As you can see, the Lyrics are truly, extremely strong and she is able to make you feel they are that strong. She finished empty, emptied even. She gave it all. she wasn't singing, she wasn't interpreting the song, she WAS the song. All in her was the emotion the writer of the Lyrics put in the words.

this song I am sick written in 1973 by Serge Lama its Author and interpreter and Alice Donna its composer is here perfectly interpreted by Lara Fabian. What gives me the most pleasure is to see the surprise in the eyes and the closed face open with a smile. When a song is good and performed well, it's this reaction that comes first.

I was a street dancer in my youth with friends we danced to earn a little money not far from there there is a famous bar in Brussels where she sang every evening when she was very young with a friend they came to watch us dance for a few moments I had exchanged a few words where she had said to me that she was a singer and songwriter it was the good old days late 80s a song from it's debut it was "I'll stop loving you" live behind her piano with that crystal voice she's wonderful

Thank you for you wonderfull reaction. As most have said this performance by Lara is a masterpiece, but so are all the songs from her concert "From Lara with Love". The performance starts with a childlike response (soft voice), and gradually moves through despair (pleading), and finally to all out rage. Her facial ecpression near the end with a manic grin whilst in a state of despair is unbelievably moving. I cry every time. So glad you have found her.

Mesmerizing, very few popular music singers can accomplish this, rendering the emotion on almost operatic level, she is truly one of the greats, to think some French (France) people mocked her at the time for being TOO intense...What an insult, how can you be too intense, especially with a song like this?

I really appreciate you caring enough about that song and the artist to record a second reaction with subtitles, it was interesting to watch the difference between what the music alone without subtitles does in contrary to how it's received with reading along the lyrics. That's why I often suggest to reactors when proposing a song (in a foreign language) to first watch it without lyrics... but most of them can't resist to pull up the lyrics immediately... If you are willing to do this I would love to repeat this experiment with another song I love. I will not tell what it did to me to not arouse a certain expectation, only that it really is another outstanding artist and performance I appreciate as much as Lara's incredible achievement with "Je suis malade"... So this is Japanese diva Misia singing a song called 'Ashitae'... The video has subtitles optionally, also there's some information on the background of the song in the video description. My suggestion would be that you, in order to not having to record and edit two videos, would listen to her two times in a row in one video... first just watch her perform, then read through the description and enable subtitles and have a second go... I'd be happy to watch you react on this as suggested, because your reaction to Lara was really beautiful! Thanks a lot! - Here's the link: Misia - Ashitae (THE FIRST TAKE) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKLHYaqkjMR7eas - THE FIRST TAKE is a channel's name, they invite a different artist each week to perform a song of their own choice with a special arrangement done by the channel, only rule:The artist gets only one take, if they mess up that's it... (awesome concept!)

Both the delivery and the words hit hard for me. She's not a weak woman at this point, as Rollen said.. she's at the end of her rope and knows she has to walk away or she'll die. I was in a relationship years ago that left me feeling this low, so I get it. Narcissistic abuse is horribly damaging. It took a long time, but I finally healed.

There are songs and performances by artists that transcend all language bounderies. Lara is one of those artists who can move many in any language she sings in. How she performs and interprets songs is a quality one has. One cannot be taught to interpret songs with such passionate emotion!

Mrs Fabian, through her performance, tells us how much a relationship she’s in (with a person who’s already married) is destroying her, killing her. She’s getting sick emotionally, losing her mind, becoming desperate. Conscious of how much she’s becoming a wreck, she feels stupid, even ridiculous, about her own helplessness and increasing self doubt; angry at herself and at her partner for not being able to let go. The song, a French classic, was originally released by a man, Serge Lama, in 1973, who wrote most of it in 20 minutes, telling a story that had deeply hurt him.

Hello, If you watch this video, it's essential to know that Serge Lama lives in his current life (1973), this tragedy he describes in the song. It's what he lives at the moment. And if you observe him with attention, you'll see really sick of this sentimental separation. We see him literally liquified himself at the measure as the song progresses (you should also know his mother was an artist herself and put her career before her son's well-being. He suffered a lot from it). When he looks at the camera, he addresses the person portrayed in the song. It's troubling ... Have a nice day.

Well, Lara herself in some interview said that she believes language doesn't matter, that if the singer is honest with you giving the emotion, you'll get it without knowing words. I agree you can deffinetly feel it hurts without knowing the text, but the problem is that you can be "sick", ill, hurt, mad in so many ways. Knowing the story you can appreciate each her move and intonation. Next time, when you won't be busy with reading😉... Pardon for a long comment❤️

So happy you got to experience this with the beautifull haunting lyrics. And you're right, it's fascinating how differently we experience things. Some experience best through audio (like Angie), some through visuals, some by feel etc. But regardless I'd say that the experience of this song is strengthened greatly by knowing the story being sung. Even if only listening to it afterwards. The same goes for 'Caruso' from the same concert. Beautiful song AND lyrics.

Yesterday in France, a Syrian refugee armed with a knife sowed terror in a park on the shores of Lake Annecy by stabbing six people, including four children aged 22 to 36 months. This is happening more and more often. Today I see this video and I tell myself that the emotion it gives off could be used to point out this kind of barbarity in a song (Rather than heartache as we see too often). This would fit perfectly with this stage performance.

