The discussions on Trigger were pretty disappointing imo. The music went along with the lyrics for me. To me, there’s a feeling of extreme bitterness and sarcasm, but there’s also a lot of anger. It goes through stages of sadness and despair, then bitterness and indifference, and finally that burst of anger and emotion. Following the burst of emotion (that EDM part) it slows back down into sadness, and that goes along so well with an actual circle of grief. The whole idea of “shoot me and go” is pretty understandable. It’s in no way unheard of nor is it normalizing gun violence or anything (that discussion annoyed me the most). It can be easily just symbolic to how someone feels during a break up and not literal shooting, but it could also be an example of what someone who is really hurting might say in the moment. It’s a mixture of those two things (I believe). The song is dark because the lyrics and music are pretty emotional, but I feel such a connection to it (both of these songs) as well as many of their other songs. It feels like it completely describes what I’m going through whenever I listen to it which makes it so enjoyable (as well as the fact that they’re all so talented 💕). Anyway, that’s all. Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk.

I also thought that the discussion for trigger was very lacking.
@ReacttotheK5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. It was surprising when so many of the reactors heard Trigger as “a banger” and “happy.” I hear it as ominous when the chorus hits, and angry when the edm hits. There’s a lot that I feel they missed, but it’s understandable if they were distracted by the lyrics or overwhelmed by something else for their first listen. I think it took me around 10 listens before I was able to not be overwhelmed by everything happening. It’s one of my fav SHINee songs, so I may make an analysis video in the future to make up for the lack of in-depth commentary here.

Thank you for this comment! Totally agree, and tbh it was actually a bit stressful imagining the song as "happy" by any means for me when I've always felt it invokes such a clear sense of pain, desperation, and bitterness... I agree that they may have been overwhelmed because the song is pretty strange and complex, but relieved to see here that I'm not alone in feeling these things.
@dannyalc45565 жыл бұрын
Trigger is not supposed to be taken so literally, its obviously a metaphorical take on the english saying (used more in older generations) "would you just pull the trigger already." I cut this off a Google search: pull the trigger (on something) To make a final decision or commit to a certain course of action (about something). The song is more on being in a miserable and cornered situation where one has no other choice then to make a decision. I interpreted it as finally coming to the choice of cutting off or putting an end to a relationship. No interpretation is wrong, im just disappointed that the reactors chose to ignore the musical cues and focus on the literal aspect of a gun and going off. I hate gun violence too, i get it, but Trigger is not a song advocating to go shoot up a place.
@giuliaestrela81625 жыл бұрын
ikr?? i always so it as a metaphor of ending a relationship never as literal gun violence i was shocked that they interpreted this way lol
@val8755 жыл бұрын
@@giuliaestrela8162 gun violence isn't an issue in South Korea like it is here in the gun nation (United States). So we might see it as something negative but it was never intended that way not to mention trigger is an old song. It wasn't ever about gun violence and it's sad that it's such a regular occurrence now in the USA that it's all everyone jumps to first.
@maylinerosario38855 жыл бұрын
@@val875 true, but that was their mistake. Becuase at first with just the title they said "ah we listen to this all the time in R&B" to then take it as "of course it was banned!" When I listen to kpop and jrock I HAVE to be open minded the fact of how society is out there. They don't have the level of gun violence that we have in the US so obviously Americans with no open minds will think of mass shootings with the song, and that is wrong. The lacked of being open minded like a musician should

I have no idea how anyone could hear trigger as a happy song??? The whole thing is just a burst of emotions, anger, sadness, and the only "happy" parts are still bittersweet. There's nothing full sweet. It's like falling apart but desperately trying to grasp on the last positivity you have in a way. The end of a relationship and the way this toxic relationship is going they just can't see an end without it being the final end.

What I like about SHINee songs r that they r complex but in a good way. Their music evolve and don't stick on just "simple" beat. They might sound off at first but as u listen to it over and over again u find urself hooked into their songs. Not being bias but even if u're not into kpop u would enjoy their music and not to mention that their harmony r ALWAYS on point. ❤💎

For the first time I disagree with the opinions...and it's not because I'm a shawol. It's because in my opinion the music wasn't happy it was emotional and full of hurt. It's like being betrayed. The whole Odd album was just making nods at their early stuff and where they came from and they started in 2008. Also the part where Onew sings "lucifer." anyway I love shinee and they are the most adventurous people musically.

trigger and orgel are my all time favorite jams, simply because the music is so beautiful. I think most of them missed the point with Trigger, probably cuz they mostly tend to give comments during the song and maybe miss parts of the song. One of the main things being that when they say pull the trigger, they are talking about their relationship rather than a real gun. It's like a situation where you are in a relationship you are pretty much still committed to and in love, but you know your partner has 'moved on' and is 'over it'. The only reason you are together is that they are too guilty to really take that step. And you just want them to end it as you come to terms that it is over.
