By the way the little girl in the video is his daughter, Willow. She appears in some of his other music videos as well (especially in the "Trilogy" which consists of: "Losing my mind", "Losing my life", and "Drugs"). I saw them in concert right before COVID (2/14/20), right before Derek Jones (the guitarist) passed away. One of my all time favorite bands.

I am a war veteran that survived suicide twice, when he says his demons simultaneous rage trust me, I feel that statement to my core. Ronnie has opened another lifeline too many to know they are not alone. I've dealt with doctors that should never try to treat war vets by the book psychology. When my demons rage, I first pick up a Stephen King book to take me away from where I'm at or what I'm going through. When I'm done reading it time for music.

There are 4 stages to this song... 1) seeking help (recognizing problem)(1st verse).. 2) not getting proper treatment (lack of care or acknowledgment)(2nd verse)... 3) results of non treatment (beast mode)(3rd verse).... and 4th stage, finding the calm to bring him back down to reality!

Great reaction! Ronnie Radke, the singer, practically IS the band and the creative head behind music and visuals. The video is not related to a video game, but Ronnie is a gamer on twitch, so I guess he took some inspiration from it. Ronnie suffers from depression, panic attacks, PTSD (after being in prison while different face groups there were at least with each other and someone was stabbed right beside him) and anger issues. The chorus is about the media painting him as a liar, cheater, etc, backing him in a corner until he snaps and gives them the monster they suspected him to be all along. Ronnie does some serious soul stripping in most of his songs and isn't afraid to talk about his weaknesses and mistakes. He's worked hard to become a better person after growing up in a broken family and being a drug addict at some point. I think you'll like the trilogy Losing My Mind, Losing My Life and Drugs. Maybe have the lyrics at hand, so you don't miss too much. Subbed! Greetings from Germany

@@KrisThroughGlass I believe that you are very well on point here. I was looking through the comments to see if anybody mentions the things that you did. The only thing that you might have missed there is the meaning of his daughter. He really loves her and cares about her a great bit (I have never heard him say it explicitly, but you can just see that in everything he does). I think that this video very nicely shows what she means to him - a shining light, a force in his life that brings him back from the darkness. Something that makes him strive to be a better person. And makes him sad when he fails to be. But as you have mentioned, I also believe that he has made great progress in his life and eventually, through those struggles, he always moves a bit closer to becoming the person he wants to be. „Even a fall on your face is a movement forward.“

This song cuts deep. Ronnie is a recovering heroin addict and he writes about his demons often (some of his best material if i may say so myself) Especially as someone that has those same demons I really feel his music. This song is all about that monster that still very much lives there below the surface (like i think with most heroin addicts, it never really "goes away" more like "goes dormant") There is a couple lines that give me chills every time: "Every single fuckin day I get closer to the grave, I am terrified. I fell asleep at the wheel again, crashed my car just to feel again" all circling back to the self destructive nature of addiction and then the "nothingness" after getting clean as a result of screwing up our brain chemistry so bad. I'm convinced Ronnie is a musical genius, in the way he expresses himself, the melodies he writes, and the themes he touches on. Massively underrated/underappreciated talent.

His brother was killed in a motorcycle accident and Ronnie himself followed his parents path and became a herion addict(he was fired from the band he helped form when he went to prison for 2 1/2 yrs. He got clean and has been clean ever since. He wrote songs the whole time he was in prison and formed Falling In Reverse while locked up. So he has been through alot and is trying to overcome it. I've always interpreted Ronnie's character in this as having some kind of dissociative illness, possibly with hallucinations. All the people he sees out on the street have glowing eyes, showing that he sees other people as monsters. When he changes into a monster himself, that's his other persona taking over, doing things so he doesn't have to, hurting everyone around him as a defense mechanism if you would. A song I think would interest you a lot is Family by Badflower. It's one of the closest descriptions of my own depression symptoms that I've ever heard. I play it when I need to feel like I'm not alone.

Love reaction videos like this! This song has resonated with me from the first time I heard it. I have battled depression my entire life, and during my youth it was more challenging because of the lack of support that I had. People in my life would say, "You don't go to Church, that's why you're sad" or "Oh, it can't be as bad as all that" or "Other people have it worse than you do." These comments basically made me feel like my depression was MY FAULT. And that's what I get from that line. "I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer, I'm a popular monster." I have all the reasons that people can "pin" my depression on without ever trying to help. Luckily, I did find the right treatment with the appropriate doctors that helped me. Depression is a life long disease, and the battle is real. Thank you for channels like this that help expose Mental Illness and make it a conversation worth having around artwork. Kudos!