Yes, I know about this. The video has been removed on most of social media and there are other obscenities allowed to be shown but not this one. They don't want people to know about this. The worst part about that video is majority of the MEN RAN AWAY instead of taking care of business and being a HERO. They LEFT women and children to DIE. This is why they must remove sacred masculine from the male archetype, so they are cowards and will not fight back. A song about this would be a very emotionally triggering story, but I agree with you, not to celebrate, to anguish in the loss of a broken society.
@Grotesque..

@@reactiontalk Yes, not to celebrate of course, but to forget less quickly. The big problem of society is their Alzheimer's disease. I am French, always wanted to understand what the girl/boy was saying in the song since I was just a very little girl, and that was one of my first motivation learning the language. But what Angie says is very true too. The whole non-English speaking World has learnt to hear a lot of songs for decades in English, and more often without understanding what was said actually, but it never prevented from feeling the songs. Feelings are very important. So thank you both for the feelings on this old French song, actually not by Lara but by a man, Serge Lama, in the 70s. Je suis malade (song) The real story of the song When the song was written, Lara Fabian was only 3 years old. Je suis malade is a song by Serge Lama, released in 1973 as a single and on the album Je suis malade. Written by Serge Lama on a music composed by Alice Dona, the song became the most emblematic title of the repertoire of Serge Lama who regularly takes it on stage 3. History The song Je suis malade was inspired by a real heartbreak of Serge Lama, the story of a long secret relationship. In 1969, the singer met Michèle Potier in Chamonix. Love was a certainty, but neither of them was free: he had married Daisy Brun, his press agent, in 1968, and she was married and had a son. They love each other in secret for several years and promise to regain their freedom, but Michèle hesitates and finally flees him and settles in Morocco for professional reasons. Lama is desperate, he wants to put words on his pain without succeeding, until the day he confides in his friend Alice Dona: "this story hurts me, it makes me sick. Back home, at the piano, Alice Dona, composes in a few hours a melody [...], that very quickly, she makes the singer listen. It was a revelation and Serge Lama wrote almost the entire text in one go. He will say later "The 80% of the song I wrote in 20 minutes, it's almost a shame [...] it came out of my heart so much that I [...] immediately felt that this song had something that the others didn't have". However, nothing is done. His record company Philips does not believe in the song and to impose it Lama threatens to leave if he is refused to record it3. He wins his case and soon Je suis malade is released as a single. Unfortunately, the radio programmers prefer the B side, the lively and cheerful song Les P'tites Femmes de Pigalle which becomes a hit6. At every opportunity, however, Lama sings Je suis malade, on television, on stage [...], recognition will come, not (in this period), through him, but from a cover by Dalida very touched by the subject of the song and whose inspired and desperate interpretation will seduce the public. After that, Serge Lama's popularity was turned upside down and he definitely became a recognized and popular singer-songwriter4. Many years later, the artist confides: "An LP of Serge Lama at the time it was worth 4000-5000 albums [...] But after Les Ballons rougesNote 1 it is 1 million4." Recognition came for the creator of Je suis malade, in 1974, when one evening on the stage of the Olympia in Paris, Serge Lama completed the song by interpreting it without a microphone a cappella in front of an audience conquered by a triumph. Another happiness, the return of Michele, free and together, they give birth to a boy named Frederic in 1981 and marry ten years later8. Michèle died in 2016 at 71 years, victim of a stroke9. Her death gives the song another dimension, Lama who has not given up singing it on stage says: "Every night when this song comes, I know it is an obstacle that must be jumped [...], it usually takes me a minute to recover [...], this song deserves to be given everything".

I understand Angie's comments about feeling more on the first listen without the subtitles, I experience that sometimes. If I have to spend too much of my attention reading the lyrics then I am missing other important parts of the performance, and when it's a translation, you don't have the spoken word to help you out. After a couple more listens I'm able to widen my field of view, so to speak, and get a much more integrated experience and that's way better. It's tough because this is not a song with simple, inconsequential lyrics.

Actually, this song was written for a MAN... Serge Lama, the first interpreter. They just changed the pronouns to the feminine gender. And it's ALL DRAMA, no good ending. It's EUROPEAN, NOT AMERICAN. There doesn't NEED to be a good ending. Just like Canadian stuff. We ACCEPT the negatives along with the positives in life. Cal it fatalism... I just found your channel, but it's pretty cool. Cheers.. PS: I live in Quebec, Canada. I was here in the late 80s and early 90s and saw her from about 2 feet away a couple of times... L'original est mieux avec Serge Lama. Lara Fabian a la voix mais Serge Lama transmet le vécu de la chanson

Hi you two, Just rewatched your great reaction. Rollen's comments about Fabian/her character inspired me to suggest the following. This song's title has a double meaning: "I am my heart" or colloquially "I follow my heart." It's thematically similar to Malade. In Malade, Rollen finds power & "not a weak woman." I agree. But I think that's Fabian character choices coming through. For me, the final (17 second long) cry is of defiance. And I find hope in that. With this song I'm suggesting...well, the character is at a different point in life. And Fabian's performance knots my stomach. I think you two would find it incredible & beautiful.
