about the song not being as loud/explosive as maybe expected: I don't think Stray Kids have talked about this directly but you could also interpret it as fitting in with the album theme. As in not being ordinary and subverting expectations, most people (especially those not as familiar with the group) associate Stray Kids with "noise music" which they also played on with the title of the last album, NOEASY. It's really smart to go away from that and do something more subtle this time around
@LaughingInTiny2 жыл бұрын
This. I don't think it's meant to be crazy. Instead of the play on ordinary meaning CRAZY I think it's like "your ordinary is that... my ordinary is this. YOU think my ordinary is weird, but that's because you are a drone and I'm an artist." Artists are kinda used to going through life knowing everyone thinks they are a little off. Once we embrace that though and just run with who we truly are some pretty amazing things happen. And not to go off on the whole 'Korean culture is suppressive' thing but as an artist growing up in a conservative family I imagine that message is not only more poignant where they are standing but also much more important for people to hear. Often I sort of feel like my responsibility as a creative is to hold space for the 'B side' personalities of normal people. Like if you're an accountant because it's the responsible choice or because your family expected it of you and you've always wanted to know what it's like to dress a bit crazy, or go to a music festival, or paint something... but it's super outside of your comfort zone... I can create that space for you and you don't even need to tell anyone if you don't want to. Some people are legitimately afraid of their creativity. I think as artists they aren't just saying HEY LOOK HOW COOL WE ARE, WE'RE IDOLS ...I think they put a lot of effort into saying Hey, look how cool being creative is. Doesn't this look like fun? It's totally ok to have fun too sometimes.

Yes! I see it this way as well. If i remember correctly, Hyunjin said that they wanted to show yet another different side of stray kids, more of a "cool" side of them with this comeback. I think it's pretty cool how they took the message of their album and title track and went in an "unusual" way, not the way people would expect them to do it, like you (op) said.

i feel like 3racha's process on music creation starts with a dot then gradually expanding that dot into a whole painting if that makes sense. It's like, they will use one sound or object as the core and then expand that core by cooking it up, combining, layering it with a more complex beats in the same range and then interchanging one another to create a more complex sounds but still within the core. I hope i'm making sense. And i love that they use actual sounds of things from the environment.

Also I think the abrupt ending is a creative choice that has a meaning because most of their songs on the album also ends abruptly..almost leaving you on a cliffhanger....also fun fact, the bird sound represents someone being a maniac/crazy(visually and sonically bird sounds used in movies and animation represent someone being crazy like the cuckoo bird)

i am so much enjoying your reactions to SKZ songs and all the analysis behind their work. Its opening a window to a better understanding of their music, which i find more and more inspiring. So from now on i am anticipating both, their music and your reactions to them! Maniac is etymologically a greek word, synonym to crazy but also towards the obsessed; it connects to the verb "μαινομαι" which means moving in an unexpected explosive way, carrying a destructive lets say energy. I find the song serving this concept, along with all Oddinary tracks (venom etc) They dont just go and burn the stage down, but they prefer to kind of stop and obsessively turn the screw more and more and more (chorus). By the way the choreo is doing exactly the same. And i have to say, cant avoid my professional perspective, the visuals are so abundantly creative. I loved the mirrored cities, so symbolic, the sense of suspended worlds, the camera turns in every hit of the chorus, its really awesome. SKZ are delivering something unique in my opinion. Thanks guys, you are really cool!