The monster is a physical manifestation of the mental health issues he struggles with every day. The glowing eyes of the other people he sees is to show that this monster is not his alone. It is a monster that exists in many of us. A popular monster, one would say. Ronnie is an incredible musician with a story I believe you may find interesting. Definitely check out the Trilogy that has already been mentioned, as well as the songs of his that he chose to redo. Make sure to watch both versions of each - The Drug in Me is You/The Drug in Me is Reimagined and I'm Not a Vampire/I'm Not a Vampire Revamped. Zombified is his most recent gift to the world and is incredible as well. Coming Home is beautiful, so is Superhero. Just Like You is fun. All of the music is relatable in one way or the other. Ronnie drops his heart in his music and makes you feel everything. Listening to Losing My Life (song 2 of the trilogy) is emotionally exhausting and worth every second.

I understand this video so much I feel exactly like this in my life. We become something that our environment makes us but we don’t like it . It comes from a dark place but we know the light is inside somewhere and no one seems to care or help us. We have to struggle to fight our way out. I feel that the little girl and the light ( his daughter) is a sign of hope in the darkness of it all. A symbol of transformation. I was the same I didn’t have feelings for anyone or anything until my children taught me how to love. Even though, we remain holding close and embracing our dark side. The struggle teaches us how to respect and appreciate the good with the bad, the balance.

Ronnie himself explained the story behind the song. It's what happens when the public and the media turn on you. Yes he has had his own personal demons: drug addiction, going to prison and everything that happened to him in prison, his band that he created kicking him out. He had to crawl back through hell to get where he is and the media still called him a monster. This is what happens when he gets pushed into a corner and becomes the thing that they said he was. And the little girl at the end is his real daughter Willow. She is his saving grace, his one lifeline that will always be there.... NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

My take on this song, from the stand point of a DV and SA survivor, is that the "Popular Monster" is the mental illness that so many of us don't deal with because in his version of the story, his therapist just says "Hey, It's just a phase you're going through and it will pass". When he knows that it's NOT just a phase, it's NOT normal, not everyone goes through this, and he's pleading for answers and the help he needs to wake up each day and fight off the feeling that this is a never ending war between his good side and bad side in his mind! At least that's what I interpret. Im not a Dr, just a 51 yr old who has had hard times, as MANY, MANY, MANY of us have had! Thank you for your react videos! Is nice to see a Dr without his head in a book of explanations. A Dr that hears the voice and says "I'm here, I'm listening, and you don't have to do this alone! Im gonna get in your head with you and help you find the right path to follow and we aren't going to mask the issue with drugs, we're going to squash the issue and HEAL the cause.. Destroying the "Popular Monster" forever!!! 🥰💕

Mimicking the singers of the songs helps me get it out. And, I feel a ton better afterwards. I'm trying to master this one as I listen to it. Just now after about 50 play throughs, getting to where I can listen to it without tearing up. I've got the trauma from awful therapists all my life. I was about 5 seconds from taking my car into an upright under a highway bridge at 150mph to make it stop. Only to think of my little ones I'd be leaving to bring me back. He's literally scream FOR me. And, I've had a few songs do that for me like "Given Up" and "Across The Line" by Linkin Park or "Remember Everything" by FFDP. But, it took time and thought. This one took none of that. Had to pause it twice the first time just to absorb it. And, I didn't have the video then. I thought there were at least 2 if not 3 guys singing this song. Ronnie is a GD beast of a singer. And, instantly made a fan out of me.

This song speaks to me so much as a sufferer of CPTSD. This is how it feels inside and outside but the part with his daughter is how i feel about my son. Inside is so dark but no one sees it and my son is why I chose to get help along with just being tired and not being able to help myself anymore. I did all i could do when i developed cptsd and had no one but thanks to God, EMDR, Brainspotting and great therapist I am doing so much better yet I still have a ways to go. Anyome doing or thinking about doing emdr or brainspotting just know that is truly is challenging and takes a lot of determination. It helps but is so draining and sucks but SO WORTH IT!

I also connect to Ronnie’s songs as a sufferer of C-PTSD. I love how he remade “I’m not a vampire” to completely change the meaning of the song without actually changing the lyrics. I relate to it as I’m having to reevaluate my life and change my perspective of it to change the meaning of it. I’m going to be starting EMDR soon, heard and read so many good things about it :) I hope you’re doing well David, keep fighting that CPTSD battle! I really enjoyed this reaction video Tom, thanks for speaking about the mental health side of Ronnie’s music :D

@@mariamerigold I am doing great and EMDR is hard I will not lie but I promise you that it is rewarding!!!!! I am also proud how strong you are and how far you have made it!!!! It is a uphill battle but we got this. Therapy helps immensely you also get to see how your brain tries to fight against the therapy it is truly an amazing experience. One thing you must do is be willing to let go and also be 100% truthful. It is hard to do seeing how we have survived by doing the complete opposite but you will do great!

