's figure in his life. On this day, he went at work very early, letting a note on his desk : "Johnny est mort." His colleagues understood immediately the reason of his absence. Eventually, they gave him some goodies of his hero to make him feel better at work. Personally, I was not a fan, but strangely I felt horribly sad this day. Maybe he was, unconsciously, my grandfather's figure. Now, I'm a bit older and some of his songs touch me very differently.

Well, about peoples liking Johnny or not, i think most peoples doesn't like nor hate him, but are aware of his legacy, how he was famous and changed the french music. Personnally, i'm french, i like some of his songs, i don't like some others, i'm overall neutral about Johnny, but i'm aware that he was a great artist. Also, having a lot of person in a funeral isn't an indication of if he was loved or not. Even if 100 000 persons showed up, it's still a minority, France has over 70 millions inhabitants

Hi D 🙂. We have two great iconic singers in France. One of them is gone forever but one remains and he is retiring as a singer this year. He was also a great friend of Johnny Halliday... was, but that's another story 🤐! Have you already reacted to Michel Sardou? I just spent my day subtitling (first time for me 😶) one of his songs which, as June 6 approaches, should awaken some memories.

What he must have done to himself for 25 minutes. Watch a funeral like video it must be “boring”! It exudes joy! Especially for the day. Moreover, not even translated. Again this kind of totally useless "made video" which must take up time in his probably very busy schedule, it's not worth it.
