Everybody needs an Iroh in their life. And if you don't have one, be one.
@DoremiFasolatido197919 күн бұрын
It's a nice thought...but Iroh is the way he is...because of what he went through. Not JUST losing his son...but his whole life before that. Iroh is extremely well-educated, and himself doesn't seem to have been subjected to the generational abuse that he and Ozai's father had probably been subjected to, that then somehow got turned exclusively against Ozai. Having said that...I'd like to see AI that is "developed" exclusively on Iroh and Iroh-adjacent ideas and information, and nothing else. And see how it goes. If it goes well enough...stick that thing on every computing device in existence by default.

What makes this show so god damn good is the writing. First of all, it's authentic. They talk like normal human beings. And secondly, they mixed the balance oh so well. Serious or heartbreaking scenes like this one are followed by humour like "You have a pretty strong scent". It's never over the top.

Zuko is liked by people not because he's morally perfect, but because he's not. Intentionally or not we've all made bad choices, made mistakes, we've all been selfish, hurting people around us, we aren't perfect, he represents everyone at some point in their lives. And Iroh represents the loving friends and family around us, that no matter how fucked up we are, they'll always be ready to support and forgive us. That's right, he's a perfect representation for everybody, representing through experience.

"I thought you would be furious with me" reminds me of what happened when he tried begging the Fire Lord for mercy, and what Zuko reflexively expected. I don't say "his father" because I (and many others) consider Iroh to be his real father, as Iroh shows here.

The scene also wonderfuly captures how traumatized Zuko is from his supposes "closest" family. The coldness, expectations and punishment he was drilled in from his suppsoed father. That all he could expect was more punishment. And iroh was the only one who actually taught him what it means to be loved by someone. The only one to belive in him, and try to guide him. Instead of expecting him to be perfect or a failure. And in this one scene he finally realizes this. And he owns up to the false expeciation he deperately chases, for a man who never wanted him to begin with. And betrayed his only real family he had. He truly needed that hug. And that realisation.

It was really only one guy, Jeremy Zuckerman. He is in the process of re-recording the score of the show with an orchestra, season one is out now. The original was done with the limited computer technology that was available at the time and very low budget, except for the finale, which was done with a live orchestra, but only because mr. Zuckerman paid for it if I'm correct.

This scene reminded me of a story my dad told me about his childhood once. When he was around 16 or 17, he stole his step dads motorcycle for a joy ride and ended up crashing it pretty badly. It wouldn't start so he had to walk it home. He said the entire walk, he was preparing himself for his step dad to beat his @$$ black and blue because that's what he'd grown to expect from his own dad and he believed his step dad would be the same. My bio grandpa was a selfish b@$+@rd of a man, prioritizing fancy new gadgets and liquors over feeding his own children. He would scream at his wife and children for any minor inconvenience to the point that my grandma decided it was better to be a divorced single mom of 4 in the 70s than stay married to him. So at that point in time, my father had never had a father figure who would willingly put him over his material possessions. The moment he got back home, his step dad took one look at him and bolted over to him yelling "Oh my god, what happened?" "I crashed the bike. I'm so sorry." "Who cares about that right now!? Are you ok? How badly hurt are you? Do you need to go to the hospital?" Sometimes, your real father is the one that loves you unconditionally even when you make a terrible mistake.

I love stories like this, even if it is sad that he had to go through the bad experiences first. My biological father was an absolute piece of filth and awfulness. My actual dad - the one who raised me - is the best man I know and am forever grateful to be raised by him.

Iroh always loved Zuko like a second son, even if Zuko didn't always express those feelings back, especially in the first season when his sole focus was getting back in his father's good graces by capturing the Avatar.

Ugh I love this scene! It hits hard every time. Zuko had this whole speech ready and fully expected to be reprimanded or turned away or otherwise called out for his betrayal and bad decisions. But Iroh was just like I don’t need to hear it. So much was said without being spoken in the way he grabbed him in the most lovingly aggressive way ever. Not only was he saying I forgive you, but I love you no matter what and in spite of your flaws. This is very much a happy tears scene.