@@mariamerigold may I give you some advice, that you can discard if you like, it's just what has helped me - I'm a veteran of CPTSD and associated mental health issues. I've done all the psychotherapy there is to do. The only thing that has 'cured' or properly controls it all for me is either a fully carnivorous or ketogenic diet, and daily short burst of very intense exercise. It has changed my life. Hopefully the EMDR will work for you guys, but it simply didn't for me. The main reason is that the trauma that precipitates the CPTSD causes structural changes to the brain (left pre-frontal cortex, lining of the amygdala, etc, but it's really only what I described above that can fix that. The side effects are: improved body composition/weighloss, better hormonal control, healthier hair and nails, reversal of autoimmune diseases, reduced blood pressure, reversal of type 2 diabetes, clearer skin, longevity and looking younger. Prolonged water fasting will do the same thing, but make sure you supplement with enough sodium, potassium and magnesium. Another thing that can help is supplemental Magnesium Glycinate (not other forms of Magnesium), specifically glycinate as glycine plays a big role on neurotransmission control. Sorry for the long post.

man i love your reactions i 100% would have a guy like you as a therapist. this song was fantastic the girl is his real life daughter willow and she is credited the most for pulling him out of his depression so the symbolism behind her being there with him at the end after hes been a monster for so long and simply touching him showing him human contact amongst a room full of corpses and then opening the door to the light was one of the best metaphors for becoming a parent I've ever seen

My own personal interpretation of both the lyrics and the video itself: he's struggling with PTSD, depression and other mental illness. These illnesses are like demons inside him. When said "demons" take over, destruction follows in his wake. Him transforming into a werewolf is symbolism for those mental illnesses, making him lash out at the people around him. This song hits very close to home for me, because I can relate to every single aspect of it, from struggling with those mental illnesses to them making me lash out at the people around me and those that are closest to me.

My favorite line "Falling into love now with falling apart" is something I struggled with growing up with schizophrenia and depression. I can't say how many times I would ask if giving in was really such a bad thing. I have had some very destructive behavior as a child growing up with hallucinations and delusions that scared the hell out of me. The pain was too much. No one believed me, no one was willing to listen. There was something wrong with me mentally, and I didn't understand myself anymore than the people around me. A person can only handle so much before they give into their demons, and I nearly lost my life countless times because of it. I love this song. It is my childhood, teenhood, and a good portion of my adult life. I honestly wish this song was around while I was growing up, because if I shared this song with my parents at the time I was lost in my head, and said that's how I feel, maybe they would have listened to my cries for help sooner.

Ive lived this song and continue to to this day. my Favourite line in the song that it seemed you didnt catch is "Is another second closer to a blessing I wont take" indicating that every fibre of his being tells him to unalive himself but he fights against that drive and knows that he wont. and the second time he mentions it "every single fucking day I get closer to the grave" indicates that hes struggling and doesnt know how much longer he can fight the urge... i feel these lyrics so much. this is also just a great song...

From what I remember reading in an interview is that it's about someone actually suffering from depression, ptsd, etc and it's seen as a phase because unfortunately in todays world some mental disorders are seen as a personality trait that makes you unique, quirky, etc. So when you go and seek help you're being told it's just a phase, something you'll get over, and you're left to deal with it on your own to the point where you snap and are seen as the bad guy because of this underlying health issue that everyone ignores because it's become more of a fad amongst other people who say they have it in order to make themselves seem special. As someone who's survived a couple suicide attempts, you can really see who's hurting and who's using mental disorder to gain clout for themselves.

I don’t really go around talking about this but I used to have MAJOR depression. My dad died, I had really bad seizures, was harassed at school by kids and teachers, and I’m 50% blind. For my 18th birthday all I wanted was to meet Ronnie because he brought me out of that hole and I got to go to a show and meet him 4 days before my birthday. When I was talking to him I felt like he genuinely cared. At the end of the concert he dedicated this song to me and talking to him alone was incredible but when he did that I almost passed out lol.

