There is a lot of truth to that movie scene, if you were a white boy/man walking through a black neighborhood just to take a short cut to get to where you were going, either home, school or work, a lot of the older people or non gang affiliated people in the neighborhood would be ok seeing you walk through the neighborhood, it’s the younger gang affiliated people that were always the problem, they would ask you why you are there, telling you that you are lost and then proceed to try to jump you, all because you were just walking through the neighborhood and wanted no problems with anyone. It happened to a lot of friends and some family members of mine, they would warn myself and others as kids to never walk through those certain neighborhoods because you might not walk out alive. You didn’t have to be fully white either, you just have to have light skin and be any other ethnicity other than black for them to fully mess with you. Then again they would also hate to see rival gang members who were also black walking around in their neighborhood or anyone black that they have not seen before. Most gangs in the inner cities kinda operate the same way too, if they don’t know who you are and haven’t seen you in their neighborhood before, they will step up to you and question/threaten you.