Him transforming into the werewolf is basically symbolic to how I take it for when I get that way that we trust someone to help us and be there, but in the end we are left betrayed and hurt. So only thing left is the inner rage to come out or quote on quote monster. This symbolizes it perfectly.

the way i see the song and video is a lot of times we think of "popular monsters" as movie monsters like werewolves, vampires, esc. but in reality the monsters we face everyday is our selves and our thoughts. everyone has this inside them which is why i think the eyes of all the people in the alley lit up as a way to kind of show that we all go through these struggles to different degrees and we are not alone....but thats just my take on it i havent seen Ronnie say anything about it or if i did i dont remember it

a few of the key things about this.. he did some bad things in his past and went to prison over it. Some people still judge him in that and call him a monster in a lot of ways, he's a liar, a cheater and a non believer.. but he's famous so he's a popular monster. A lot of the song is about his mental health and feeling like nothing is helping and everyone is out to get him.. which is symbolized in everyone chasing him and even his psychologist calling on him.. the all gang up on him and force him to be the monster they claim him to be... his daughter is also his anchor to being good and she pulls him back from becoming the monster everyone makes him out to be. This is definitely one of my fave songs of theirs.

It's about his fight with his inner demons and mental health. When the people who he trusted to help him let him down he had no other choice. He let his inner monster out and only thing that was able to bring his humanity back was his daughter. Her standing in the door was maybe like she was his inner light and to follow her. I felt that. My son's are the same way with me. Feel this song on so many levels

saw a therapist several years ago, actually DID tell me it was a phase because I was in my mid 40s. "Well, if you're right and it IS a phase, its a phase thats lasted for over 30 years. Which you would know by now if you'd actually been listening to what I've told you over the last hour...". Never went back to that one, and can't afford it now. tried talking to family, Sis just shrugged and changed the subject, Dad just said "that's life", and Mom tried to tell me it's because I stopped going to church and stopped believing. "Mom, i was more depressed in church than I ever have been since I stopped", she doesn't ask anymore.

So glad you’re finally doing FIR. This song and video aren’t attached to any movie, tv show or game. The little girl is his daughter Willow who he has said is responsible for motivating him to get clean, sober and stay out of jail. She’s in a few of his other videos too. His other songs and videos are equally thought provoking and cinematic. The videos also tend to add even more nuance to the lyrics. For instance Popular Monster is about mental illness, but how we’re also our own worst enemy. Kinda like how if we were to tell our own life’s story we tend to paint ourselves as the villain in it. I hope you do some of his other music because I’m sure you’ll enjoy them as well.

I struggle with depression and PTSD along with Borderline Personality Disorder and when he says things like its the ''patterns of your life, the coping skills, etc'' he needs to realize that's what Ronnie is talking about when he says his Dr. and Therapist say its just a phase or stage. Its not the patterns or whatnot. Many of us are starting to believe its how we were designed. I've given in to my depression and accommodate my life so that I can continue life regardless of my depression. I've stopped smiling and stopped REALLY loving others but I'm still able to chuckle, have a good time, care for people and take care of myself all while still not caring about my own skin. I don't even care about physical pain anymore. It just stopped hurting.

I'm kinda new to Falling in Reverse myself but here's what resonated with me with this song: (This is my own interpretation, not necessarily what Ronnie intended. I know he heavily took inspiration from the movie The Joker with Joaquin Phoenix for it though.) The hardest thing with mental issues is asking for help. Most of us do it in subtle ways because we simply cannot bring ourselves to straight up say it. And if DO muster up the courage to open up, help, TRUE help, rarely comes. You'll notice that other people in the clip have the "glowing eyes" (The monster inside them). And they're people society doesn't give a shit about (prostitutes, the homeless, etc). So at this point, the song isn't a cry for help anymore. It's a HOWL for help. And it's only when he finally breaks down from NOT getting that help and becomes a threat to OTHERS that people take action (becoming an actual monster). But all along HE was not the monster. Just a normal guy who was TERRIFIED of his own demons and who society turned their back on who didn't get the help he desesperately needed. This song helped me SO MUCH in realizing just how bitter I am towards people around me. They're the ones who supposedly love me but I get NO support from them. I've been stuck in a loop because I was sort of waiting on them to understand me and realize that I needed ACTUAL help. Like I've fallen on the floor and can't get up. All I get are the dismissive and condescending "You can do it, I believe in you" from the best and the gaslighting "Urg, why are you on the floor? Don't you see it's dirty? Stop being lazy and get up." from the worst when what I actually need is someone to ACTUALLY, physically give me a hand and lift me up 'cause I can't do it on my own. Coming to terms with that bitterness really helped me realize that I needed to stop looking around for the passersby to help and go and get my own help. It's a GENIUS song that perfectly articulates this mixture of rage/despair/anguish we people with mental issues experience.
